Your review was the best I’ve seen, you speak the way I need to have things explained. I have an aversion to glitz and marketing madness. In 1969 I was 20 years old working in a mining camp in the Yukon gazing obsessively at a glossy brochure for a Royal Enfield 750 Interceptor. I determined to quit my job, take my earnings and go to England to buy one and begin my exploration of the world. It never happened. I spent decades behind a desk and only had brief experience with motorcycles over the years. Now I am retired and have grandchildren, and like many a crazy old dreamer I am longing for an appropriately sized motorcycle, not a continent-devouring massive machine, nor a two-wheeled version of a jet fighter plane. As I watched your review I just said, “Ahhh, yes”. I could have been more brief and just said, “Thank you”, so, Thank you so much.

I've owned my Interceptor for just over a year and can't recommend them enough. I still find it strange how the bike grabs so much attention. On numerous occasions when I've parked the bike, when I'm on a day out, or just at the supermarket, people come up and want to look at the bike and ask questions about it. That's never happened with any other bike I've owned. I gave up bike's many years ago but the Interceptor lured me back onto two wheels. It literally is the bike that got me back into biking. Take care Stuart.

I couldn’t agree more with your assessment. My Interceptor is still relatively new, but I’ve had more fun riding it than any of the other bikes I’ve owned (still own). I love just sitting in the shed, smoking a cigar, staring at the thing. It looks like a motorcycle. When I get on my R1200RT, I’m going somewhere, usually a long ways away, at high speed. Dress up like an astronaut, make sure all the bits are programmed properly and, ride off in Tupperware wrapped serenity. When I ride the Interceptor, open faced helmet and waxed cotton jacket, I just smile and enjoy riding for riding’s sake. Oh yeah... after enameling the right side case (per your video), I couldn’t stop, so I’ve done the RE oil filler aluminum accessory cap and the left side crank plug bits (all in red, of course). S&S silencers (sound better and much, much lighter) and all of the sump guard, case guards, DNA filter, Motone/Tripkit bits). This bike is too much fun.

I've owned mine for just under 3 months and with roughly 3000 kms on the meter, the best thing I love about it is that it does what it was meant to do. It may not be the fastest, it may not be the most powerful engine... but that's the thing, it wasn't meant to be the fastest or the most powerful. It was meant to give the rider a pure motorcycling experience and that, it does perfectly. Everyday that I get on it, there hasn't been a single time yet when the starting burble didn't make me smile with the sheer joy of what's about to come.

As an aside, regarding the back pain - unless it's subsequent to an injury or physical condition, there may be things you can do to remedy or alleviate riding fatigue (e.g., there are a number of ways to rework the bars, adjusting the peg location, etc.).

Build quality: I was particularly impressed when I discovered that the front axle bolt was already greased (against corrosion) inside the front hub where it couldn't be seen. I was all set to sand off the rust, and grease the part, as I've had to do on my other bikes. So I figure that if they are putting that kind of attention to parts I can't see when I make the purchase, then they have done that in other parts that matter too. Ronn

Since the RE Interceptor 650 was introduced it's my most wanted. The look, the price and build quality and the self service friendliness - checked all the boxes. Sadly it's out of my financial reach at the moment. But I've hope for the low income days to end and then my friend, a RE Interceptor 650 Baker Express will be mine ;) Until then I'll continue to ride my old Suzuki GS500E as a daily driver, as I don't own a car anymore (since 10 years now). Lucky me living in Germany (in the "Muensterland" in Northrhine Westfalia), I don't have much of a hassle with a real winter and snow. For at least in 10 out of 12 months I can ride on my own. You have to be thankful for the small things in life ;) Stay safe and healthy - and always remember: rubber side down, shiny side up ;)

I own one, but plan on buying another bike as well. The mental satisfaction that I wish to achieve while selecting a new bike is still not there. Feelings with Interceptor are quite the kind one has with a "home", or a "good decision". It's hard to put it - Interceptor appeals to the mind and heart at the same time. Very unique this feeling.

