The best thing from what i have noticed is to take things calmly. When im in a dream i try to hurry things because im afraid i might wake up early or lose lucidity but that always messes things up, my dream control doesn't get fully engaged and when i try to spawn something it brings something else that can look similiar. But in my last LD i have tried to take it slowly and give its time to it and it has been much better.

A tip to new lucid dreamers, try not to exert too much 'dream control' when you're starting off. It can get you a little over-excited and wake you up. Practice it in small doses if possible : )

"It's behind you!" is a good tip! Just closing my eyes also tends to work for me if I want to change or create something. Though it does not always turn out as expected! Wishing to turn a cupboard board door into a portal that led to the beach worked (on the second try, after I'd closed my eyes), but the beach came with a tiny pirate ship and its motley crew. I'm not complaining, though, I think that was my favorite lucid dream thus far. So far, asking for help with reading has been a mixed bag! In that same lucid dream with the tiny pirate ship, all text was switching back and forth between the latin and cyrillic alphabet (though I'm pretty sure none of the cyrillic writing was in any way accurate); I showed a scroll to a dream character - and she thought it was cursed. Arr. But I really need to remember to ask for help with flying! Like the talking eider ducks, that would've been a perfect opportunity. Oh well, next time... (Which will hopefully be soon: I'm dreaming about lucid dreaming again.) Though ideally, I would really like to have a dream where I turn into a bird. Once I've managed that, I'm pretty sure the actual flying will be a doozy, because birds fly, right? (Oh no, oh no, I'm thinking of penguins and kakapos now... No, out, shhhh, that is not a helpful thought!)

I swear this is true, I have read text very clearly in a lucid dream in the later periods of REM, it remained stable as long as the entire page remained within my field of view. As soon as I turned away, the book completely changed topics.

My lucidity isn’t very consistent but sometimes I’ll have a dream where I’m being chased or attacked and this will cause me to become lucid. I like to use a force push (like I’m in Star Wars) to push the attacker away from me. That one is usually pretty easy to do and it’s effective. I also like to throw fire balls. If you’re trying to fly, I recommend jumping really high in to the sky like Superman learning how to fly.

I had my first truely lucid dream last night after read "Are you dreaming?" (highly recommend 👌) and got lucky that it took only 3 weeks to have one and only 2 weeks of watching this channel! (The book was key 🔑) My lucid dream was a false awakening but even though I had a plan for my goal like the book recommended- nothing worked to get me out of my house! I was shocked by how my wishes had NO effect on my surroundings and I was eventually tricked out of my experience by a second false awakening!! I can't stress how shocked I was by how little control I had- I may need to start watching Star trek before chasing my next butterfly 🙃

I had this fake lucid dream where I was sitting down and then I just randomly decided to do a reality check, so did one and it was the nose pinch test. I could breathe through my nose and then instantly after I realised I was dreaming I thought about going into a forest in my dream. I have always wanted to go to a forest when I lucid dream. So after every test I do in the waking world I would think "if I was dreaming, I would want to go to a forest". Is this a good sign that I know what I want to do when I'm lucid dreaming?

That's very lucky for you, you must have brain chemistry that is beneficial for lucidity. Well, you've answered your own question a little... write them down! - But I'd also recommend spending a little more time practicing mindfulness, as this should help you to maintain lucidity (loads of advice here on the channel, be sure to check out some of the older videos, they should help!). I'm still learning to have longer and more stable LDs. Sometimes I tried to let a special person appear or things like that, but it didn't work very well. Anyway, I think the "behind you" technique could be very beneficial to me.

My favorite dream control technique is basically pouring water on myself. I was on KZread one night and I saw this video where they were talking about anime/manga characters. In this video, they were talking about a character who was cursed where they would either be a girl or a boy depending on if hot or cold water was poured on them. Since one of my dream goals is to change my appearance, I've actually used this twice, both times working (though the second time I didn't notice because I had some anxiety while attempting - hindsight is 20/20). I've actually also used the asking for help twice as well and both times the dream character was a helpful jerk. The first time, I went up to a dream character and was like "subconscious, why can't I control anything" and they were like "I'm not your subconscious, however, if I was...I would tell you to relax and not worry about it." Second time, the dream character was just sitting in a tree and, when I was telling him my frustrations, he was like "focus on something else and then what you'll want will happen." They were indeed helpful, so, would recommend! I should start reframing as I do struggle with changing things or going somewhere else. I've been able to create portals, but, none have gone to exactly where I wanted to go. If I'm able to reframe, I should be able to get two obstacles out of the way and actually accomplish a bit of my dream goal. Or maybe I'm over complicating things and just relax like the dream characters are telling me to. Anyway, nice, refreshing video, especially after a bit of a rough day! Learned a bit but a nice review was helpful as well!

Updating my journal with this dreamsign of late: I am always losing or missing essential items, even my car, when I usually am fairly prepared IRL. I never lose my car. As you only have what you think you have in the dreamworld, I feel like this unpreparedness is trying to alert me to “the strangeness of the dream”, and I should reality check, immediately! For the purposes of dream control, once I realize that I’m dreaming, I can conjure the item into my pocket or wish my car to me, but if I am lucid, I don’t really need my car, unless it’s for the experience of driving, and then any car will do. Once I am lucid, I am very likely to go off and do something else entirely.

