The Ultimate Domino Review - Part 1

Ойын-сауық

Ever wondered which dominoes to buy? What dominoes are better for you and your setups? Or how about the most asked question on my video's and channel: "Where do you buy your dominoes?"
Well, I will answer that, and let's take it to the next level with everything you need to know about these 7 chosen domino brands. The Ultimate Domino Review will go in depth into a lot of categories regarding these dominoes.
The 7 domino brands and where to buy them:
Lamping - (no official website, just an email): maria-lamping@web.de
Bulkdominoes - bulkdominoes.com/
H5 Domino Creations - www.hevesh5.com/buydominoes
Domino Day stones - www.dominowebshop.com/product...
Mr.Domino - www.dominowebshop.com/
Don Domino - www.dondomino.eu/
Ya Le Zhi dominoes - parcelup.com/shop/item.php?id... (specific product)
Honorable mentions:

DominoRush - (no official website, only email): contact@dominorush.gmail.com
DrDomino - irdomino.ir/
BigEyeFish Domino House - (No dominoes for sale yet, its only a play house): befdominohouse.business.site/
The video was getting too long so it will be made into 3 parts. Part 1 will introduce the domino brands, some of which you might not have yet heard of. We take a look at the most important details like the quality, durability and availability.
This is a very informative video and dont worry, part 2 and 3 will have some more action :) (teaser: price, speed, stability and whats the best domino for you will come)
I hope this video will educate you too on some domino history and where the dominoes are being produced. This video was a huge task of doing research, confirming details, corresponding with the makers, filming, designing, animating and editing.
Please like the video if you do, it really helps the channel and most importantly, share this video with anyone who is either new into dominoes or wants to know where to buy the dominoes and what they offer.

    Edit 15-06-22: For those wondering about the dominoes used in the show Domino Challenge which I compete in, those are the same production as Domino Day stones (same dimensions and same colors). Edit 29-04-21 for 4:08: Apparently the Domino Day original box from the MrDomino webshop is now reduced to 1.000 dominoes per box, not 1.500. This literally changed just a few days ago. Small correction: Mr.domino are 0,7 cm thick, not 0,75

    You are very welcome. Im honest about Don Domino and am taking all the facts of all brands. I really see those dominoes as the main competitor against Lamping dominoes in Europe. They really feel good with building. I am eager to use them in the next DDT event ^^ (I calculated the amounts we needed for the lines haha)

    Your dominoes are great, but here are a few suggestions: 1. If you have or a discount for big numbers of dominoes, show it on your website. 2. Add more colors. 3. Try to make the transparent dominoes really transparent like bulk and introduce transparent colors. 4.Produce more dominoes, there aren't enough in stock for builders who need huge quantities.

    @@knurpsel6992 Thank you for the great suggestions! 1. We do indeed have discounts, starting at 2.500 dominoes. For the exact rates, you can contact us at info@dondomino.eu 2. Certainly going to add more colors! We're now at 24, but we'll be gradually adding more colors in the coming motnhs. 3. Good point! Our transparent is somewhat mat. We're looking at introducing a fully transparent shade, and also transparent colors would be great. It will involve some changes in our production however, so it's not something that you can expect in the short term. 4. For most popular colors, our stock is sufficient for larger quantities. Only if you need really large quantities (like 50.000+), it could involve a little waiting time depending on which colors you need. However, we're in the process of scaling up our stock, so in the future it will be less and less of an issue. Have a great day 😃

    I love the series already! It's about time, someone makes a proper comparison between all the different dominoes. I looove the idea of the tier list! :D And it is executed perfectly with the domino wall! 10:16 I don't really understand what you mean with the special property about the H5 quality. Personally, I don't see a difference between H5 and for example DonDominos on slippery floor.. Other than that, really interesting stuff so far. I would definitely agree with your quality tier list from my experience. Although you are quite generous with lampings :D I would not have been suprised if it was c or d tier at the moment lol Sometimes when a schlamping ruins my setup, I just wish I had built with S tier dominoes instead :D Thats how I'm going to refer to them from now on :D Really excited for the next part!

    Thanks man! Well, the slippery floor thing is something I will show a bit more in detail in part 2 but in short: You know domino express lines and corners on slippery floors makes them scatter? Well, H5DC is the absolute best to counter that. Those dominoes stay in place. Its a small detail but it makes those the best on slippery floors like tiles, marmoleum, waxed wood etc. With Lampings, I know what you mean. But she actually improved a bit. Something you wouldnt say but for example with the last DDT2018 and 2019, I think a total of 250-300k of new Lampings were ordered and although we of course had 2 buckets full of "Rejects / Schalmpings", they all were standing in fields and structures those years. For example, the doubletrick 3D wall in 2019, the red/green line with the emoticons, all brand new lampings and Wim and Bart came up with the neat idea to shake the box of 4000 white quite a bit to get rid of the frayed edges.