After watching this video I went to the RE dealer and test rode an Interceptor. It was an instant decision - a few months later I purchased one! My background - I live in the US now but was originally from Belgium - back there, about 45 years ago, I used to ride and restore classic British bikes (Triumphs, AJS, Norton and Velocette). After quite a few years I got back into motorcycle when my oldest son bought one. Got an older Honda Shadow - to get me started until I decide what kind of bikes I really wanted. Kind of knew I would go back to some type of British classic - and the Interceptor perfectly flipped the bill! Love the bike and Stuart's great videos - keep the good work going!

Beautiful bike. In LA in 1968 my uncle showed up with a Royal Enfield 850 Interceptor. A really fun bike to ride and to start it we first had to pull the point cover and wipe off the condensation. Then spend about fifteen minutes taking turns kicking it over. Once it started it would vibrate across the garage floor on the center stand. All worth the effort just to ride the beast. I was fortunate to have been around to ride some of these great motorcycles. Keep up the Royal Enfield posts.

The bike benefits from being the right product at the right time. An antidote to digital overload and an escape from a working life dominated by screen time. As a tall man I ride a 2012 KTM adventure R but have ridden both RE 650’s and will probably buy a GT to replace my 2007 1098 Ducati that is too hard, too powerful and frankly way too expensive to run. My hope is that RE will build the 650 Enduro model and release it in time for my 60th birthday in March. I’d happily have the Enduro as my only and last bike to see me out.

The only issues I have with RE Interceptor 650 is the non-tubeless tyres and upward exhausts (They brush against the saddle bags while touring). Personally, I am encouraged with your passion. An hidden aspect of the bike's success is that it has gained its own respect/recognition/adulation without relying on glossy sales adverts, or teases staged through the press(spy shots!! yeah right). Word of mouth has proved really powerful with these bikes. It's a shame that Ronseal own the line 'It Does What It Says On The Tin'. RE play their own tune, whereas all the other manufacturers have to keep their eyes on all the other manufacturers to match/beat/improve/outdo to keep plying tech on us, and in particular i am fed up with hearing about bloody quickshifters.

Another fine video Sir. When I went to my local RE dealer, which is 75 miles away, I walked into their showroom and the first bike that caught my eye was a Continental GT 650 in Ventura Blue. Yes ,it was love at first sight. They had several INT 650s, which is what they're called in the US and I rode a demo INT equipped with the S&S slip-on cans. But I was entranced by Ventura Blue. And besides the Interceptor and Continental were they same price at $5,990. So I succumbed to Cafe Racer styling. Love the bike, they're all you say and more . I frequently take it on a 46 mile loop around my area ,that features curves and countryside. Again , I say ,keep up the good work.

I've been looking at mid sized machines and the interceptor has certainly caught my eye along with the T100. Thoroughly enjoyed watching this and always look forward to your new content appearing. Keep up the good work Stuart!

Thank You for the reminder about our (The World!) loss of the fabulous Sean Connery. I was just a kid, falling asleep in the back seat, when my father took the family out to a Drive-In Movie. It's the very first such outing I have clear memories of, and the film was "Doctor No" ! I've been a big fan of his career my whole life. Cheers, and safe riding my friend .

Another great assessment of the Interceptor. It’s interesting to see the trend of the other big manufacturers moving toward the middle weight, smaller displacement and more budget friendly market sector that Royal Enfield cleverly identified and have dominated for some time now.

I am so disappointed that the province I live in overpriced the interceptor so high that I did not want to pay the price. I'm grateful to have my Moto Guzzi though you can do tappets in a half an hour on a Guzzi it would take you 15 minutes then. Another great video always informative your voice just makes it so much better thanks again.

You want to talk bonkers I live in Ontario the dealership is near the Quebec border and there's 4 dealerships there they were $4,000 starting cheaper then Ontario. But they wouldn't deal with me and there's a tax to transfer between Quebec and Ontario ownership. British Columbia gets a discount because they have one of only two Docs where the ships come in to deliver the bikes.

