I was born in Europe before the end of WW2. As a child, I saw bombed out buildings reduced to rubble. I am thinking of my parents now, who lived through it and how it changed their lives. I remember rationing books-you could only buy a certain amount of dairy products, butter, etc. Yes, deep traumas come from these upheavals and last for generations. ☮️

As a Kurdish man from Iran, i was born right in the starting point of the 8 years of war between Iran and Iraq 40 yars ago. Let me clarify what the war is: Some rich politicians who know eachother very well, sitting in their comfortable palaces, dream of their ambitions, force young soldiers who even don't know eachother to kill eachother. And finally after a while they again shake their hands and have a nice meal together in front of cameras while parents of young soldiers still suffering from their absence. STOP WAR PLEASE

I am born in the 80s and generally we don’t see our peers in Germany like that. But we blame a lot of the older generations for the continued racism and xenophobia and religious extremism that exist today. I think younger generations realize we are not so different. Unfortunately Putin and his older supporters have sold out the younger generations for some fantasy of the USSR one that no younger person in Russia wants or dreams of rather they wanted to be proud of being Russian while being considered European and hold many of the same values and wanting to be able to look forward to living standards and lives parallel to their western counterparts. Unfortunately that will be the complete opposite of that and they should blame their elders.

Mr. Harari is interviewed in this video. He speaks to champion democracy (Ukraine) and decry tyranny/authoritarianism (Russia). However, I have ALSO listened and watched Mr. Harari speaking to the WEF (World Economic Forum) and serving as an advisor to Klaus Schwab who is the president of WEF. When Mr. Harari is speaking in his capacity as a member of the WEF, he strongly supports tyranny/authoritarianism as personified by the WEF elites (perched at the top of humanity) rather than democratic nations (whom he must see as the serfs of the world who will own nothing and be happy). So my question to Mr. Harari is: Who is the real Yuval Noah Harari...the man speaking in this interview with TED? or the one speaking to the WEF at their annual meetings? I would like to know please.

It might have been a cruel act in history but I'm happy that I was born in Finland and not in Russia. When germany stated that they will increase their military I felt a sense of increased security because I have always lived in a small sense of fear what the Russian leadership will do next(since I was a child the russian military has reminded us that they are there by flying military planes into our airspace or something similar, thus reminding our people that "fear us"). I do know that most of the russian people do not agree with their leadership atleast the ones I know but they don't seem to be able to gain any power without getting in worst cases killed. Everything my grandparents told me about Russia has proven to be true, so I have never blamed german people for what happened same as I have never blamed the russian people. We just need to create a world were the few in power can ruin everyone elses lives, yes we need someone to lead but the voices of the people should always be stronger than the voice of a small group :D But germans could start to speak english in games, like eng ain't my mothertongue either but...

Then the victors of a war writes the history and the propaganda was massive. Was the outcome really the best possible for the humans and did the outcome save lives, I don't know but it made "peace". I only know it saved a lot of jews and killed a lot of eastern europeans. From what I have seen from the victors of WW2 I sometimes think "Would the world have been a better place if the other side would have won". USA is bullying every country with fossile fuels(when norway found oil the first joke was "Soon USA will find weapons of mass destruction in Norway", Russia keeps "I don't know what to call it", China is what it is, UK sits like a little kid behind daddy's(USA) back and fcks everyone off. Europe excluding UK tried to better itself, Japan is more conserned about the next bright color in pokemon than wars. All the loosing parts became better while the victors only becomes worse and worse. Russia could have become a great nation, communism is one of the best government types if the ones in charge would follow the rules. USA are lost, its ruled by capitalism and everything is about money and 1 being better than the other person. USA makes life into a competition spreading their "¤%#¤" everywhere when we should try to find a way together. Europe has a chance if we just focus on following the rules we set up in EU(I know Finland follows em like word for word while some just see em as guidelines that you can follow if you want). So my point is that Germans has nothing to be ashamed of cause they have improved while the ones still running the WW2 propaganda only managed to become worse.

I agree with 112deeps that the difference is not healthcare. The US actually spends a huge proportion of GDP on healthcare although it is in the private sector. I guess (but have not checked) that the higher spending compared with the US would be social benefits or perhaps infrastructure. Whatever the cause, Europe and the UK will have to make some difficult choices. Harari is not criticising Germany for raising defence spending - he says it is reasonable - but it is tragic that the invasion will push countries into a logical but negative increase in spending. A relatively peaceful world and productive use of resources benefits from a stable international system based on law, rather than on a world governed by power relations alone, which means that only military strength counts.

As long as he cites his sources, and presents logical arguments that are also backed up by the shreds of evidence from his sources, it doesn't matter whether he's a Christian, a Muslim like me, an agnostic, atheist, or whatever. Einstein was a deist. Newton was an Arian (a heresy branch of Christianity). Al-Khawarizmi was a muslim. And these people's insights and discoveries built our civilization. We, as a country, have fallen into a hole on the road to Evolution. It's scary and painful for me to realize this. Even after 30 years since 1989, when we got rid of a mad communist power-hunger leader, I still feel the horror and threat of Russian tanks entering my country, to "free" us. We do not want Russians to enter any country, any more. Enough. Slava Ukraine.

I am a proud Ukrainian, I am staying in Ukraine, and I pray for Ukraine. But I understand that we mustn't deceive ourselves and not fall for media manipulations, there may be a confrontation between the two nuclear powers (and it never ended), America and russia. And always they instigate wars in different territories. And now, unfortunately, the turn has come to us. Therefore, we are now like a tiny coin between a rock and a heavy hammer. No matter how patriotism and love for my land play in me, I realize that we are just cannon meat. The war hasn't really started yet, it's just a warm-up. Europe has reported that they are ready to accept 5-7 million refugees. This suggests that EU has suspected the extent of this bloody mess. Our warriors and simple civilians keep dying here, while EU keeps sending humanitarian aid and sympathize.

All neighboring countries provide aid, weapons and put tremendous pressures on Russia. I am from Romania ...we welcome all Ukrainian refugees that come to our borders, there are people opening their houses, other bring free food and drinks and arrange transport. Hotels and pensions are now opened to Ukrainians for free. Along with all other 8 countries we supported the immediate ascension to EU member state for UKR, MD and GZ. But we are frightened to go beyond that ...We have an exit to the Black Sea too where it is full of Russian ships. The Russian Army is now In Odessa (300 km away from Romania)and then who knows where it stops...If we get involved more than aid/sanctions and weapons who can guarantee that we won't be leveled? NATO decisions would never ever involve us to begin with...It is US who will call the shots most likely and we would execute.I understand that this is a nightmare scenario that broke peace in Europe and trust when I say that I sympathize greatly and I wish the war be forever gone. I know from history the tentacles of the Bolshevic KGB state did not die in 1991 (but just went in a 30 year "liberal" travesti).
