Totally understand your decision. We went through a medical emergency where the vets said the same to me. Through sheer determination by my youngest son, myself and our beloved horse, McGee, we got him through the trauma. Sometimes you just have to trust your gut. You are in my prayers always. I love how his horse family sticks near by. Shows us how strong herd dynamics can be.

Good for you ! He wasn’t ready . We know our horses better than any stranger … no matter how educated they are . Vets aren’t GOD , and given the chance most of them will heal . We just healed up a major flesh wound , on a yearling colt . All the way to the bone , bone damage . Missed tendons , praise God . He barely has a scar . Memorial Day injury , October was the last bandage change. It can be done with patience and perseverance ! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

OMG, such a gorgeous boy! I got my first horse at age 12, his name was Mr. Treasure Tone, full brother to Michael Landon’s pinto on Bonanza! He too had a trailer accident and severed tendons in his front right fetlock and corona. We too decided not to put him down and he fully recovered enough to ride. However his fetlock though healed would never bend again. It didn’t slow him down one bit, not even a limp. God bless you for being ruled by your heart.🙏♥️💕🌈🌹🌺

He's calm and easy to handle, unlike many injured horses that make injuries worse because they are fighting the helpers or panic. I like his herd, coming to visit the shut-in and cheer him up.

Prayers for PDR . I have been through 3 years of receiving from injuries . Cracked pelvis in 2019 , bad jobsite accident w/ a compound fracture of my left foot 2020 & ankle replacement in 2021 . I am sitting here 2 wks post Op from surgery to clean up arthritic material & scar tissue . Very lucky to have a left foot . Dr was very Pleased w/ surgery. Was optimistic about more ROM in the ankle . #strongwillsurvive

Thank you so much for sharing what happened to Czar. I sobbed thru the whole thing. I am just beyond happy that you did not follow the vets. I had a friend whose horse had a similar accident only it involved a wreck attached to a wagon. It was awful and there WAS blood and a large gash. She and her husband went to work and saved their horse. Czar is going to be fine. Maybe not for barrels but fine nonetheless. I love him so much and my prayers are for him. Please give him a treat for me. 🥰

I don’t blame you for not putting him down. He has another job…the breeding shed. If you can keep him half way sound that will be the miracle. If he wasn’t putting weight on it I would be less optimistic. Sometimes you just have to put it in God’s hands. I will be sending prayers across the miles and will be picking some brains from KY to FL …NY to CA It never hurts. Y’all mean the world to me and your stock. PS.. I have found the black duct tape is stronger thank the silver. You may need to buy duck tape by the case. Just a little humor to lighten the mood.💋❤️🐾🐾🐎🐂

Absolutely the right decision not to put him down - others may disagree, but a lot of owners are driven by veterinary costs - but even some fractures can be healed, and a precious life saved. Okay, his performance days in an arena are probably behind him, but he can still perform passing on his incredible genes.. So pleasing that you kept the faith, true love will always win..

I'm reminded of the Movie Seabiscuit! Full of letting things heal when animals were supposed to be put down! As an herbalist I would look to comfrey or more importantly Arnica externally. Arnica is spacific for ligaments/ tendons. I think we get impatient and want quick fixes but clearly he wants to live. Let him! PVC pipe is an amazing splint isn't it?? Lol Love that you all are really just letting him decide! Prayers up for all of you!!

Wow what a great effort and love you all gave this beautiful boy! Had a really well bred mare years ago the owner was going to put her down as she had a torn suspensory tendon. I asked if he'd give her to me he did. I doctored her, loved on her and alot of care for 9 months eventually turned her out on pasture. Nature took its coarse, she ended up pasture bred and threw me a beautiful black and white paint filly! I didn't listen to the vets either to put her down, takes faith and these horses have alot of heart! My mare was foundation bred, Blue Valentine lines top and bottom. Her filly had Texas bred Johnny Dial lines on her sire side. Great horses! Saw the video from yesterday and Czar looked great.!

Prayers ❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️ The upcoming x-rays will be interesting to see. I’m thankful you gave him a little time to heal, he is such a great horse. Yes, a three legged horse cannot be used for anything except stud, which is why I think vets recommend euthanasia so quickly. But he is a valuable one…for his confirmation, his color, his mind and especially his temperament. Some colts out of him will be priceless. I’m so sorry this has happened to him, but I’m so happy you’re giving him a chance to heal. It will be a long, slow process, but I sincerely wish him and you the best. Thanks for sharing. ❤❤❤

He has the great desire to stay here, thank goodness. Like many of us after an injury his pleasures may focus more on food. Don't let him get too heavy, horse injuries have a tendency to get inflamed when they're overweight. But what makes him happy is important I realize. He's got a good temperament and what a fine horse he is. I sure hope he heals up enough to not feel the pain. That would be what I hope for. So far, so good. You really love him and he knows it. Hope he lives comfortably from here on out. Best wishes to him 🥰👍

I meant that things like this seem to happen on holidays when there are no vets open !

I sincerly hope Czar is healing, he is a beautiful boy and should have many more year's ahead of him to enjoy running with his mare's.

I fell in love with Czar the first time I saw him❤️ and I cried a little watching this post😢 my heart hurts for Czar, you and Henson. But I’m so glad you followed what your heart and soul felt was best for him instead of what the vets said. He might not be a performance horse but he will be able to make beautiful sweet tempered babies. He is still so full of life and I love how Dibs and his friends stay close. They sure came running when he called to them. Sending lots of prayers and love for Czar, you and Henson. Please keep us updated.

Made me cry. I would have totally made the same decision and I’ve worked in veterinary medicine as a technician for 24 years. Doctors can be wrong and miracles do happen. I’ve seen it. Y’all hold on to that faith in our mighty father. He will be healed. ✝️🙏🏼❤️

I sure will keep praying. I am glad you did not put him down. Ranch horses are so hardy. He will heal up he just needs time.

So tough to handle a joint injury, especially the hock, but certainly worth a try. Czar is truly worth that effort. Could be a good thing that he puts some weight on it at times. If he was in a sling it could work against him mentally and physically. Thank you for sharing his story. Not an easy thing to do. Prayers always.

I don't like slings, either. In my 60+ years, I've seen some remarkable recoveries from splinted leg injuries, most were also recommended by a vet to be put down. Back in the 70's, Dad's stud horse, Pilot, fell down an embankment by the Cheyenne river in western SoDak. He had a really bad pastern fracture. After much discussion, it was decided that he'd try to be saved. It took a long time to heal, but he did and went on to sire many more foals. Dad never rode him again, but he was super gentle for a stud, and us kids used to put the little cousins on him and lead them around.

I saw your video is awesome beautiful horse.

The wonders of duct or gorilla tape. Would be good story for whoever makes the tape!

Czar is such a sweet horse I have come to love Czar, Dibs ,Monster I would be vary saddend if you lost any of them Czar will prevail

Unfortunately the vets take the easy way out because of huge cost involved

Your Boy has a very long road of recovery to be able to come back from that type of injury. He may never be rideable again, but he'll still be a good breeding Stallion. You can Love on him as much as you can, that's always the best medicine.
