The Ultimate Modern Classic? Why I Bought A Royal Enfield Interceptor 650
Royal Enfield, the world’s oldest motorcycle brand, is back with a modern twist on a very 60s idea of a British twin. Strangely enough, it attracts as much attention outside a retirement home as it does nestled amongst hipsters downtown. What's the deal here?

I’m from India. I recently bought this motorcycle and this bike puts a smile on my face every time when I ride it. It’s punchy and most of the torque gets delivered at 2000 rpm making it unbeatable in Indian roads. The road presence is amazing and everyone looks at my motorcycle in the traffic. The dual exhaust system attracts everyone in Indian roads.

Does it feel heavy taking it off the kick stand? I compared Continental GT 650 and Triumph T100 and the latter felt lot lighter, even though it has more mass. I guess the CG is quite low in comparison. Would love to get your thoughts on low speed maneuverability.

I just bought RE Interceptor 650 today. I also have a 22 Africa twin DCT Adventure. But I wanted a retro bike. The RE is a great bike for the $$$$. After 50+ motorcycles I haven't had one that is perfect for me without a few modifications. I'm going to try to leave the RE alone and ride it stock except for maybe a windshield.

@@acnorea123 The first time I took it down from the center stand, my Interceptor went straight to the asphalt. Quite embarrassing, even more so since I needed help to bring it back upright. I quickly learned to respect the weight, and a little less quickly learned how to handle it.

What I love about the interceptor is its extremely modifiable and royal Enfield themselves support these projects by posting it on their KZread channel
I have had Harleys, Honda, Yamaha, Triumph and Royal Enfield. Currently I got a GT650 and love it. Best warranty and classic design, enough power for any law abiding citizen. My favorite out of all the bikes I've owned.
Yes I agree... A motorcycle should look like this... Not like plastic container 👍🏻
I have grown to like the rear light and indicators on my Interceptor. They look very 1970s and are also very much the Royal Enfield look.

This might be the best review of the bike I've seen, and I've seen lots!
I picked one up in Jan 2019, and it has totally rekindled my interest in motorcycling. Zero mechanical issues in over 3 years. I installed the YSS kit with the front forks, which offered a substantial improvement in handling in almost all conditions. Replaced the stock seat with identical-looking RE touring seat, better for longer rides
Had mine since September 2021 , and I will never sell her , it's just a sweet bike all round . I have a faster bike that I use as my daily to and from work so the Interceptor is weekends , and yes people do come over for a look and a talk all the time . Nice review and thank you .

Good for you brian. Just make sure you do an oil change every 5000 mile, not 10,000 as suggested. Piston sleeves will score badly over time, ruining your wonderful engine.
I’ve made a mistake on the service intervals. The regular service interval should be every 6,000 miles, not the 10,000 miles stated in the video. I forgot to convert it from 10,000 km to miles. My apologies everyone. (Source: maintenanceschedule.net/royal-enfield-interceptor-650/#maintenance-schedule)

I've had mine since 2019 (ordered it, weren't in the dealers yet) and love it! I've made a few subtle changes both mechanical and cosmetic. Swapped out the mufflers for Indian made AEWs (sound great and quite a bit of weight savings), DNA air filter, booster plug (improves fueling) and YSS suspension upgrades (fork and shocks), really transformed the bike! For cosmetic changes, swapped out the turn signal with some genuine Lucas units, adjustable levers, fluted glass headlamp, Napleon bar end mirrors and an RE fly screen....the bike looks truly vintage now and I constantly get asked about "the restoration". I did make one "modern" concession, I replaced the seat with a Corbin, the original and touring versions We're agonizing on longer rides! I've been riding for close to 50yrs and own a few other bikes as well so, this bike isn't just appealing to beginner riders. I look at it as a blank canvas to make it "yours"....not done yet! Congrats and enjoy! Be safe! Ride with notion that you're invisible and nobody sees you.

@@iamalexsun It took a lot of internal debate (talking to myself) to convince myself to spend that kind of money, but my first 200 mile ride on the stock seat left me feeling like my nuts were in a vise!..... subsequent rides with the newly acquired "touring" seat were no better, so I bit the bullet and forked out the money for the Corbin, best (and most expensive) mod I've made yet, but totally worth it.

@@anonyfamous1007 Yes the placement is a such that while riding in touch & go traffic or pushing forward or backward from stand still. But over a period of time say in 1 or 2 weeks one learn to deal with it and some time dosent matter. I use to ride Sports bike so for me it took some more time. Rest everything is good if servicing is done on time. Engine oil, Oil Filter, Air Filter cleaning, Cone Set Greasing specially one is leaving near seface or coastal area - atleast once in 2 years and chain clean/lube.

Great choice and a very good review. I bought mine 2 years ago and it’s a keeper. You can keep it as standard as it’s a great bike anyway and spend any upgrade money on fuel or you can modify it to suit your own personal tastes. I fall into the latter category and have upgraded the existing seat, fitted YSS front spring kit and rear G Series shocks (really does transform the ride and handling), DNA filter + air intake plate, booster plug unrestricted header pipes from Stratos Performance (U.K.) and Zard silencers (they sound epic!) + sump guard, stainless brake and clutch pedals and probably a few other small items. It’s all about enjoying the ride for me and with the lower weight and unrestricted engine it pulls strongly enough and handles sweetly. I really don’t need anymore from a motorcycle but ask me again in 12 months and I might have modified something else🤣

Great video, Alex One thing that really appealed to about the Royal Enfield bikes over Harley-Davidson, which is my first love motorcycle, is the fact that the Royal Enfield bikes, in addition to them being much more user-friendly to new motorcyclists like myself, is that you're not breaking the bank when purchasing one with used Harley-Davidson motorcycles, you can easily be spending about $10,000 more than a brand new Royal Enfield bike

Welcome to the club! Ride Safe!
Hi, I have the GT version, basically the same bike. The biggest con for me is the weight, even the GT (which lacks the heavy centre stand to be found on the INTerceptor) is around 200kg and that weight is fairly high, since the engine is fairly high off the ground. That makes the bike hard to right should you drop it (I dropped mine once, no damage other than an after market bar end mirror). I like the plastic, it's lighter than steel or Aluminum. I'm light and short so I needed to lower the saddle height further than the adjustment of the the shocks would allow and reduce the bikes weight (not too hard) but that's just me. Thanks for the interesting video, I think we chose the right bike.

Hey, thanks for watching and the support! I'm about 5ft 8, the Int650 is a little tall for me. My heels are about a half inch off the ground with both foot down. I believe the GT650 is a little shorter. I would advice against getting the Grom, it's a fun little bike, just not the best for street use. Hope this helps! Cheers!
As you said, the 47 horsepower isn't insanely powerful, but let's be honest and acknowledge we're not going knee down on our daily commutes. This has more than enough power for my ride that includes highways, suburban riding, and a stint in the city.
