WORLD RECORD Kapla Tower Collapse (*BREATHTAKING*)
Ойын-сауық
18 builders spent 4 days attempting to break the World Record for the tallest tower made of wooden toy blocks! This 25m-tall (82ft) tower contains 100,000 Kapla planks and was designed by @KaplaBen, who organized this world record project. Watch the behind the scenes here: • *Collapsing* the World...
Watch the official falldown edit on @KaplaBen's channel: • The World Tallest Kapl...
Special thanks to Kapla and Olympia London for supporting this World Record attempt, Anna and Richard for the event organization/logistics, and the film crew (Robert, David and Tristan) for capturing incredible shots of this project.

I'm in awe at the engineering involved and the teamwork! Congratulations!
When you are using wood (especially unsealed) and build that high, you will see movement because wood changes dimensions as it absorbs or releases water with the air in the environment. In dry air, wood will shrink, and in humor air, it will expand. In a tall tower like that, especially with untreated wood, those changes in humidity and temperatures will be noticed. Your tower was a hygrometer. Beautiful episode!

Amazing video! It was an honor to work with you, KaplaBen and all the other talented builders on this project. You did a great job highlighting the challenges during the construction, especially the lift door falling onto the structure and the blocks buckling in the latter half of the tower. This was certainly one of the hardest builds I’ve ever worked on and I’m glad it worked so well.
That catastrophically beautiful. What a structure, amazing.

Was great! It was nice to meet so many cool people over those weeks! Looking forward to future events like this one!
Absolutely incredible. I don't know if I've ever seen anything this impressive.
*I think the fact that it was designed in such a way as to fall down so perfectly and completely was at least as impressive as building it in the first place!* *Kudos to everyone involved! Very well done!*
These people have a lot of free time to do such things. Also not only putting all those wooden planks together is breathtaking but also each wooden piece needs to crafted very carefully so that any uneven pieces among them do not destabilize the whole structure and collapse without external disturbances.
Amazing project, amazing team - lots of organization and a great great great outcome 🎉 Congratulations to the build team and everyone involved 🎉🎉🎉
I think maybe the wood itself was actually starting to deform and maybe humidity was causing some swelling effects as well. Something like that probably.
@davidmartensson273
11 ай бұрын
I was going to suggest the same, humidity could both deform and increase weight triggering the effect and if there was a slight draft the humidity could be more on one side preventing it from evening out.
@pegjames188

Or the effect of the Earths rotation, in I seem to recall the Natural History Museum it was many years ago, there was a pendulum of a similar height to the tower that never ceased moving showing the effect.
The way you got it to collapse up and then back down was impressive.
The tower was designed and built by the KAPLA Lyon Center. It took 16 hours to build and used 9,384 KAPLA planks. It is 18.40 meters (60 feet 4.41 inches) high! The structure was built next to the climbing wall in the Azium leisure centre. "KAPLA" is an abbreviated form of the Dutch phrase "kabouter plankjes," which means "Gnome Planks."
Huge kudos to everyone in the building team for breaking the world record. See you maybe next year to break it again ? :)

LOL, they accomplished nothing. They should be out earning a living somewhere instead of playing with blocks.
WHAT an incredible design! I love the spiraling relief! Knocking something as beautiful as that down seems like a tragedy. The accuracy with which those wood blocks are cut - perfectly flat, with perfect 90 deg sides - is impressive. With that many blocks, tiny errors could add up, and the thing could end up leaning just a bit.
Whoa and wow!! What an incredible piece of performance art and world record! The planning and precision required is literally awesome, and you should all be insanely proud of this for the rest of your lives. Insane. Wonderful. Off to watch the behind the scenes!
Saw the live stream, that thing came down with such an amazing force. And the joy of people colliding in the aftermath made it such a great thing to see from one angle. This video gives it even more of an amazing perspective!

I completely agree! Whenever you see someone doing something they truly are passionate about, they are spreading their joy and love to others. Accomplishing goals that we set have a way of inspiring others to do the same. It creates strong connections and bonds, it creates community. Within communities we grow in our ability to empathize and be compassionate towards each other. I would argue that if every single living being on this earth followed their heart and found where they felt most at home, that would solve a great deal of the world's problems. I sincerely hope you find yours, because life gets better than shitting on some young adults in the comment section. Spread love 🙏'
The shifting of the entire tower is likely due to either "working" of the kapla blocks due to changes in humidity or compression of the most heavily loaded blocks at the base of the tower. Most probably a combination of both.
Incredible build and topple
4:03 Interesting effect. Where the planks fall in close proximity to each other, their terminal velocit increases and they fall faster than the bricks which separated from the cluster.

The overnight movement came from "humidity". Wood breathes, and throughout the day/evening will experience different moisture contents. Log homes experience this all the time, so they need special fasteners, roofing structures, and log alignment to keep things aligned.... or pieces not aligned but moving in tandem.

Very cool video! I am curious what the total weight of the structure was? Also are the Kapla planks able to be reused after the collapse?
@ericfichon5988
6 ай бұрын
According to an online website which sells them, one plank weighs 6.5 grams, and they told in the video that they used 100,000 of them. So that's around 650 kg. You definitely wouldn't want them to fall on you.
Hi love ur videos ❤ edit: yoooo I’m 3rd 🥉
its crazy how much architecture goes into this, imagine you need to calculate the weight that is pushing on the bottom of the tower, its crazy that this is possible. great work its so cool
Congratulations, that was amazing. Beautiful design. Even watching the construction gave me anxiety, can't imagine how it must have felt actually doing it!
Very impressive. I cannot imagine all the delicate skills needed from 18-people building a 25m "domino" structure.

WOW !!! THIS WAS HUMBLING TO WATCH !!! IMPRESSIVE. THE PATIENCE & SKILL TO BUILD THIS IS INSPIRING.
the completed tower was amazing but the collapse of it falling perfectly straight down makes it that much more epic!
I keep saying I’m not interested in this channel but it continues to pop up on my homepage. Nothing personal.
This was amazing! Fun to watch
Hey!! Wow!! but only 4.37min??? you are WAY TO HUMBLE!! this is easily a 25min video,, planning, ordering, the collapse mechanism, the safety mechanism,,,,, etc!! SOOOOOOO COOOOOLLLLLLL
We have a small set of these building blocks, I'm blown away by how big and elaborate that tower is! I knew they were good building blocks, but I didn't know they were *that* good!
I am totally incapable of stacking blocks because I get more and more nervous. Even as a child, I had difficulty doing careful precision work except drawing and calligraphy. I think it's something to do with being a toddler in a family of teenagers who constantly picked, poked, teased, hassled and in general made me terrified of doing anything without being humiliated. If I imbibe something to calm my nerves, I can usually overcome this, but not always.... teenage brothers especially can ruin a shy child's confidence for the whole of their life...
What an achievement to build, not to mention the orchestrated collapse! Phenomenal!
"One of the greatest artistic feats of our lifetime" definitely made me chuckle.
The mixed feelings when watching it toppling down made my heartbeat running wild and inconsistent, with many thoughts flashing through my mind.
the amount of discipline and focus is really amazing
that's incredible! I don't think I could work on a project like this. my nerves wouldn't handle it 😅
Inspiration, design, creation, destruction. Perfect. :)
WOW!!!! I like how the boxes did a drum roll; nice touch.
