The Virgin Mary's Struggles

Ойын-сауық

If we want to be holy, the Virgin Mary should have an integral role in our spiritual life; but sometimes, perhaps, you might think you cannot relate to the Blessed Mother because she was immaculately conceived and didn’t have to struggle with sin as we do. In this video, Fr. Mike shares how even though Mary did not struggle with sin, she still had her own unique struggle that we can relate to when we are seeking holiness.

A protestant pastor has persuaded my mom to get rid of Mama Mary's and Jesus' paintings and Pope John Paul 2's pictures in our house. She also made me play with her rosary because she was believing the protestant views from the pastor that the rosary and the paintings are unbiblical and wrong. I was a child back then... And so i broke her rosary and she just put the broken rosary in the drawer of our room. When she woke up at 5 am the next day, Mama Mary appeared to her shining with a very bright light floating at the side of our bed. She did not speak to my mom but her gaze was telling my mom to look in front of her.. So she looked straight and then she saw Jesus standing just in front of our bed. She did not look at Mary anymore because she was transfixed in the eyes of Jesus. My mom hugged me while looking at Jesus because she thought she is going to die that time as she can no longer feel her body and flesh.. She told me that it lasted for a few minutes. During that time, she was continuously looking at Jesus' eyes while telling Him that "please Lord, don't take me yet. My son is still very young." Jesus did not answer but is just looking at her. My mom told me that you can never stop looking at the eyes of Jesus as it is so full of love and goodness. Then suddenly, Mary and Jesus just vanished in a blink of an eye.. When she was looking at Jesus, she was also trying to wake my Dad.. She was constantly saying to him to wake up as Mary and Jesus are in our room but my dad and I are very much asleep during the apparition and could not wake up despite her calling to wake up. That day my mom put back all our pictures and painting of Pope John, Mama Mary and Jesus back in the corners of our house. She was trying to find the rosary I broke in the drawer but she can no longer find it. It just can't be found anymore. She even thought that maybe Mary and Jesus took it with them. My mom became a devout Catholic again after the apparition.. This happened in the 90s in our hometown in the Philippines. I was like 6 years old then. Now I'm 31 and my mom is 61. Lastly, she told me that right after the apparition, she can smell a very sweet fragrance of flowers in our room that lasted for 3 months that only she can smell. My dad and I could not smell the scent. Until now, my mom prays the rosary everyday and sometimes, Mama Mary, Jesus and the Saints like St. Threse and St. Patrick visit her in her dreams. There was no more apparition but for my mom, what happened was still very clear in her head and she cannot forget the face and eyes of Jesus.. God bless us all...

The Catholic view on Mary was always one of my favorite things about it, compared to other Christian denominations. It's comforting, especially in the way you explained it Fr. Mike: The idea that she knows what it's like to struggle, to wander, to walk a lonely road, but to always, no matter what, put her faith and trust in God, I see her as a role model (Same with saints in general tbh, but especially Mary). I have friends who are Protestant who've asked "why do Catholics worship Mary? That doesn't seem right" and this video is a perfect way of explaining our devotion to her. I also remember something Pope Francis said in one of his Angelus speeches, where he talked about the wedding at Cana, and how Mary told the other people at the wedding "Do whatever He tells you" and how Jesus then did his first miracle. The Pope said something about how that phrase "Do whatever He tells you" is really the foundation of Christian life: we do what Jesus, and God, tell us to do. We are the guests at the wedding, and Mary is there telling us to follow Him wherever He goes. Anyway, I hope that ramble made sense, I'm still trying to relearn Catholicism, it's been almost 10 years since I was a practicing Catholic and I just decided to come back a few weeks ago

It's strange because even Martin Luther loved Mary, yet Lutherans today don't think at all about her. Nice post man. God bless you, and may the Holy Spirit guide your journey while our mother dispenses all the graces you need to perserver til the end. I was raised Roman Catholic, but I don’t know if I’ll find a home within the Catholic Church, as my spiritual experiences in life might make it too broad of a viewpoint to fit within the narrow confines that accepting original sin and carrying that guilt and state of mind around with me. Jesus obeyed the commandments perfectly because he was perfect. The bible also tells us to imitate Christ in all ways (1 Corinthians 11). So by honoring his mother we are doing what the bible says. Do you really believe God would not bestow great honor on the woman he choose to come into this world through? Now why do many protestants dishonor his mother Mary? No Bible-Christian believer would ever dishonor Mary or any of the Apostles. But she is not to be worshiped nor are any of the Apostles. Only the Father, Son and Holy Spirit can hear our prayers. Suggesting otherwise elevates Mary and the Apostles to deity, which is idolatry. Only God is to be worshiped and only Jesus is our mediator. Scripture is very clear about this.