    This was Such a Detailed Review for a Start ! I love how the Editing makes the Video Quality So Good, with your Camera Shots that you took ! Also Sadly, Many Domino brands in Asia are from China, and we Indians are already Working on to try to avoid Chinese Products as Much as Possible, Wish Domino Rush Dominoes Come Back to Stock Soon, they were in stock for a week or so, on April 14, But again they got out of stock on April 22. Also, about the Review, I do think the Don Dominoes look Really good, and if they get worldwide, they can be a big competitor for Bulk and Lamping. Bulks and Lampings are always quite big in reviews as we know, as are the H5DC’s. Also I do think the Mr Dominoes are quite good, and if hey also get Worldwide, they can also be a good competitor too. Also, last but not the least ..... I CAN’T WAIT FOR PART 2 !

    Great video, can't wait to watch part 2. I mostly agree with you, but I think you are too generous with Lamping dominoes as to quality. These frayed edges are so annoying. I ended up spraping off every single domino when they arrived! Even after that the quality of bulk was much better. I did the same durability test, but I threw the dominoes around for several minutes. H5 really didn't do well here, they clearly lost this contest to Lamping and bulk (and that's why I decided it was going to be bulk for me, although I live in Germany and they're quite expensive because of shipping costs and tariffs). As to the better surface of H5: This is really nice for compact setups, but try building a 5x5-pyramid with the different brands. The H5 one won't topple reliably due to the less slippery surface. It's a bit of a double-edged sword...

  • @Wdomino

    @Wdomino

    3 жыл бұрын

    Thanks! I concur. I havent touched the advanced building yet but indeed H5DC has a real disadvantage on small structures. The Lamping thing I can understand but I take her quality of the whole lifespan, and truthfully she has improved very recently. Something I explained TheRealMcJoni too, Lamping isnt actually too bad even with the frayed edges. Yes they are annoying but I too have them on some colors and they really go off after a few times of using them (especially structures). The old Lamping dominoes were the absolute best and I have to take those into account too. Plus, there was a period in between 2016-2019 where indeed quite a number of builders have complained and she seemed to have improved a bit. I will do a "what the best domino for this" in part 3 where indeed things like H5DC can better be used for small setups instead of small walls.

  • @waterclouddomino1487

    @waterclouddomino1487

    Yeah I'd agree with everything you said, especially the h5 losing the durability test because of the sharp corners (and thus chipping easier). H5 are also not that great for small structures because of their stability/surface, for example the 5x5 pyramid that you noted.

    12:03 I'm actually surprised you put Lamping above Mr. Domino on the tier list. The review seems like a benchmark method, so I'm curious on what metrics you compared the dominoes? In my opinion, the Lamping dominoes feel really cheap in hand, they have a more plastic-like sound when they fall, and many dominoes are frayed. When I build with new Lamping, I actually build with sandpaper by my side to fixed the frayed dominoes. I feel more comfortable with building with Mr.Domino / Domino Day stones than with Lampings, because of the frayed / crooked dominoes. With Mr. Domino / Domino Day stones, you can immediately build creations without having to worry about frayed / crooked dominoes. Also, Lampings are very shiny when they fall (which make them look cheap and plastic) and the other are matte colors, which makes it easier to see an image in a domino field. I think Lampings are not so reliable compared to the other brands (I don't have experience with H5DC, Bulk, DonDomino and Ya Le Zhi). Anyhow, I think you made a very detailed video about the domino brands out there and we all needed this: an experienced builder comparing multiple domino brands. I also think you started a great discussion in the comment section, with everybody mentioning their own experiences with the brands. I'm looking very forward to the next videos!

