    How long would you say would it take to achieve the ability to truly lucid dream for the average person?

  • @shadowblaze9424

    I’m new to LD, but from my first and second attempts, I realized it’s about the focus and relaxation. I meditate a bit so it’s helpful. Try to remember you’re awake, but don’t get excited for it. If you can stay completely still and not move, you can get into sleep quickly. I’m onto my 4th try now and I feel a lot more familiar with only like 10 seconds of lucid dreaming. I’ll come back and log anything that occurs if it helps.

  • @LucidDreamPortal

    It's a very difficult question to answer. But think of it this way: How long does the average person take to learn a new language? The answer to that question is roughly the same, with the same complexity. Everyone's rate of progress will vary, and ones ability to understand the language improves over time, but that doesn't mean they can't speak it a little earlier on. Sorry to not be more precise, but as you can see from the analogy, some things just have a lot of grey areas and imprecision baked in :) And just to correct the previous comment, staying still isn't necessary. It's helpful to minimize movement a little but not at the risk of discomfort. We fall asleep every night without having to consciously stay absolutely still, the same is true for lucid dreaming. If you need to adjust for comfort, or swallow, or anything else. You can do so without issue.

    Does anybody have advice on maintaining focus to make it into conscious sleep? I’m new to this and am currently going to take my 4th attempt. My first time I felt hypnagogic, but got excited. The second time, I was successful but only for about 10 seconds lucid dreaming, once again, losing focus from being excited. No dream on my 3rd.

    from what i've learned from you: - There are practically infinitely many techniques as you can just invent your own at any time. i.e. "FILD" is just a WILD technique because it's just something to focus on. - There are 2 techniques no? As WILD and DILD are fundamentally different? Though memory is obviously important for dreaming in general. What's the point of dreaming if you can't remember etc, childhood amnesia is also a good analogy. another point: I've never gotten my head around the prospective memory bit. You always use the example of going to the store to buy milk, but in waking life you know you're in the store so it's easy to remember. With dreams it seems paradoxical that this should work as you don't know you're dreaming by default. Appreciate the classical in the background like Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Suite and Beethoven's 9th symphony :)

  • @LucidDreamPortal

    @LucidDreamPortal

    Жыл бұрын

    I wouldn't say they're fundamentally different, there is a lot of overlap ( so much so that back in the day I used to use the term DWILD for the grey areas). It's really more to do with broken versus unbroken memory/attention. With variables from a few seconds to hours. And yes, familiarity with your dreams via dream journalling helps to create the "visiting the store" effect :)

  • @ryzikx

    @ryzikx

    Жыл бұрын

    @@LucidDreamPortal I see, so it's more like a spectrum with WILD on one side and DILD on the other with time unaware being the scale? For example 100% WILD would be 0 time unaware, as you go straight from wakefulness to dreaming while maintaining consciousness. 100% DILD would be no awareness until you're in the middle of the dream. Anything in the middle is a "gray" area. (And maybe MILD is right in the middle) Does this sound like an accurate description? Also I understand the prospective memory bit now, thank you.

    I dunno if I asked but there is interesting thing connected with memory, my friend from one LD group has a conversation with someone and topic of this conversation has showed in his dream, another interesting event he woke up in the middle of the night for a while and his friend asked if there is something to drink, after short answer he again fall asleep and was dreaming about his friend and drinks. Reddit said to him that this is dream incubation, and he wonder if he could use it but intentionally, like has a conversation with clues and then get those clues while dreaming or he wake up talk about LD then he go back to bed quickly and got clues while dreaming

    My memory has been a little bit off lately - it's been a bit more difficult to recall what I've been learning in general and what has been happening around me. Granted, I'm sure that will improve shortly after I fix the main issues, but it's really no wonder I've been seeing a lesser number of dreams in general. My brain is trying to store energy and power to do something else because it doesn't perceive dreams as the number one priority right now. Which I guess is good as they shouldn't be, but they have fallen from where they were. It's also been causing very important things to be forgotten, which has farther worsened the issue(s). For example, this whole video. Things were going over my head the whole time. I brought up yesterday that my focus has been off and it was apparent today - the whole first half of the video besides the socks is basically a wash. When the banana part was brought up, I kept thinking about it. Was it going to be hidden or up-front? My whole attention was on that instead of on the video. I will give the video another watch, just so I can actually listen clearly, but I think that this highlights a clear flaw I have right now and acts as a warning if I keep down this path of not actively trying to improve. The parts I heard clearly were very insightful! I think it's also worth mentioning that health also factors a lot into memory as well and that, to be a lucid dreamer, health is also a priority. Anyway, time to give the video a second watch through!

I think I need your advice on how to engage my memory to address the following issue: Just like many other people, I have recurring dreams in which I am back at high school. These are extremely common, yet there seems to be almost some kind of resistance to remember that this is no longer my reality. As if the mind were actually reluctant to remember. I find it a bit silly because this is such an obvious dream sign and it is so common that if I somehow hacked this, I would be almost a nightly lucid dreamer. Any ideas how to deal with this? Daniel, I had success taking the choline bitartrate and b12. The lucid dream was longer than usual and more stable. I didn't do any technique either. I'm going to try the ALPHA GPC tonight. I'm doing the prospective memory training in ETWOLD as well. It's helped me remember my goals in lucid dreams. I used to not be able to remember a damn thing in that state. I just did random things while I was lucid lol.

    Not really. They increase your chances by about 5-10% at the absolute maximum. Dreams are already filled with strange events. If you don't notice them, then you'll not notice a flashing light. Both require the same amount of training.
