The Truth Behind Rolex's 70/30 Rule: Latest Insights from Authorized Dealers
💎 Today, we're diving into a little-known secret that might just change the way you see those high-end Rolex showrooms. Have you ever walked into one, taken a look around, and thought, "Why are there so many elegant Datejusts and barely any of those badass sports watches everyone's after?" Well, it turns out there's a method to the madness, and it's wrapped up in what's dubbed the Rolex 70/30 rule. Basically, for every 70 more formal, non-steel pieces like the sleek Oyster Perpetual that fly off the shelves, Rolex gives the green light to the dealer to bring in 30 of those elusive sports models.
💼 So, you're thinking about getting a Rolex, right? Well, stepping into the world of these iconic watches can feel a bit overwhelming. But, fear not, because that's exactly where authorized Rolex retailers come into the picture. They're your personal guides in the luxury watch universe. They've got the skills, the knowledge, and all the insider info to help you sift through the options, understand the nitty-gritty of each piece, and make a choice that you're going to be proud of for a long, long time.
🛍️ Obviously, Rolex is pretty selective about who gets to represent their brand. These authorized retailers, or as they're officially known, ORRs, are given the nod to showcase and sell Rolex watches, promising to keep the luxe and glory of the brand shining, no matter their location. However, Rolex keeps a tight lid on the number of these authorized hotspots to ensure that exclusivity and excellence remain the name of the game.
📦 When it comes to stocking up on those shiny Rolex watches every year, dealers have to follow a pretty specific playbook for ordering from Rolex. Basically, they're at the mercy of whatever Rolex decides to send their way.

So basically, I can’t buy a Rolex from an AD. But, I can go buy a brand new Rolex on the over flooded gray market at a 40% mark up? Hmmm… if they’re so picky about who they sell to, how do these end up on the gray market?

The Rolex rules kind of suck the life out of the process, not in a good way. 😂
So many far better brands out there that don’t play these sorts of games.
There are no "yearly" deliveries. Every 3-6 weeks is the schedule.
Thanks for this insightful sharing... other than the sports model, how about those models like oyster perpetual or datejust with white dials? Does Rolex also allocate them? As for the AD, do they also choose the customers to purchase these not so popular models? Can we just walk in and purchase? Thanks for your advice, appreciated

I know 3 people who bought subs, explorers two tone datejust and were promised to be put on the list for the gmt master and Daytona. It’s been a few years and still they do not have them.

The analysis of Rolex's 70/30 rule sheds light on the intricate dynamics between the luxury brand and its authorized dealers, offering valuable insights into their relationship dynamics and business strategies.
I used to think of rolex as my "I Made it" piece but as I got older I started to dislike the brand due to their business practices and their mindset as a company. Ill happily walk into Omega and buy the exact watch I want that day. Also many other companies offer more bang per buck.
I picked up my Wimbledon 2 days ago and feel super blessed, now time to wait for the bat girl haha
Rolex watches is the one of the best watches I love it❤
I love everything about Rolex, it's a luxury brand and I love how exclusive it is... It has stand the test of time, I love you guys so much

Only in the world of Rolex is a purchase order not a purchase order! If I understand the process mentioned in this video, the AD sends a P.O. into Rolex, and Rolex sends the AD whatever Rolex wants to deliver. I am not sure how the Rolex accounting system works, but I worked for several companies in the technology world and the P.O. has to match the invoice precisely. So if Rolex is allowed to ship whatever they want without the invoice matching the AD's P.O., I can't imagine how the AD could ever pass an audit. Maybe a CPA watching this video can explain it.
There is no list in Rolex boutiques, how you can get one? Make a personal relationship with the manager, if you get his personal cel number you’re in the right direction and text him no so often if your are lucky enough you can go pick up one in 3 to 5 years. In ten days I will go pick my new submariner in a Rolex boutique, no purchase history with them and being a foreigner, that is how I did it. Good luck!!!
Rolex aficionados have long been fascinated by the enigmatic "70/30 Rule," purportedly governing how authorized dealers distribute their inventory.
That videos watch is a mere imitation, not a real clone. Ziarex replica watches are on next level.
I watched another video from a former Rolex salesman. He said that the waiting list is fake. The Rolex retailer is going to take the information and do a background search on you to find what kind of buyer you are to look for all the red flags. He said every week at the Hawaii store that he worked at had new inventory coming in weekly. Rolex salespersons work in an industry where they are told to lie to clients. No one can trust what the salesman is going to tell you.

