I’ll add the perspective of someone new to this scary “camera world “ I’ve never had a camera, didn’t know jack squat about lens, PP color grading and etc.. So acquiring and starting to use a ZV-e10 which is a really powerful beast with some big boys features and managing to work around this so called drawbacks(which is the beauty of the camera) it’s not like it’s stopping you from anything, you can achieve insane results, just have to take some extra steps for it to happen. But that’s the perfect learning experience, cause if you manage to tame the little doggie, when you move to better cameras, you don’t rely only on the features, you learned about why those features actually exist, is like using a manual focus vs Autofocus lens, if that made sense, thank you Mark for continuing to deliver such amazing content related to this camera and inspire us small videographers to make it happen with affordable and smart options

About an hour after I ordered my ZV-E10 the “shutter roll” videos started to pop up! Your videos re-assured me. I’ve had the camera a while now (after an M50) and I’m loving it more and more. I have found that the combination of the ZV-E10 and a Gopro is a great combination for travelling. Thanks for all the great positive videos.

@RobbotheHighlander I ordered my ZV-E10 today. I was really anxious about buying a "decent" camera when a "great" one was available for a comparable price. Thanks in large part to Mark's videos I was able to order it without being worried! I love that you say it's a good pairing with a GoPro because that's what I'm looking to supplement! Definitely not looking to get rid of my GoPro... It'll certainly have its uses. But I wanted a better main camera for on a tripod.

You always need to take KZread videos with a grain of salt. It is the nature of KZread that controversial videos do better, so too many KZreadrs exaggerate problems just for views. Sure, rolling shutter is not great, but we tend to gently pan from side to side because whiplash movements just don't look good. There are some high speed actions where rolling shutter can become apparent, but that mostly affects sports videographers, and they are not shooting with these kinds of cameras anyway. In the real world, with normal videography techniques, rolling shutter with these cameras is not a big problem. A combination of the ZV-E10 and a GoPro is an excellent bit of kit that will get you great footage. The GoPro features nicely complement the ZV-E10. Both cameras can do things that the other can't. Together they will be magic for you. And don't worry about exaggerated problems in KZread videos.

I have the E10 since a while now and I agree with everything Mark says in the video, but there's something about the streaming I want to point out because it might be useful for other people interested on it. The first time I tried usb streaming with it I was dissapointed: besides the low resolution, the quality of the image itself was actually not good. I mean, somewhat better than a cheap webcam, but way worse than a good one (I compared it with my Razer Kiyo). But then I tried using the Elgato 4k stick and... Just wow. Actual 4k resolution, perfect sharp nice image, and since noone streams at 4k, you can downscale to 1080 and it will still totally pro and comparable to high quality productions out there. So if you are interested on this camera for this purpose I think you should consider getting the HDMI stick too, worthy investment.

Very frustrating to match quality and color to main Sony A6600. Terrible low light no focus etc. (I now can't believe I was trying this) Even with the $100 kit lens there is no comparison! This Camera is a modern fully controllable beast. No brainer at $799 with Kit lens. Thank you for the obvious high level of effort you put into your content. @@sriramg5029 As much as I love the 56mm, I’d have to say, get yourself the 30mm. It’s actually the cheapest of the 3 and I think it has to be the most versatile. The ZV-E10 elevated the quality of my videos way more than any other gear purchase I've made, and I absolutely love it. Sure sometimes that stupid mode button makes me want to throw it at a wall when I get to the end of a shoot and realise all my footage was recorded in S&Q mode because I accidentally pressed that button at some point, or the sluggish and oftentimes confusing menu gets in the way of what I'm trying to do - but ultimately it just reliably puts out such fantastic images and I'm continuously blown away by it. 10/10 would ZV-E10 again.