Hey Stu, greetings from South Australia.I am a keen motorcyclist but currently laid recovering from a broken wrist and tendons in my shoulder. Discovering your channel has been one of the highlights of my long, enforced holiday. You are a breath of fresh air, I love your objective, unbiased analysis, your desire to provide useful, entertaining video. and certainly not least, I love your Yorkshire accent! I have owned 6 bikes, 3 british and 3 Italian, loved them all, currently own 2 Guzzis, a LeMans 1000 and a California Stone. I think the current V7 Guzzi in it's various iterations is a worthy contender in the revived classic stakes too! Looking forward to seeing what happens with Norton, hope you get to do a review. Keep up the good work

Stuart, your videos (watched em all!) are superb! I have had the "bug" biting me for some time and although I did not need much encouragement to make the plunge back into riding they have intensified that yearning to that point where my leg is about to be thrown over the Interceptor! I rode a Triumph TR6 back in the mid 60s and the Interceptor reminds me a great deal of that experience, loved that bike!

I really enjoy your videos very much, thank you. Down-to-earth objective commentary and opinions - all evidence-based and informative. The things you like about this bike are exactly what I have been looking for since I stopped riding bikes full time some years ago. As a one-time motor-cycle mechanic, and an ex motorcycle cop, I've had more than my share of motorcycle riding for work and for pleasure, and have owned many machines. I ventured back onto two wheels briefly a couple of years ago with a Moto Guzzi V7 III. Nice bike, but lacking what I was after - the very features you describes as promised by the RE 650. I am a huge fan of the reliability and engineering excellence of the Japanese machines - but hate the look of all the modern bikes with their disappointingly similar "explosion-in-a-toolbox" aesthetics. In considering the Royal Enfield, I have spent many months watching every available video and reading every available article to try and find something negative or disappointing about them...and have not been able to. All of the criticisms are minor, and as a mechanic , the kinds of things I can address myself (suspension mods etc). I have my RE 650 Interceptor on order and as we head into our Southern Hemisphere summer, I cannot wait to discover whether it is the machine that can bring back the two-wheeled joy I experienced in my youth.

I think it's a combination of looks, practicability, nostalgia and bang for your bucks. RE have just nailed it with this bike and much could be said about the infallible timing as well -people are interested in this style again, not just us older folk, but the younger riders who have only seen this style in magazines. I can only talk for myself, but the crazy, overdone, plastic insect looking things that pass as modern bikes lately just don't cut it. All i see in a lot of modern design is superfluous hard angles and bits that mysteriously head off in a weird direction with absolutely no function, just to look "modern" and "edgy". You look at the Interceptor and it's just honest, no presumption about it. Modest. It's plain enjoyment brought back to motorcycling and it will be the next bike i buy for all these reasons.

I completely agree that the naked bikes look like insects. Where's the engine? What's all that crap going on under the tank? The major manufacturers are trying to entice customers with higher and higher max power, like if you don't have 100 hp you're a wimp. In the '60s the Triumph Bonneville 650 was touted as the fastest production bike on the planet. What was its max power? It was 47 hp. Enough said.

Another great video Stuart. I test rode an Interceptor last year whilst looking for a new bike and it didn't quite hit the mark for me as the one bike to do everything I wanted. I've ended up with an older sports tourer for those longer 2 up trips but I'm starting to think of buying a second bike for those solo and local trips along the back roads. I'll be keeping my eyes open for a nice 'pre-loved' example next spring :)

It looks very similar to BSA in style, and I love it. One suggestion. Is there any chance when you do the reviews you could let us hear the bikes ticking over then the wonderful exhaust sound when they're revved up, please?

Well said uncle stu , the enfield interceptor 650 is a bike that is a swan in ugly duckling form ,but she can be given a good seeing too to become a real beauty. I'm very happy with mine ,she handles alright but i think a change of tyres would help alot . Not a very fast bike but and i do say but she is fast enough for me .people are always looking at her when she's parked up (never happened with my other bikes).anyway take care of yourself and the family. 👍👍👍👍