Correct, and agree, even in this clip contradictions exist that the dealer has no idea of what is coming in! Okay exact models is understood but what happens to the 70/30 rule…30 percent is steel !!! Rolex wants to move to less steel and go to precious metals so white gold may be what they do to solve their ‘problem’ and just take the premium of $30k+ for a white gold Daytona since Rolex Skydweller is white gold only for that color, no stainless steel anymore.
Thanks for this video very informative.
Thank you for sharing informative video it's really good and amazing
all true, except the part where you have spent a lot of money and can get moved up on the "list", nope, just the opposite.
They could fix this problem if they really wanted to, even destroy the gray market sales with just one change. 1-Customer goes to store and place the order of what they want 2- The Authorized Dealer place the order that day and get a delivery date from Rolex right on the spot (even if it’s 3 years away). 3- The customer puts the deposit (let’s say 20%) that day. 4- Watch arrives 3 years later and customer either pays the amount owed or declines the watch and gets deposit back.5- If customer backs out now the Authorized Dealer has a watch that he can sell right now to anyone. This process will killed the Rolex gray market, no watch flipper is going to wait 2-3 years to get a Rolex so they can flip it for profit. The customer also wins because now he/she knows they can get a Rolex they want at MSRP without having to buy a bunch of other undesirable watches o jewelry to be worthy of been added to the Authorized Dealers fake list.

There is not a shortage of Rolex...Teddy B just did a video of the top 10 by sales volume and Rolex was number one with over a million units produced per year, Omega was like 800,000 produced per year. You don't have to wait on the Omegas...but you do on the Rolex, why? Because dealers are selling above retail price to gray market dealers...bypassing you, the one who wants to purchase the watch.
Crazy idea, Rolex shuts down the AD business model. Think like Apple, have Rolex stores.
Rolex main bread and butter has always been in two tone and full precious metal watches, and women's watches. Fluted Date Just and above are more expensive than basic oyster steel sport Rolex. So it's always been 70/30 at Rolex. We see it more now since 2015 because Rolex gained a younger client based (global) demographic. 10-20 years ago the average Rolex client were older men and women. It was the watch brand you buy when you reach a certain mature age and accomplish a professional goal, or retirement. Now the online awareness to the brand only adds to the hype for entry level steel sport Rolex. New watch enthusiast of today (people who just started 5-10 years ago) are all about sport diver watches. Rolex for over 70 years were more about a water proof dress timepieces. The Submariners and Daytona's use to be the entry level Rolex watches of the 60's 70's 80's and to an extent the 90's. Back in the day if you want a Rolex, you aspire to get a Day Date or Date Just. The Sub's and Daytona's were the watches you get at a discount when you buy the wife jewelry. Or if you were a working class guy that knows Rolex quality/durability but didn't care for flashy gold expensive dress watches. Steel sports Rolex were the beater watches of back then. My dad was a life long steel worker machinist by trade. He rocked his 5513 Submariner everyday to work since 1968 until he retired 12 years ago (Original dial). He was offered so many Date Just and Day Date watches throughout the years. He was GIVEN a 1972 Daytona back in the day when he bought my mom some earrings from his jeweler. That POS shitter broke and it cost him more to repair than it was worth. Still owns it BTW, and yes that watch feels like a Seiko 5. Go figure the hype watch...
This Rolex watch is on of best brand we really like it we really love it this is fantastic watch Rolex modal watch is superior watch Thay neww brand everyone buy it because their quality is fantas

This was so insightful and worth coming across, love how well you explained
Great and informative video exploring useful information about Rolex watches much appreciated
Look Rolex has watches BUT they will not sell it to you. They keep selling it to the flippers because the flippers have large amounts of cash and buy indiscriminately. I have bought what I like on the grey market. I will NOT let anyone tell me that I cannot find a particularly watch because I am not worthy in Rolex’s eyes. GO TO HELL to the AD. Rolex is like Hermes and I am disappointed. I would like to go through the experience at buying at a dealer eventually???
This is absolutely amazing this video has unwrapped everything about this rolex 70/30 rule. I'm really glad you shared this information with us.
Rolex is just basically a wristwatch that tells you the time & date, why not invest your life pleasing God & do kind things to others, it's just a small piece of metal, save your soul not money to buy a piece of watch 🤣🤣🤣✌️✌️✌️❤❤❤ buy 3 G-shock it will last you a lifetime😂
Insightful analysis! Understanding Rolex's 70/30 rule sheds light on the brand's exclusivity strategy and the dynamics between authorized dealers and collectors. Fascinating to see how it impacts the luxury watch market."