I use a simple 5 find events to try: looking through the house your in for a clock, try and turn any door handle, Check out any cars number plates, people I came across were hollow on the inside (don't ask I magically had a knife, somehow😮), all night time dreamscapes have a full blue moon, look for the edge of the dream, were the scene blends into blackness.

Hi Angus, excuse the slow reply, the bank holiday weekend slowed down my opportunities to check comments. But thank you so much for your very kind and generous support. It really makes the world of difference. Thank you! That's a very good question and also very unusual, I've yet to have encountered anyone who has experienced this same issue. This leads me to assume that it's likely lifestyle related and based on a memory or expectation based on the real world. Is there anything in your waking life, present or past, that might be related to this? Perhaps you're a diver, gamer, or something that has given you an unusual expectation? The best thing to do would be to build a new expectation that contradicts this in waking life and tie it to a certain action. Which should be easy as gravity is very persistent here. For example, practice jumping while touching the tip of your nose, to connect the sensation of gravity to the action. I would say that it is worth being pleased that your issue isn't the other way around (difficulty flying) as this is far more common. Hopefully this makes sense?

so I’ve been tryna lucid dream for a while. What happens is when I think I’m dreaming and I go to do a reality check like look at my hands, my hands disappear. And one time when I actually could see my hands, my finger didn’t even go through my hand. Also recently, whenever I become lucid everything in my dream goes dark and after a couple seconds I just wake up. Anyone got any tips?

It sounds like you're performing one of the most unreliable reality checks there is, which makes me think you've been learning from low quality sources that share bad information. My best tip would be to replace your reality check with a reliable test (lots of videos here on the channel regarding that), and I'd suggest going over the older content on the channel so that you have a good understanding of the subject. Good luck!

I have a hypothesis that if I eat a bunch of candy canes; which I hate; if I fail to control my lucid dreams, then I'll have perfect dream control in all my lucid dreams. I hypothesize that my subconscious will believe that I wouldn't agree to doing this unless I believed that I'd be able to control my lucid dreams. I also hypothesize that since I can't stand the taste of candy canes and I can't imagine eating over a dozen of them that it would be easier to believe that I can control a lucid dream than believing I'll have to eat a bunch of candy canes. I can't imagine this not working. I want to know if this is a good idea and I should do this.

Sorry to say but this doesn't sound plausible. We cannot bargain with or trick the subconscious (and remember, the subconscious is just a word to describe functions in the brain, not an entity). Also, it would incredibly unhealthy to ingest this much sugar and certainly not advisable. Finally, even if it were a success, which is close to impossible, it would not be a sustainable approach. Remember there are no short cuts for lucid dreaming, so it's best not to waste energy on looking for them.

What happens if you try this, it does NOT work as planned, and you eat the candy canes as a 'punishment'? You're basically creating a connection between having a lucid dream and suffering an unpleasant consequence, which can't be helpful. I do not think anything LD-related is made easier by adding pressure.

I've gotten really good with string control when I'm in certain dream locations. My grandparents house the house I grew up in a house I really wanted to buy but didn't get to the current house I live in Etc sometimes something as simple as looking at the window and seeing that a certain dream character has come by to pick me up so I can leave that area is all it takes all I need to do is go upstairs in the house and look out the window to see a car pulling into the driveway then all I need to do is go out the front door and I'm in that car lately though I've been having really weird trippy dr. Seuss on.lsd dreams and those are a lot harder. I'm aware that I'm dreaming and I'm Lucid but I just can't control it I've tried flying away from it I've tried spinning I've tried speaking out what I want to happen nothing has worked. I started like last night just looking around and seeing okay I can't control this dream maybe there's something here I'm supposed to learn. I'm definitely going to do the whole interacting with dream characters reframing expectations and expecting things to be behind me. Sorry for any bad grammar or punctuation I'm blind and I use speech to text

Hi Daniel, thank you for this video! Dream control is a huge struggle for me. For almost 2 years now I've been pretty succeful at getting lucid (I have almost 150 recorded LD's) but have barely ever been able to have signicant dream control. For the last few months I've been trying to ground myself and get a higher level of lucidity/ realisation of what being in a dream means (with some success) but at this point my negative expectation is so high I can't get past it even when I'm on a high level of lucidity. I want to give reframing another shot but I have failed before with impossible actions/swimming as flying etc. and with every failed attempt my negative beliefs have grown stronger. Do you have any advice for getting out of a negative expectation loop? Thanks in advance!

I'm getting considerably better at controlling MY ACTIONS, and SOMETIMES original destinations, but when I find myself conscious of my being in a dream and it's a negative dream, I've had a difficult time going from negative to positive. I'm usually too busy palpating or "feeling in" to cement my consciousness in the scene. I've attempted to do the portal and failed, but I've been able to hover and fly out to another more positive scene. What I'm interested in now is separation of my astral body which I find much easier in a lucid dream. I NEVER attempt this in a negative dream. I've had a horrible experience doing that, and I don't recommend anyone attempt to in a nightmare or dark, low energy lucid dream. It draws the dark, negative entities to you like a moth to a light. If you give them space in your consciousness, they often will see you as a possible vessel to attach to. Personally, I don't make eye contact or even let them know I can see them. Ignoring them completely is what I suggest. I don't even like mentioning them. Any attention will strengthen their low vibration and weaken your high vibration. If you've never encountered one, consider yourself blessed and I hope it stays that way for you. They're parasitic and aren't something you want waiting for you on the other side of the veil.

