I actually love the comparison between Curry and Shaq. They're basically exact opposites. Shaq wasn't that hard a worker, to the point that he never even got good at shooting free throws, but he was undeniably the most physically dominant player ever. He was - literally - built different. But his work ethic wasn't there. Curry, on the other hand, is nothing special, physically. 6'2, shit ankles, small. He's never physically dominated the court in his life. And yet... his work ethic and genius has carried him past hundreds of physically better players, to dominate the court and change the very game through sheer effort and skill. Shaq was born for Basketball, while Curry earned his place.

I grew up immersed in Russell and Cousy and Chamberlain. We had season tickets to Wooden years UCLA. We got to watch Laker practices with Baylor, and West. We watched high school Kobe. Personally, I’ve never seen a more complete player or better shooter than Curry. His best point of comparison is his ability to raise his teammates’ play. It’s a part of his game he’ll never be able to change and something he had to overcome to reach goat mountain. Similarly I think efficiency is an underrated stat that we don’t properly track with accolades. Too often we see players get MVP while having HUGE usage ratings and middling efficiency. Efficiency is a benchmark for mastery of craft, and shouldn’t be overlooked in a discussion of greatest all time.

I understand the logic of counting NBA titles in comparing all-time greats, but I don't think enough is said about Curry being far and away the greatest shooter ever. Kids today simply may not understand that, for much of the history of the three-point line, the best shooters were catch-and-shoot specialists. Steve Kerr is a great example: He owns one of the best all-time three-point shooting percentages, and he'd wait on the wing or the corner, open and ready to shoot. Reggie Miller was basically the exception proving the rule, equally strong with or without the ball. But Curry takes it to a whole different level. He hits those same shots after running all around the court, trying to get open. There were whole stretches in this year's finals when Curry's defender would be face-guarding him 35 or more feet from the basket, not even looking at where the ball was. He also has the best handle of any all-time great shooter, allowing to get past the best defenders and score. And his shooting ability creates an unbelievable gravitational pull, creating endless opportunities for his teammates. For me, Curry's easily in the all-time top ten because he's the greatest shooter of all time, and not for a short span but going on fifteen years. He could easily finish his career with six titles and 4000 three pointers.

@@bndctgrnd8560 Yeah I think that if Curry wins two or three more championships and two more finals MVPs then at that point I'd put him over LeBron and Kobe. Not only that I think you would have to consider having the discussion of him overtaking Magic Johnson at the #3 spot and as the best point guard of all time. After all Just because you're at the top of a specific category doesn't mean you're necessarily the best. For instance if you look at LeBron and Jordan. LeBron has .711 points per minute played in the NBA and Jordan has .787 per a minute. LeBron has 52138 minutes played Jordan has 41010. That's 11,128 more minutes. LeBron has 37,062 points and Jordan has 32,292 which a difference of 4770 points. Jordan would have only had to play another 6,070 minutes to surpass LeBron and points and had Jordan played the same amount as him then hed pass LeBron by 3970 points Jordan would be the all time points later over Kareem. I know this seems like a tangent. But my point is to show that viewing somebody at the top of something doesn't mean that they were the best or most efficient at it Because you can have a freak specimen come along they can play for 30 years that has a 3-point percentage in field goal percentage 10% less than LeBron or Jordan or Kareem but would surpass and total points rebounds or assist and that doesn't make them the best and that why most hall of fame NBA players Not only don't see LeBron is the goat but not even in the top three. Hell you can even argue that Jordan isn't number one and instead it's Wilt. However I disagree I've got #1 Jordan #2 Kareem #3 Magic #4 Wilt #5 LeBron #6 Shaq #7 Kobe #8 Bird #9 Bill Russell #10 Chef Curry

Curry might be the best 3 point shooter of all time but that's only one part of offense. Outside of that his offense isn't anything top 10 great. He averages 24,3 ppg through his career alongside with 6,5 apg which are good numbers but not top 10. That combined with his average at best defense drops him out of top 10. Even outside of top 15. Curry's offensive numbers are a bit worse than Jerry West's but West played all defense-level D while Curry does not. Also West put up his better stats without 3 point line. I have noticed many "Curry is top 10!" lists/shouters after the Warriors won their latest championship. I have to say that it seems most of those people probably are 25 years old or younger and have not done their research before coming out with their pretty laughable lists. Youngsters think "basketball = 3 point shooting" and "better 3 point shooter = better player overall". When you get older/do your research you will realize that's not the case.

Steph curry is the ultimate version of Allen Iverson's effect on basketball culture as a whole. You know how even though AI never won a title, his place in basketball history is cemented based on his sheer skill, will, and relatability. In a land of giants, the fearless little guy stood tall and dominated. Not only did that appeal to every little kid of the 90's that saw him as their GOAT (me included) but he changed the very landscape of the league dynamic going forward. It became cool to be a scoring PG, while also being unapologetically true to yourself. Fast forward, and now Steph curry is a multiple time champion, MVP, all star, the greatest shooter ever, and undeniably a top 10 player. Yet, if you walked past him on the street, you might miss him. He goes against every conventional idea of being a dominant NBA player. In fact, his game went against all conventional wisdom, and ended up being a revolutionary staple of the status quo going forward. This is the peak of the AI influence

All other players in NBA history had at least TWO 0X among these 5 category levels. His triple double seasons were not even in his top 5 all-time accomplishments. Uninformed know-nothings are the ones who have saddled him with all that nonsense. In my 65 years of watching basketball he is still the greatest player I've ever seen.

