Out of nowhere KZread decided to recommend this to me, not knowing I was there in 1996 for that first battle. Who knew that this little weekend event would grow to include to include dozens of buildings and thousands of people. Congrats to the organisers for maintaining the energy from that first event. It was a blast back then and it looks like it still is!

Back in the day, say 40 years ago, my pals in SCA would look to enhance their armor kit by finding suitable sources of metal plates. Curiously enough, several local speed signs went missing. The quality and finish of armor and costuming has advanced beyond those early days - such that they rival or exceed movie props. Great video

As a veteran, personally, I am against wet-wipes of any kind. Nothing beats soap and water to skin. If you wet wipe, do that in between regular showering, to make sure you don't break out in rash or in a bad hygiene situation. Some get away with delaying showing, but trust me, you smell worse to others than you do yourself and you don't ever want to experience prickly heat (sweat born rash that feels like IV needles being stabbed an inch or two deep into your back over and over)

In the big battles you respawn at points on the field. They place them strategically to slow down how fast they can respawn.. better fit you are faster you can respawn. On assassinations those are handled in game and you are only dead for that specific quest.

You know, somehow non German Larp "hollidays" always seem friendlier. On Drachenfest we kad the "Knüppeltag" (Cludgel Day). Where a big blob of people wandered the streets of Aldradach to beat anyone not wearing a hat. xD But it got prohibited by the (in time) city officials because it was "too disruptive". We still got the night of long knives where everyone on the field at night is fair game. :D And in replacement of the Knüppeltag we now got a sporing event, the "Steckenkrieg" (Stick War) which always devolved into a giant violent brawl. Weapons are obviously forbidden, but well, pans, ladles, wood planks and bricks are not weapons. They actually hire guards to protect the game from disruption of the hooligans. There is quiet an hilarious image from this year I remember of someone beating a guard on the grund screaming "We are peaceful what are you!" Here is a video from 2018, thats not a battle, its a sporting event: kzread.info/dash/bejne/o2R6uclylq3JXag.html