And just for completeness, the Hollyland Lark 150 is too bulky for me. And even more expensive as the Rode. Maybe you have a opinion on this. I really appreciate this video and your honest opinions based upon actual experience with the camera! I've been making an attempt at KZread and so far just been using my GoPro 10. I wanted to upgrade and get a good entry level camera for around a thousand. Initial research made it seem like this one would be a good fit for me as I'm mainly looking for using it with a tripod. Everyone seemed to be sold out of this camera though. No one could get one. I almost ended up buying a used Sony A6000... Thankfully, I found a store in Edmonton that had a few of them. Since then I've watched quite a few of your videos on the ZV-E10 and today I pulled the trigger! For what I do I really like the wide angle of the GoPro so I also picked up a Sony 10-18mm lens that cost as much as the camera itself... Totally stoked for it to arrive. @@KnineLiveZ I love it! It was near perfect for what I needed. I'm in about the worst possible environment for filming. It's dirty - Dust gets everywhere It's noisy - All kinds of background hisses, hums and whirs Bad lighting - Florescent lighting including low, wall mounted units facing in I also needed to be semi discrete about it. So no tripods or anything like that. It's small and very durable so a great fit. The image quality is pretty good considering I'm asking so much of it. I film at 1080p 60fps. It's rather grainy but again... horrible lighting and it's an action camera. It gets hot but I've only had it shut off once. That was after a couple hours of continuous use inside a hot shop. Definitely need 3 batteries with a separate dual battery charger. The image stabilization is pretty good I think! Has definitely helped me out tons. My biggest complaint is it sometimes will record a lot of background static in the audio. But really, for what I ask of it... it's fantastic. It's no main camera that's for sure. But I'll definitely be still using it tons once I get my ZV-E10. I definitely recommend using a separate audio recorder though.

I love the camera, but for my use, I have one annoyance... the HDMI mini out is on the same side as the screen when you are using it to stream or as a webcam (which I do for most of it's use) or when it's flipped out. The ZV-1 has the ports on the opposite side which is great. That's it, that is the only thing bugging me. I love it.

Together with the active crop, approx 1.44x, the 1.23x crop in 4k 30fps is useful sometimes because you get some extra reach. There are numerous idiosyncrasies about this little camera that makes it very endearing. I also find the preamps on them to be both good and very similar (maybe even identical) to my A74 which is useful because it's one less thing to think about!

@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis the zv-e10 is such a great value and a great camera, but personally i dont believe it's a good beginner's camera. this is coming from somebody has been using this camera every day for the past year. not because i necessarily want to but because i work with an online coach and have to share my exercises. as someone who is not necessarily super interested in photography or even videography, this camera has so much to unpack. it's very difficult to see what elements affect the outcome, it is very unintuitive and most importantly time-consuming. i can see the potential in the camera, but because it's so hard for me to find a reference point, it becomes overwhelming and frustrating. i know this is going to sound weird, but i think if somebody understand photography well, they can configure this thing and get so much out of it as opposed to a beginner. i know it sounds very odd, but this is my own observation, i've used other cameras before like the t5i where i shot WAY more on it even through a prime lens as opposed to my current 10-20pz which is way more flexible compared to the prime lens. why?? because on the t5i, it was able to quickly observe and correct and this helped me develop my intuition and understanding much faster. even without understanding any fundamental concepts of photography, i was still able to understand distance and focal range (in a matter of weeks) without any tutorials. i had an issue with the out-of-focus images on the t5i so i thought the zv-e10's auto focus would take me to the next level, but i was totally wrong!! using the zv-e10 it actually set me back despite watching countless hours of research on how to use the thing!! i grew very little despite using it consistently for an entire year. ease of use and usability is very important and something i notice most people dont talk about. having to go in an dial a bunch of settings without really understanding how it effects the image is frustrating. then i have to do it again for a different scenario??? what?! can you see how this is totally frustrating for a beginner? so i leave the stupid thing i auto and HOPE for a good outcome because i need to get things done. not being able to see the real impacts without a viewfinder is no bueno. sure, it's smaller, cheaper (not really, after taxes, i spent about $900 + $800 on the 10-20pz), and it's capable of great image quality, but if i did it again, i would have just stuck with my t5i to get way better this past year. not because the t5i had more bells and whistles like auto-focus , compactness, or 'bang-for-the buck', but because for me it was way more useable; i felt like i was in control of the t5i and getting better at controlling photography and videos. the zv-e10 always felt like a black box. i actually think the zv-e10 is definitely not a beginner's camera and in fact i would argue that the more expensive counterparts like the a7r series is actually EASIER to use not because it's more powerful, but because it has a view finder and PHYSICAL dials that help you quickly control shutter, apture, iso and a better screen to see what you're doing. im moving away from it zv-e10.