Steph Curry has definitely made his way into the top 10. I mean. Look at the repertoire. After his 4th chip? And without a team of superstars like himself too? Yo he is definitely in the bottom half of the top 10 GOATS of the NBA right now. And what’s nuts is he still has a lot of the game to play so as you said he could very well climb that ladder. I say he wins two more chips and calls it a day. All he needs now is an Olympic gold medal. Which he woulda had already had he not gotten injured but I wouldn’t put it past him to get one in the next Olympics. And what’s even more insane is he didn’t even need one to get to the top 10 in the first place but the fact that we all know he can get one anyway? Just speaks on his skill and work ethic. He’s a phenomenal player, he’s changed the game with threes which impacts spcacing etc. He’s also the shooter of all time. Thing is people are way too high off his championship and love to blindly put him in the top 10. The current top 10 are the best of the best, and they have been undoubtedly great on both ends of the floor. One thing people always neglect is the IMPACT steph has - whether people say his shooting ruined the game and now that we see kids copying his far 3s, he has become a global icon and leader in the game of basketball - changing the 3 point and shooting as it is. Impact ties a huge part in where someone ranks.

It's not fair for the other players. So instead we put in hakeem (greatest defender of all time) and curry who is undisputedly the greatest shooter of all time.

Those who say Steph is "not special, physically" are just feeding their own dream that if they just practiced hard like Steph, they too could be NBA superstars. I'm sorry to break it to you boys, but Steph is a gifted athlete who has the special quality of the desire to be the best. He has eye-hand coordination that maybe one in a million have. He is a leaper; just because he doesn't appear to jump as high as the 6'6" guys he plays with night in and night out doesn't mean he can't jump. Watch some KZread clips of the guy dunking the basketball. There aren't a ton of 6'2" guys walking around who can dunk the basketball on fast breaks. Look at his ability to make quick decisions on a basketball court. The mental acuity needed to do that is pretty rare. Watch him play golf, or baseball. You get the picture. He is a truly gifted athlete who has worked harder than anyone any of us mere mortals know to hone his skills to be the best scoring machine the NBA has ever seen. If that doesn't put him in the top ten ever, I don't know what does.

He has undoubtedly and forever change the game of baseball. No one has successfully been able to guard Steph-no one-not KD, not LeBraun, no one. I very much doubt that MJ would have been able to stop him. Moreover, MJ did not have the competition that Steph face in today’s NBA. So, please, show a little respect to Steph-and, recognize.

Wade put Steph on Mt Rushmore. Ja Morant put him top 5. Iggy said Steph greatest PG. Remember, Wade was already a champion who then played with prime Lebron (on Mt Rushmore) and won more rings with him. He is putting Steph on Mt Rushmore with Lebron because he recognizes Steph is on that level. Magic is commonly considered on Mt Rushmore and people are starting to realize Steph is better than Magic. Steph is pretty much the GOAT offensively. Thinking Basketball did a vid on this. And he's a solid defender, despite the media narrative against this. Steph will eventually be in the GOAT conversation with most ppl, especially as advanced analytics continue to develop and are able to properly measure Steph's impact on his whole team's winning. I believe JimmyHighRoller did a vid showing that Steph has the highest % of added wins to his team than anyone in history. Lebron is #2, and MJ is #3. People will realize over time.

As much as I’d love to see that, no way in hell is that happening. I’ll cry tears of joy if he can win 1 more chip. He’s a phenomenal player, but he’s not better than Mj, LBJ, Kareem, Magic, Wilt, Bill, Tim Duncan, Shaq, Kobe, Larry (In no order) after this it’s debatable where curry stands. I feel like the FMVP has gotten to everyone heads, but y’all just ignore he lost it 3 times before to kd and Iggy lol. Whether his stats were good or not, or if he impacted the game more outside of the stat sheet, real top players would perform so much better than their teammates so it wouldn’t be close. There’s no excuse for losing it 3 times… plus he has no defensive accolades. Defense is half the game, it’s not only about shooting, fancy dribbling and creating space because of your shooting threat. Sure it’s important, but it’s definitely not everything. Curry has a chance to make it, but as of now he is not top 10, no way. Maybe 11-14 debatable

Both won 2 and Hakeem the greatest defender of them all. That puts Hakeem over Wilt. Splitting hairs on hallowed ground here but no way Wilt over Hakeem. Hakeem gets me almost 22 PPG, plus rebounds and all-time blocks, so I'm getting both a scorer, rebounder and paint defender. With Curry, I'd primarily just get shooting. He's not the greatest defender or playmaker, and isn't a combo guard or rebounder. So Hakeem simply does more. The thing with Kobe-Shaq, and Magic-Kareem is that they played with each other, which is a hell of a mountain to overcome if you're their opponent. Shaq 10 Bill Russell / Jerry West . Magic number 2 for this reason. He is the ONLY player in the history of NBA, As a ROOKIE, carry team to NBA finals, WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP, AND win FINALS MVP AS A ROOKIE. (Sure Kareem was out during that series. However it was during the time of the game where it was very physical and all tall players where modeling their game off of Kareem, Chamberlain, and Bill Russell. That is a feat all players can’t just work towards. All players coming in only have one shot, one year to break that record. I believe it is the most difficult record to be broken…The odds are insurmountable.
