Landing my first job in private sector, I used to beat myself up not being able to get into big 4s and felt like a failure... But after finding out how much $ my big 4s friends made and the long hours they have to work, i was like mehhh, no thanks. My starting salary in private sector was $10k more than big 4s new grads’. Also, I have a great work-life balance, learned so many things, and got so many great opportunities. 4 years after graduating, I was able to make 6 figures, quicker than my public accounting friends, and still work less hours than they do. Words to accounting grads out there - if you get into big 4s, great! If not, it is not the only way to success (dont let anyone in school brainwash you w that idea).

63k as a senior auditor, the GL accountant at my company is making 85k, 100k for the AR “manager” who barely knows accounting. Your skill level after big 4 will put you above most accounting roles and can get you really good pay. Regardless accounting work will still suck and you are still an expense to your company. My role is senior FA at 125k in the bay and i’m still on the low side too.

Hi, I stumbled across your channel accidently through the algorithm but this video is exactly what I needed to reaffirm my beliefs of the Big 4 and IT service sector. I have personally faced all the challenges that you mentioned in my 2 years at LTI as a IT engineer and I can concur to that 100%. Besides your working preferences is nearly as similar to mine which makes it very difficult to survive and stay content with the job in such service industry with really toxic work environments where client ass-kissing is the norm and they literally pay peanuts .There is no peace of mind in these sort of companies even if the pay is good. As Paulo Coelho says "Any thing that costs you your peace is too expensive" and since the day I resigned from the company I have regained my freedom back and haven't felt an ounce of regret .It was the best decision I made and the beautiful smile is back on my face :)Many Thanks for the video .Peace!

With how hard you need to work to get your license, you’d expect a better life after getting it but nah. Almost everyone in my batch shifted to different jobs after working in a firm for about 3 years. Some transferred to private companies cos the pay is better. Some pursued Law. Some went to culinary or pilot school. Some opened up a business.

I always keep hearing salaries are higher in the USA but 63k as an EA seems very low especially given cost of living in LA. On glass door/reddit I’m seeing for Chicago for example EA salaries of 65k. 2200 for rent seems crazy though. What kind of place do you reside in? Do you think one can rent a dec room for much cheaper?

I've done national and big 4. Preferred big 4, more interesting work, national work was very boring and they often didn't do proper audits. Just my opinion / experience - maybe other national firms are better but that was my experience. Better to go to industry than national in my opinion.

@@tom7784 Individual experiences vary. I got fired from Armanino in a way that surprised me. Then I went to Crowe and quit when I got PIP'ed and it was obviously not going to end well. Got fired again from Farmers and now I'm at DCAA.

Can anyone share their experiences, and maybe some tips, with the US Tax team at PwC? I am planning to apply for the US Tax Associate position which is an entry level position. I am reluctant to continue since I am not very knowledgeable with Taxation.