  • @Wdomino

    @Wdomino

    3 жыл бұрын

    I can elaborate on that a bit more, because I can understand people's opinions about Lamping because I have them too. The thing is, im already doing and filming part 2 and 3 and they all contributed in getting "points" of the overall quality of the dominoes. So this is a hint that Lamping isnt the worst at some categories, plus I also consider its entire lifespan. Remember Lamping began in 2008 and the first frayed edges were about 2015 which means she really did have a good record for years. I cannot undermine the great quality the older collection had, which of course isn't a 100% reflection on what it is today, but I still consider a little bit of that. Plus my biggest point which I also find very important, look at how many Lampings are used in big events. You have DDT (500k), CDT(300k), SDE (600k), TPT (200k), ADA (200k), WDT (150k) and I can name so many more european teams and this already shows almost 2.000.000 Lampings, yes 2 million dominoes! So considering how many she did sell and have been used in succesfull domino events, just adds up to its overall rating. Especially the recent events which undoubtedly will have frayed edges or some bended dominoes but again when buying 1000 it isnt more than 10-20 that are really bad. Of course, some other brands feel better in the hand or show a bit more quality but people keep buying Lamping nonetheless, even from outside of EU sometimes. For example the biggest project with bulks is 250k and Lampings have been used in projects like the paraguay commercial, Turkey record (another 300k) and WR circle field (90k) in the UAE. It is of course because Lamping has been there the longest, that she sold the most (that I am sure of), but still it shows that those dominoes have been used so many times and in many great projects which you cant cast aside as it isnt the best quality. Only Domino Day stones have been produced way more in the millions but I have already seen on many things that the DD stones are really really not well made. I personally have even build a small line for DD2007 and the dominoes almost fell by itself because of the dirt on the ground. The dominoes arent stable and the slightest breeze of sneese already knocks them which I dont see happening with the other brands. So taking the history of Lamping and knowing how many have been used, I grand them a little better rating than what it is today, and like I said to others, she is already improving in recent months. I would never consider them S grade, but compared to the ones on grade B, I can grand them grade A. I fully agree on the shiny/matte thing. I cannot stand the shiny side of the Lampings or recent colors like lightgreen. Its just so different to what it was and slowly new producers are starting which I think will influence the buyer a bit, which of course is why I made this video to make people aware that there are more options now. Lamping deserves gratitude, but also competition to indeed relate to its quality. Hope this gives a bit of clarification on my tier list haha. I should have elaborated more in the video, but believe me, part 2 and 3 will show a bit more why it ranks as this.

    @@Wdomino I totally understand your position, but for someone who needs a large quantity of dominoes NOW (like me) the quality of Lampings in the past doesn't help them. I really would like to see and feel a couple of the "old" Lampings one day. I bought 20.000 Lampings a year ago. After spending 200€ for a few Bulk dominoes the Lamping dominoes felt like crap. You're right about getting rid of the frayed edges not being a problem as long you don't have to do it with tens of thousands of dominoes. In the end I calculated that my "salary" for doing that was below 10€ an hour. I switched to Bulk, but now Don Domino (thank you for mentioning them!) is my new favourite considering quality and the price for us in Europe, especially after the recent price increase of more than 10% with Bulk.

  • @JochemAarns

    @JochemAarns

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@Wdomino Thanks for your response! Don't get me wrong, but I disagree haha. I get that big events use a lot of Lampings. But I think the reason for that is simple: the price. It's a decision you make as a organization: quality versus price. I think your reasoning for that is a little short-sighted to be honest. You mentioned you find DD stones not really well made, because they aren't stable. But you said it's because of the dirt on the floor...? It's quite logical to me that dominoes are unstable when there is dust on the floor, you can't blame the brand for that. My experience with DD stones is that they are super stable. But our experiences could differ of course. Of course we cannot ignore the fact that those hundreds of thousands of Lamping stones are used in big events, but I personally would rather build with DD stones (or Bulk, DonDomino, but I have no experience with them) than with Lamping in big events. Again I love the review videos! Our experience could differ. No hard feelings at all :D

    Honestly, I would not recommend Lamping at this point straight up. Just purchased my first 500 "professional" dominoes from them and, honestly, I'm gonna keep using Domino Express stones until I get some from Don Domino. The quality of them are horrible. I'd say around 80% of them have REALLY rough edges to the point where a lot of them struggle to stand up and some won't even do unless you flatten the edges a little. They also arrived super dirty, super scratched, the bigger sides are concave and the dominoes are not only inconsistent in color but also in material? I know they might look appealing because they're literally less than half of the price of the next professional domino brand (Not counting the Taobao ones because of the measurements). But seriously, they're worth nothing. Domino Express stones have better build quality and consistency IMO

With Lamping it really depends on when you buy them, sometimes its 20 out of 1000, other times 200 out of 1000 that are having the edges. Its really unfortunate because Lamping used to be much much better. It did have the reputation for more years to be thé domino brand instead of these recent years with decreased quality. In the end though, Lamping never really focused on the domino market (because it didnt exist when she started), while other brands now really do take a look on the quality. With domino express there remains one big difference and thats the hollow type dominoes which never makes straigt lines so that is why I consider them to be child-brands. I understand your thoughts on those, but examples like Don Domino, Bulk and H5, altough more expensive than domino express, are the step towards real domino art with much more colors and possibilities.

    @@Wdomino Yeah, I will buy Don Domino in the future, but in the meantime I'm gonna keep using the Domino Express ones I already have, though I don't plan on buying more of them xD

    @@greentd Indeed, lamping was the first on the market. Of course "domino day" had the first dominoes but not for sale.
