The Truth About Where Our Meat Comes From! Butchering the GOATS

it's the time of year that most homesteads are filling their freezer with meat. This year we are butchering three of our Kiko meat goats. I show how much meat we got back from three of the goats we raised on our farm this year.

Quite a few years ago I raised goats, ducks, geese, chickens and even did a cow on three acres. I was sceptical of eating goat but after doing it I loved it. We had friends over for burgers who claimed they would never eat it and I neglected to tell them we were serving goat. Decided to bluff it out and they raved about how good the burgers were. They would never have known except my kids couldn't help but tell them after dinner. Humor on the farm.

Hi Daniel. I understand about raising meat goats. The first time I had goat was back in 1982. I was dating a police officer, and he took me to a party. Someone had made a large pot of curried goat. Let me tell you...IT WAS DELICIOUS! She said her parents owned a small farm and they raised Boar(sp?) goats for meat. I guess they were homesteaders outside of Cleveland. Anyway...everytime I go back, she tries to have some for me. My family turn their noses up at it. My daughter says "how can you like goats so much and still eat them?" I tell her because they are so cute, and I want goats as pets when I retire (milk goats) and maybe have one butchered yearly that is for food. I like chickens too...but I'll still eat 'em :)

They were purpose raised and unless you're a vegetarian, the meat you eat was raised and slaughtered. The difference is, you don't know how it was treated or what it was fed.

I couldn’t kill my babies just because I got so attached to all of them, but I am going to make milk, cheese, and soap off of them hopefully! 🤞🏼 but I don’t understand why people get so upset about people killing animals. Most people especially where I’m from buy animals to raise them up and either kill them for meat or use them for things such as milk, cheese, soap, etc! Definitely nothing wrong with feeding your family

Landon Claeary That's a brilliant question you pose there. Who is the idiot of which I refer? Let's step back, take a deep breath, and think this thing over. First off, we see this guy comes out of the gate asking " how could you" ....The entire 11min 29sec video was solely devoted to answer that one question. That was exactly how he could do it!!! So there's our first sign of idiocy.....missing the neon sign saying this is how I do this! Next we see that the subjects of the video are called "baby" goats by said idiot. These goats were virtually full grown although still young. The equivalent of teenagers of the goat world....these goats would view such a one with pure distain that would call them babies!! So there's our second sign of idiocy. So with an 0 & 2 count, the third and last pitch comes to the plate....... and wow!!! Said idiot doesn't know why he subscribed to the currently watched channel!! Well lets see if we can figure this out. He was held at gunpoint and forced to subscribe.....no.....that's not it. Wait....while he was distracted by a door to door salesman an alien from outer space hit the subscribe button and ........no.....that's not it. Hmmmm Would it be possible that said idiot hit the subscribe button with his own finger...on his own accord, under his own power? And folks we have a winner!!!! Said idiot knowingly subscribed to a channel devoted to farm life, hunting, and feeding the family through natural methods! Yes Mr Landon...You and you alone are the idiot in question. It was quite a feat to get three undeniable strikes in such a small couple of questions....but somehow you managed!!! So congratulations Mr idiot! There are currently 53 responses to your brilliant comment.... mostly due to the fact that it was pinned to the top by the one I referred to as a genius. It wasn't pinned there because of its stellar quality.....but rather because it was so unbelievably out of touch with reality and reason! It was a textbook poster child of idiocy. I've never seen the worst and dumbest comment pinned before....but it was a brilliant move that put the spotlight on the idiot of the day!! YOU!!!!!!!!

After I’d finished my meal, they asked if I knew what I’d eaten. It didn’t matter, it was really good. They figured a city girl wouldn’t like it. 😁

We have eaten goat and it’s very good. We roasted a leg, similar to leg of lamb. I did marinade it with lime and garlic overnight. Your chops would probably be good that way. Carnitas spice mix would also work on them. Goat is used in a lot of Mexican cooking. Good information on the carcass breakdown. Thank you.

