THE TRUTH ABOUT RAISING OUR CHILDREN IN THE WOODS
As a family living off grid, we have made a deliberate choice to raise our children in this way. My husband and I wanted to give them a childhood filled with adventure and a close connection to nature. We wanted to cultivate important qualities in them, such as curiosity, confidence, resilience, kindness, and contentment, and we believe that living off grid helps to develop these qualities in a profound way.
One of the biggest benefits of living off grid with children has been our close connection to nature. Our children have a natural curiosity and love for exploring the outdoors, and they have developed a strong knowledge of animals and plants. Whether it's taking naps in the great outdoors, playing, having picnics, or working in the garden, we have had some of our most cherished moments as a family outside.
Another benefit is the appreciation of beauty and the understanding of risks that comes with living off grid. Our children have learned to appreciate the simple beauty in the moon, the trees, and the changing seasons, and they understand the risks associated with living in a self-sufficient environment. They are aware of the dangers posed by things like fires, ponds, and sharp brambles, and they have learned to take precautions to keep themselves safe.
Food has also been a big part of our off grid lifestyle, and our children are great eaters. We grow a lot of our food ourselves, and eating together as a family is an important ritual for us. Our children love trying new things and eating fresh, healthy food, and they have a strong appreciation for the food they eat.
Overall, living off grid has brought many benefits to our family and our children. We have created a life filled with love, adventure, and close connection to nature, and we are grateful for the experiences and opportunities that have come our way as a result. Join us on our journey by subscribing.
Thanks for watching,
Fraser, Rachael, Grace and Albie

As a mum to a 19 month old, I'm so glad I found this channel. I would love to raise my daughter off grid. The world now is too busy and selfish and less people are developing life skills. You're doing a great job!
As a 30 year old guy, I can’t relate to mum guilt. But I can tell you if I had a choice to have grown up with the lifestyle I’d your children, or have a massive house with expensive toys… I would take your kids way of life in a heart beat. They’re very lucky to have you both.

Hi. Did you ever post the video that speaks about how you went around planning permission?? I think it'd be a really helpful video to make for people interested in this lifestyle. Considering it's quite hard to get planning permission in the UK for this style of living. Thanks.
It's generally the things you can't buy, that are the most valuable, there's nothing more beautiful than nature, and experiences. Good to see your children eating food, and not growing up on chicken McNuggets then introduce them to food in their early teens, and all the crap one hears about how difficult it is to disguise vegetables in meals. You're doing great guys.

Thanks, we always hoped they’d eat well and the poly tunnel certainly seems to have helped 😊
You are both doing a brilliant job raising your children. Don't beat yourself up with mum guilt though, what you see on Instagram and other social networks of these perfect houses and childrens bedrooms is usually so far from the actual reality. Just remember most people are only showing the good parts of their life, I was guilty of it myself and since realising I don't use Instagram anymore. My wife, kids and I live in a modern 4 bed new build house but I am super envious of the offgrid life you are all living. I often say to my wife I would love to live offgrid im not sure she is as enthusiastic as me. The message is don't compare yourself to others, it's not comparing apples for apples. When Grace and Albi are older they are going to tell you both how thankful they are for the lifestyle you have built for them they are extremely fortunate especially as you say how the world is changing. Keep doing what you do you have a beautiful family and an amazing lifestyle.

Educating you're children to question things is an amazing skill, one of which I didn't learn until I was older. I know you are a teacher but I find that schools are not places of eduction but rather remembering what you've been told. My boys both asked questions at a grammer school they went to and rather than answer them or even try to debate with them the teachers reported them as trouble makers. I told them to just get on with the school part and go along with the crowd of sheep but let your mind run free when you are out of the system building. They are both doing really well and over the last couple of years when the C madness went down they made good decisions for them and continue to do so... I'm sure there will be a few bad decisions along the way but at least they aren't scared to ask why it was a bad decision.

Can completely see where you’re coming from about the nature of schools. I think some secondary school seem particularly authoritarian 😩 Glad to hear your boys are doing well 😊
Just subbed. Your doing what I wanted to do years ago, too old now. Question 1 are you in Scotland now or still in sth lincs, 2 do you have to pay council tax. Your kids are the future of to brave new world, me and hubby are hoping they will leave us alone!! Us as in the freedom ones. But some days we believe They won't pull it off, but it will be in a right bloody mess. At least your awake, enjoy your freedom lovely ppl😘
For sure these two "little" batteries are never empty full of energy :). Cheers from Offgrid south of France :)

I wouldn’t worry about a few things the kids might have missed out on, you’ve given them so much more just by being out in nature. We are looking to sell our house and get some land somewhere, but it’s gone really expensive.
@The_OffGridFamily

Thank you 😊 Yes the cost of land definitely seems to be on the rise 😩 fingers crossed you manage to find something soon 👍
For me I think your off grid life is the real world. And a real grounding for bringing up children that can ballance real life and the smaller part of jobs money and schooling to become passive employees

@@The_OffGridFamily however thay decide to live you will have given them the opportunity to see more than most children get to know existed. I hoped to do the same for mine but they chose to chase the money instead and reject my life prioritys. We can only give them all the tools to build whatever life they chose no matter what that becomes.
@The_OffGridFamily

Yes we’ve always said that whilst we can give them the tools we think will prepare them best, the rest of it is up to them. Hopefully they will choose a life that brings them happiness 🤞😊
Curious to know how you coped with the midwife visits and health visitors living in a caravan etc.....? Plus, what do you intend to do about the childrens'education..?

We stayed with family after the children were born to get used to our new additions, so they actually visited us there. Education-wise we aren’t sure. It’s a tough one! We are considering home schooling, but no final decisions as of yet 😊
What a refreshing watch. The best video I’ve seen for a long time - and I’ve watched some great fishing videos too. At least your children will not grow up to be s n o w f l a k e s

I really hope you plan to send your kids to school.
Would it be fair to say, your 'mum guilt' contradicts where you said earlier, "be content with what you have". Don't get drawn in by Pinterest and Instagram. Social media is just a 'highlight' reel, I'm sure the people with all the nice nurseries are going through the same problems as me and you. :)
