Facebook ads are the only paid advertising I use to promote my music on Spotify. And when it comes to Facebook ads, I specifically use two types of campaigns: a growth campaign and a release campaign.
This is the breakdown of each campaign type, how they differ, and what they accomplish.

    Hey Tom, This is a helpful breakdown. Thank you! What do your ads look like, are they all video? I've found a ton of videos on here that talk to IG and youtube growth hacks but not many about facebook. Or do the ads run mostly on IG and are tracked through FB ads? I'm just starting out but have tons of new music coming out this year! Thanks in advance :D

    Hey Tom, thanks for all the awesome video as always. One question, your release campaign, on the ad level, it links to toneden right? I know you always release one single but in my case, I normally either release an EP, an Album, or a single with some acoustic or remix. So my question is, should I have toneden link to the single (the song link) or the whole album/ep link? I know in Growth campaigns, artist link is always best, but I have no idea for an ep/single/album with multiple tracks. And an harder question, how would you figure out what song would make a better single.

    Hey Tom, amazing video. What would you suggest in the growth campaign as the release campaign is active? Do I advertise the same song I just released? or the song ive been previously advertising in the growth campaign? Or do you suggest I play solely by the numbers and which ad-set is performing better? Thanks!

  • @tomdupreeiii

    I would go with whichever one is performing better. During the first week of release I would keep your current ads going in addition to the new song’s ads. After that you can turn off the ones that aren’t working as well.

    Another great video!! Thank you. If you're targeting the same audience in both growth and release campaigns, is there a possibility that you're bidding against yourself for placement and therefore unintentionally driving up the price?

  • @tomdupreeiii

    @tomdupreeiii

    At the amount I'm spending, it's very unlikely I'm hitting anyone more than once or twice at most, so I think that overlap is negligible. That will only be a factor with much more narrow targeting and higher ad spend. Great question!

    @@tomdupreeiii Got it! Yeah I watched some of your other videos and set up a conversion campaign, which I'm now running. Already starting to get some good data. Exciting/interesting stuff! One thing I'm noticing is that I get way way way better results running ads on feeds rather than stories ($0.21 CPC vs $0.90 CPC, though it's still early at this point). That might have to do with the genre of music I make, which might appeal to people on desktops moreso than mobile (like, heavily digital stuff generally without vocals, perhaps for nerdy types like myself, ha). Anyway, again, much appreciated for these videos, they are incredibly helpful! ❤

    There are so many factors that go into it that it's really not possible to give a "one-size-fits-all" answer to that. Things like genre, song, targeting, and location all play a factor. Different countries pay out wildly differing amounts per stream, and no two songs perform the same. I wish I could give a concrete answer to that question.

For instance, I've been running ads to Spotify for my last two single releases and for a while I didn't have a "fans also like" page. Last week my "fans also like" page showed up on my Spotify profile but a lot (not all but a lot) of the artists are nothing like my kind of music and after doing some digging, these other artists have a lot of the exact same related artists as me. This makes me think there's some bot traffic going on... I've been feeding my ads to all Spotify countries except India. Has anyone had issues like this before?