There is something very different about knowing how one's livestock was raised and fed before the animals are eventually processed. Last Eid al-Fitr, I brought my family the meat of 2 goats that I looked after and eventually slaughtered and they couldn't believe the flavor and quality of it (they normally don't eat goat). I appreciate your videos and I hope that you continue. You've made me want to have a homestead of my own.

From NZ - I shot feral and escaped farm goats, mostly for working dog meat, but the best I kept (and/or shared) for making stews and curries. Absolutely wonderful! Tasty, but not strong, and very low in fat. I tried roasting goat, but it wasn't right. Reading other comments made me realise I could have done so much more with the meat.

If my math is right that's 4 bucks a lb, not counting the raising cost. When you consider that steaks are a lot more than that, and full of hormones and anti-biotics, its either close to same cost or slightly cheaper for 100% higher quality meat.

I'm new to the channel, but I have chickens butchered every year because of 4h. Nothing more satisfying then raising your own food. 6 always go to auction for someone, and the rest stay on the farm and are sent later to fill our own freezer or a relative.

This is why we raise our own Meat. It’s not about the $ we “Save” raising our own meat. But we know what it eats, how it lived... and Yes it is still a very “reasonable” price for meat when you compare it to similar quality meat you could buy. We raise geese, ducks, turkey, rabbit and chicken for our freezer here and I have Dairy goats. (5 due to freshen in May... That’s A lot of goats for us!) We are planning on having our buck butchered in spring after he’s done breeding our does and isn’t in rut anymore, and keeping and wethering any males born this season. (Not as cost effective as raising a meat breed but I am considering getting a meat buck to use next breeding season on my does) We had goat before from a friend (Boer) and it’s fantastic! we where quoted about $100 to get our guy done... time is a factor for us as well sending him to the butcher vs doing it at home, about the price to have a deer done. Great Video 👍

Great, informative video! I've been waiting for something like this. My breeders consist of two kiko/boer goats (mother and doeling) and two pygmy bucks. Just bred one of the bucks to the mother goat and will breed the other buck to the doeling when she turns one, next April. I'm shootin' for a small meat animal with those stubby dwarf legs that can't sail over fences, lol. With any luck, I'll be processing some kids about this time next year. Your video gives me an idea of what to expect. TFS!

I had goat at an Indian restaurant and loved it. I don't know what it would taste like just as a chop or a burger but the texture was nice. I can see where you'd say it was like venison. It was a little bolder than the corn-fed beef most people are used to, but not gamey at all.

@Landon Claeary, How could you you? Well it's quite simple really. You have a family that needs to eat. You have goats that need a purpose. You raise the goat to feed the family. Win win. That's how. Sorry but how could you is an ignorant question. I have yet to even try goat. Because I live in a suburban area our stores too don't offer it. But I'm just as excited to try it as the Arms Family is. Just knowing the way your food was made, or lived is far more beneficial than walking into a store and hoping you get a good choice of meat. Thanks for the video. Sorry again for the rant.

It is hard to find goat meat, but I find it lean and tasty. Make the chops like lamb chops. Ground goat can be substituted for ground beef. Goat stew or goat curry is great, too! Free-range goats from Daniel’s farm had a great life and are probably better for his family’s health and the health of the planet, compared to store-bought meat. Thanks for sharing the details on the process, cost, and output!

Hello. We had it easier than most. My husband was a ranch butcher and we had two toggenbergs, if I’ve spelled that right. They gave good milk and he raised 2 drop calves on it and they were outstanding veal. Myself I didn’t like goat milk, the kids were ok with it but later didn’t like it. The baby goats (kids) were adorable and my daughter cared for them. Later the neighbors dogs got out and killed both goats and my rabbits. We didn’t bother with raising them or the rabbits after that. We raised some hogs which he butchered. That was a real saving. I enjoyed your video very much. You covered a lot of information very well.