No.3: ask for help from a trustworthy looking character. Me, who never asks for help and is too damn naive irl: aight, bet. Tho, once, I accidentally controlled my lucid dream (so far; only gotten three), where I wanted to go home but it was going to rain. The accidental control is when I stopped myself awkward mid-run and though, 'hey, wait. I'm in a dream." Everything around me became vivid and I just jumped off flying towards my destination. However, mid-flight, I sense the world, that i was in, was rejecting my control and tried to pull my flight course backwards. Though, I really wanted to go home, out of the rain, and countered that by turning a 180°, flying backwards, towards my destination. I felt like a huge genius after the world gave up trying to control me and I could fly and landed normally. I was kind of excited and 'woke up' (into another dream) where I excitedly texted my friend (yes. Text. Idk how, but I could read and text in the dream, which is why I thought i really woke up) about the lucid dream. Then, to end it like every bad cliche ending, my mother actually woke me up for real, and I was left stunned by the clarity of both dreams (does it count as two? If you 'wake' up into another dream? I dont know, educate me, please.)

I really loved hearing some jokes in your previous videos. Especially the older ones. I kind of miss it and I think that your channel could use som more jokes or maybe even irony. You started the video in a very intresting way but later on, let's say in halfway of the video I started losing concentration a bit. New viewers will probably do the same. I had the impression that you're trying to explain some things a little too much. I have already got your point back then so it was easy for me to get distracted. Novelty is stimulating and our reward system in the brain want something new than he gets all the time. I don't really know what to say in this case. Maybe try to explain things in shorter period of time but without losing the understanding in your audience? Actually after some thoughts I think that instead of going deep into details you could picture some ridiculous or funny situation as an example. When you were saying about asking a dream character about help you could have for example pictured when a person keeps constantly demending from a dream character one thing after another before he even got a single one of them (illustrated in a funny exampel of course). I've also noticed that your intonation was good at the begining of the video but later on you weren't expressing that much emotions. When you see that someone is talking in an "energized" way, it is way easier to mantain focus and the content seems more intresting. Let me know what you thing about this.

There are subtle jokes in this video (but it's a lucid dreaming channel primarily, not comedy). Honestly, It sounds to me like you may be suffering from a mild attention issue, which is quite common among people these days. I would say, firmly but kindly, that it is not my place as a teacher to enable short concentration spans or dopamine addiction, as these are two of the biggest hurdles for those who want to lucid dream. The level of detail required for this subject is already minimized to fit KZread, but to do so any further would make this not a channel that teaches, but a channel that is creating entertainment about lucid dreaming (but not offering any useful content). In today's world people's attention spans are diminishing at a rapid rate. Of course I am not against the occasional light-hearted or silly videos (I do them every now and then as you know), but if all my videos were made this way, I'd be offering nothing of value - I would be part of the problem. In all seriousness, I think what you are describing here is something that will limit your own ability to lucid dream in the long run. If I had my way, and when I teach this subject on more adult platforms and spaces (non-KZread), I prefer long-form thoughtful explorations. Not only does this allow the depth required, for what is a very deep subject requiring a lot of detail, but it also helps train the minds of those who are learning to be able to pay-attention and build the muscles required for lucid dreaming and lucid thinking. If anything, I would say that my content here on KZread, while more detailed than other channels, is the absolute minimum level of depth that is required. And, I would recommend that anyone who wants to take this subject serious invests time in my books. Don't let the modern world turn your brain into a thrill-seeking machine. In the long run it leads to constant frustration and various other issues. This subject is a marathon and not a sprint, and requires a mind that can stay focused on very subtle details for long periods of time.

@@LucidDreamPortalActually you're right. But I doesn't suffer from an attention issue. As a matter of fact I think that chasing attention makes you an extremely weak person. You stop focusing on what really matters to you in life and try to satisfy others. You are just simply not living the life to the fullest by doing that. I just focused too match on how to improve a video and reach more people that I lost sight of your channel's main goal. Thank you for the criticism. It was quite sharp but it showed me that I am too pushy and what I should work on in the future.

I'm the exact opposite, to be honest. Especially when it comes to topics that are as many-layered and as complex as lucid dreaming, jokes, flashy visuals, "exciting" sounds and noises, and a high-energy presenter are all factors that I personally find distracting. They all pull my attention away from the intended message, which in turn means that I need to work harder in order to focus on the right thing. Which is of course something I am happy to do when the topic is important enough to me -- I just wanted to add a different viewpoint to the mix here. My guess would be that as a teacher of any skill, one would probably be wise to go with "a happy medium" (which in itself will of course refer to different things depending on the topic / skill at hand).