  • @matthewr1900

Because scripture tells us that we are to pay to God ALONE and that Jesus is the one and only mediator. If we were supposed to pray to deceased people, Jesus and His Apostles would have very clear about something as important as prayer. Scripture offers absolutely no evidence that deceased people can hear us. If you can offer scriptural evidence that dead people can hear and/or answer our prayers, I'd be pleased to learn where this might be.

So when I read the title of this video I started screaming yes, YES, yes yes yes, yeees finally, I’m sooo excited!❤️❤️❤️❤️

  • @itsangelperin

The Miserable Man The Miserable Man Its not that Christ was a hard child to raise. It’s that the Virgin Mary knew that her Son would suffer, thus leading to Mary’s individual suffering (consider the Seven Sorrows) “And Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary his mother: Behold this child is set for the fall and for the resurrection of many in Israel, and for a sign which shall be contradicted; And thy own soul a sword shall pierce, that out of many hearts thoughts may be revealed." - Luke II, 34-35. So yes, i guarantee it was difficult for the Virgin Mary to put up with these circumstances considering the fact that she loved Jesus more than anything. And knowing/witnessing her only Son suffer was indeed a hardship on her part. But through it all, she did what the Lord willed, for she declared herself to be the Handmaid of the Lord.

Da Lime; Welcome home to the full gospel. Mary said Fiat Yes in Latin for all of humanity. You don't have to change to love Mary; loving her will change you! How do we know God. We have to lift our soul to the Lord; we have to respond to him. How by prayer.Pray without ceasing. Do you have a rosary.Daily rosary is the weapon that will be used to destroy the demons and devil.Online read about the history of the rosary. I will give a link to Father Donald Calloway on how satan had tried since the 12th century to keep the rosary a gift given to catholics through St.Dominic from the faithful. There are also Divine Mysteries that Mary will share with you by a devotion call the 7 Sorrows of Mary. All online. There's incentives for the faithful with these particular devotions. For example the rosary.Mary promises 15 promises with a daily rosary recited. Many people even strangers came up to me and said your children are very well behaved. For parents that is a gift because of the rosary. It's what is called a signal grace. The rosary takes 15 minutes daily; 1% of 24 hours. What does Geico Insurance say in it's commercials.15 minutes can save you 15%.lol. kzread.info/dash/bejne/c3ea2dClm9fcmZc.html www.themostholyrosary.com/appendix1.htm

As a leader in St. Paul Street Evangelization, I got questions about Our Blessed Mother being without sin many times. Many asked, how can she be without sin when the Bible says "All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God" Rom 3:23. So I answered them, "So, I have an autistic son who does not understand "reason". Do you think babies have sinned? Let's look at Mary. What was in the Ark of the Covenant in the OT? (There were three things - the manna that fed the Israelites during the Exodus. Also called the "Bread from Heaven". The Ten Commandments - from Moses after speaking with God - so it could be called "The Word of God" and the staff from Aaron that started to sprout. Symbolizing the high priesthood of Aaron, the brother of Moses. So, what else could we call the "Word of God" the "Bread from Heaven" and the "High Priest" - most would say, well, Jesus!!! Yes, Jesus was in the Ark. Colossians 1:16 tell us that ALL things were created through Him. (Jesus). Now let's go to 2 Samuel chapter 6 where Uzzah was carrying the Ark and slipped and put his hand on the Ark to steady it. He died. But why did he die? Nothing unclean could touch the Ark. Ever. The Ark had God and Uzzah was tainted with sin and thus died. Now lets' go to Luke's Gospel where Mary is told she is to become the Mother of God. She is to carry that same Word of God, that same Bread from Heaven and that same High Priest. How could she possibly have sin on her soul??? She would have died immediately just as Uzzah did. Thus God saved her from sin so she could have His Son.

This is what I came for; however, and very respectfully, I'll respond by suggesting that Jesus did just the opposite. By your rationale no unclean person, no sinful person, could ever touch him. Jesus did the opposite of what the temple did. You had to be ritually clean to go to the temple, to avoid defiling yet, but Jesus made clean that which was defiled. I don't see why Mary would have to be without sin to carry the baby Jesus.

I never knew this. So Mary was born without sin, and lived her life without sin? Why would anyone envy that. That had to be incredibly difficult. Just thinking about watching your child go thru what Jesus went thru. I can't imagine the strength it took to continue to have faith and not grow extremely angry. I don't k ow if I could do that. Even if it were for the greater good, to see your child tortured and not sin in some way, that is nothing to be jealous of. It's something to aspire too, but not to envy. Many of us think it's hard to sin and that is in every day situations, no where near the magnitude of her life, or of Jesus. I'm going to delve farther into this, it's so interesting. Mary was not born without sin. The "Roman" Catholic Church (..not the true Catholic Church) started this false doctrine during the reign of Pope Gregory. It was then accelerated in the 1800's. There is absolutely NO scriptural support for this false idolatrous doctrine, as Mary herself indicated God was HER savior. Jesus will not share His glory with anyone, nor should He.