Now, I tell ya," began Grandpa Jenkins, the sun casting long, languid shadows behind his rocking chair as his golden dog Bessie nuzzled against his knee. The afternoon buzzed with the sound of cicadas, punctuated by the distant laughter of children playing in their backyard. "This story I'm 'bout to tell ya, it's got a bit of everything. Truth, lies, and a whole lot of nonsense." His rheumy eyes twinkled with mischief as he took a slow sip from his ice-cold lemonade, his gaze fixed on the horizon where the setting sun painted the sky in hues of orange and magenta. "You see, there was this little fella, about yea high," he said, gesturing with his weathered hand. "Lived in the house behind the Johnson kids. Came from a different sort of family, folks called them rednecks, but we don't like labels 'round here." He chuckled softly, his laughter rippling through the tranquil evening air like a pebble thrown into a calm pond. "One day, this kid asked the Johnson boys to throw a whole lot of old timbers over the fence into his parents' yard. The boys, being boys, did as they were asked." "But when the parents saw the mess, they had a fit. I tell ya, it was like a storm had blown through their backyard. And when they asked why, the Johnson boys said the other kid told 'em to. The kid called 'em liars, over and over. 'You lie, you lie, you lie,' he said." Grandpa Jenkins paused, his gaze shifting to Bessie, who lay at his feet, her golden fur shimmering in the fading light. Her eyes, full of wisdom and love, reflected the man who had been her companion for all her years. "Now, it seems a simple tale of children's antics," he mused, his voice adopting a tone of quiet contemplation, as he picked up a small, sleek camera from the table. "This here, the Sony ZV-E10, reminds me of that story." His eyes seemed to look past the confines of his humble abode, into a distant past, a time of innocence and adventure, and then to the camera in his hand. "When this camera first came out, it was all the rage. Everyone was talking about it. It had some great features, like the interchangeable lenses and its portability. But, just like those kids, it too had its tricks." "After 18 months, the truth about the ZV-E10 came out," he continued, his voice barely above a whisper, as though sharing a well-kept secret. "It was not as perfect as it was initially made out to be. The autofocus struggled in low light, and the battery life was quite disappointing. The overheating issue made it less reliable for long shoots." He gave a small chuckle, drawing a parallel. "Just like the kids who learned about the consequences of their actions, the consumers of this camera learned about the truth behind the polished advertisements. But it wasn't all bad." "Even with its faults, the ZV-E10 had its merits. Its compact size and price point made it an excellent entry-level choice for aspiring vloggers. The kids, on their part, had the courage to own up to their mistakes and made amends. In both cases, the truth led to learning and growth." His gaze shifted back to his audience, a smile playing on his lips. "The kids learned the importance of honesty and responsibility, and the camera users learned to look beyond the marketing hype, to understand the true capabilities and limitations of a product before purchasing." He leaned back in his chair, giving the camera an affectionate pat, much like he did with Bessie. "The redneck kid may have been a trickster, but he inadvertently taught those kids a lesson they carried with them for the rest of their lives. Similarly, the Sony ZV-E10, with its imperfections, taught its users a valuable lesson about consumer awareness." As he finished his story, the last rays of the setting sun casting long shadows over the porch, he placed the camera back on the table. "That, my dear, is the strange and marvelous journey of life, and the reality of products in the market. Sometimes, the most profound lessons come from the most unexpected places." And with that, the old man rose from his chair, Bessie at his side, and together they slowly disappeared into the house, leaving behind the wisdom of a tale that would resonate with those who listened.

I own the ZV-1 (pre-ordered through B&H), the ZV-E10 (purchase two months after release), and most recently the ZV-E1 (pre-ordered through B&H). I use the ZV-1 as my overhead camera on boom arm, but I have not used the ZV-E10 nearly as much. That was not what I intended, but circumstances turned out as such. I bought mine with the Kit lens, and was planning on buying a couple of more lenses (wide and tele), but then the ZV-E1 was released, which I will move into my Primary camera slot -so I will see how that works. For video - I still think the the ZV-E10 is a better value video camera than the a6600 even with the price reduction. However, the a6600 is a much better photo camera. Sony just announced there will be a new product on July 12th - so you may want to see what that is before you buy. If you have the Tamron 17-70 - there would be no reason to buy the kit lens in my opinion.

Mark, influenced by you, I picked up the ZV-E10 in December last year. One thing I'd caution people about is how quickly you'll grow out of it/want the creature comforts of full-frame cameras. I've since upgraded to the S5ii. It's such an upgrade in image quality and features it breaks my head. The ZV-E10 is great to learn on or for casual use, but if you're anything like me (and got really into photography and videography almost immediately) you'll be wanting to upgrade ASAP.

And it allowed me to buy a camera on the budget and put my money into lenses. and all also say One point I didn't think I could push it any farther and then I did. so sure full frame better sensor better processor all that would be nice. But u can make it look really grate. Its just a little harder. And then you'll be ready for the good cameras so if you can grade 8 bit you can grade 10 bit better. amongst other factors.
