fifth mix It’s a theme song for all the characters and their growth, which is why they also played it in the finale. Elena and Stefan were dead inside in the pilot, but they felt alive in the finale. Jeremy was lost and a drug addict, but he ended up being a strong man who knew his place in the world. Caroline was weak and desperate, but in the finale she was strong and powerful. Damon was cruel but in the finale he was kind and loving. This song represents the development of all the characters, which happened to start with a love story between Stefan and Elena. However, in the finale they played it after Stefan and Elena said goodbye, because even though they were only friends and they fell in love with other people, that was okay. Life moves on and this shows that it’s totally fine to fall in live with multiple people in your life.

This song will always remain, in my heart, as the Vampire Diaries song. No other song can replace it. I watched the show with mixed feelings because my friend recommended it but man , the first episode with this ending and the song took my breath away.

I’ll never get over this show, it will always be my favourite. It helped me escape a lot of stuff, it drags you in and you feel like it’s real ❤️

To be fair, if she hadn't met them, she would have died with her parents after their car went off the bridge. Or Klaus would have (permanently) killed her.