When I was younger (maybe 10 or 11) I remember bursting into tears one Sunday when my psr class was doing the stations of the cross because the part where Mary was crying at Jesus's feet made me so unbearably sad. I have a soft spot for Mary because I viewed her as my Mama when my actual mom didn't seem to care about me. However, I've always had shaky feelings for God. I just couldn't get close to him like I could to Mary. He seems so far above me and a little cold at times. When I realized I was attracted to girls I hated myself for being an unforgivable sin so much that it felt too impossible to create a relationship with God. The immense release I experienced when I told myself that it was ok to think that way and act that way was blissful. I mean, it did leave my relationship with God in disrepair but I couldn't deny myself freedom anymore. Now I'm 17, and going through a confirmation class that I hate. I haven't talked to God or Mary for so long. I kind of miss it.

@@mikelao8434 I'm sorry to be such a Debbie downer! I want to preface that the catholic religion is absolutely beautiful, some of the people were kind of mean though. But that's not really the fault of the catholic faith. My church was pretty small, the biggest class in psr that year was the confirmation class or about 8 kids. The teacher of the confirmation class was also the psr director. She owns a daycare and primarily deals with younger children so I think she had trouble dealing with a bigger class and she tended to treat our class as she would a preschool class. This made the students uninterested and bored and a bit restless. However, even when there was an opportunity for discussion or for learning something the kids never seemed to care. They were just bored the entire way through. Many said they were doing it just to appease their parents. I also went through with confirmation even though I wasn't ready because I was scared to say no to my parents and to the church. My little sister wasn't afraid though, she chose not to get confirmed because she wasn't ready and people in church treated her differently because of it. Not all people, but enough to be discouraging. I wish there wasn't such a pressure to get confirmed so quickly. I wasn't ready, I still wouldn't be ready. Did you get confirmed? Did you have a good experience? Also, thanks for chatting with me 😊

ToTheEnd H Sure! It’s my pleasure chatting with you. It’s alright it’s no problem. It sounds like that instructor had her hands full unfortunately, if we somehow could get more people to step up and pitch in, unveil and work on polishing some talents life would be more purposeful. I did get confirmed a few years ago, at first I declined the Sacraments for a year or two because I felt unworthy & as if I was much too new to Catholicism as majestically awesome as It is. Out of a kind request of my loving GodParents(I just couldn’t say no to them I just couldn’t). R.C.i.A. was a blast, I couldn’t get enough of it; however there were a handful of deviants who fiddled in class(they failed). It was a lot of fun! for the first time in my life I was able to trust anyone, I volunteered to read very often, so much that a good amount of people stepped up to return the favour, I guess you could say I had a contagious confidence. I even lead a fundraiser for our graduation party plus we had enough tickets to Six Flags for all our graduates. I love our class I wish we could do it all again. In some ways I regret not joining sooner then again it was awesome. I do have my difficulties & I do have struggles with keeping my faith. I still felt that I was unworthy of the Sacraments after the fact that I was baptised & confirmed, which made the devil desperate & angry; there were times I thought it was a mistake; but a very good Pastor insisted I(i’m sure that goes for everyone) was made for greatness and not for despair nor mediocrity. I’m glad I listened to him; he & the Church is happy to have me. I just wish to share the joy with anyone who is willing to travel that narrow difficult road to glory. You know I struggled with chastity for a number of years even after my baptism, so I pray the rosary daily(it took a lot of practice) and I’ve shifted my focus on the lives of the Saints via books(I started with movies lol!). It took quite some time but everyone is glad I am here. Do you have a favourite Saint? Jes_s Mary & Joseph Loves you!

Amazing as you always say, God is never late. I really needed to hear this today. I’ve already cried through mass but I needed to hear this too. Thank you and God bless you. Father Mike.

Hi i'm a christian from another sect. I have a question about Catholicism, If Mary was sinless doesn't that contradict the idea of Jesus being the only sinless human to ever live? and was she sinless even after giving birth to Jesus? did she need a savior ?

Hi! I’m a protestant and I was wondering what the roman catholic church teaches about mary’s salvation. Did she need Jesus to save her because she did not sin?

She needed a savior to save her from original sin. Her immaculate conception relies on the merits of Christ's saving act by His death and ressurection

He did save Her before Her conception in Her mother's womb because God isn't in time like we are in time. Like someone about to walk into a deep pit Jesus saved Her "before She walked accidently into the pit". Some could be saved after they "fell into the pit" but He spared His Mom from that "pit" that stain of Original sin".

By the future merits of her son, our Lord Jesus Christ, She was given at every moment of her life all the grace to lead a perfect life. That's why we call Her Full of Grace. She is saved ("My spirit rejoices in God My Savior") but in a different way than the rest of humanity.
