Your videos are something that I look forward to
This video was a really great and honest insight, for a first year student aspiring to be in one of the big 4s and trying to understand how the corporate ladder works and how to move up on them, each of your videos have been very helpful. Thanks a lot james!

I'm surprised office politics weren't on here? I'm only in my second year, and that aspect of the job is really draining (Big 4 outside of London)

There’s politics in every organization. That can never be eliminated at all. And by the way, politics could be much worse in in the industry.
Man, after watching this one, I am eager to know what's coming next
Hi! Ive watched your video before going to my big 4 interviews and would like to thank you so much as your video definitely helped me prep. I got both ey and pwc and am in dilemma on which are the right one for me. May i know what you’d suggest i should put as a factor in deciding which company i’d be joining?

Thats great to hear Nurshafiqa, you smashed it! In terms of choosing between PwC and EY, what industries are you more interested in, (e.g. Pharma, technology, FMCG) and what are your longer-term goals? Did you get a place in the audit/assurance department?
Keep up the excellent work. This was an exceptional video from you
good work

Have there been instances where first year staff barely got any work assigned to them during busy season?
How fluid is it to move between different service lines, e.g. audit to tax, in the Big4?
@JamesAlberts
2 жыл бұрын
Hey James, I'd say fairly fluid. Each year there is an internal 'Transfer Window' in which the firm opens up opportunities to move into other lines of service (e.g. audit, tax, consulting, deals). However, spaces are limited, and you need to go through an interview process etc., so it can be quite competitive!
Great video bro, take it another video subject: "What is the difference between audit and accounting?"

Thanks mate - I'll add it to the list!
I am not target these organisations..... I need work life balance this is my priority right now...
Given the cons, do you think it's still worth joining the big 4 as a graduate?
@JamesAlberts

100%, you gain such a vast amount of experience in such a short space of time. Overall, in my view, it's a great place to start your career!
Does the salary change across big 4 division say audit pay less then consulting etc.
@JamesAlberts
2 жыл бұрын
Hey! Aaron-Jerome, great question. Yes it does, typically audit is the lowest paid division. Depending on the firm it can be up to 10% less on base salary with consulting/corporate finance paid more. Let me know if you have any other questions!
I would really like to know which school you attended in the UK ? 😊 I am from France and I am about to start the audit 3 year program of Paris Dauphine 😉

@@JamesAlberts I know your university but I have no idea how it is ranked compared to LSE or other very renowned institutions in the UK ! Basically I got into Dauphine right after the equivalent of A levels in France ! I mostly studied economics and mathematics and now I am on the path of the big 4 😂 ! I have no idea how the first wage is determined in the uk within big 4 but in France it is only based on your university ! In France dauphine graduates have the second or third depending the big 4 best wage ! Pretty correct I would say !

If I had one question it would be : how easy it is for someone who have done its whole studies abroad and starts to work in a big 4 in France to be able to come work in London ? 😄
@JamesAlberts
2 жыл бұрын
@@alexandreriboton9136 I would say it's very easy, I work with a lot of individuals from other countries. My current team only has two people from the UK, and everyone else is from Greece, Germany, South Africa, India. Typically, you'll need to qualify as an accountant in France first, then you'll be able to transfer to London. Let me know if you have any other questions!
@JamesAlberts
2 жыл бұрын
@@alexandreriboton9136 It's not ranked as high as LSE. Salary in the UK is set regardless of university, so graduates of LSE/Oxford will be paid the same as elsewhere. It sounds like you are doing really well, so continue making good progress so you can join the BIG 4! Let me know if you have any other questions.
How easy is it to move offices in the Big 4?
@JamesAlberts
2 жыл бұрын
If you're moving within the same country - fairly easy! If you're looking for international secondments it will be slightly harder and depend on your job performance. Happy to have a call and talk you through it if it helps!
I thought only in the Philippines that we had been working 80-90 hrs per week. Lol. Its the same issues even in western countries especially in UK.
