On Ellen’s show, one of the twins (sadly can’t remember which) made a comment about what Dave Coullier was doing to them in the bathtub while filming Full House and Ellen joked “We don’t need to talk about that” alluding to sexual abuse and the audience laughed. My heart goes out to these girls. Who knows what they truly deal with day to day.

1000% agreed. She married down. He had to sign a prenup. She made him.put their apt in his name and pay the bills tho, so in a way she wasn't going full on hypogamy (altho on paper -- that prenup tho -- she did). She really lowered her and Ashley's collective value (bc they're unfortunately for Ash associated with one another inextricably) and now she prob won't rebound unless with some old, less rich dude again. Screwed her sister Ashley over too. Ashley probably doesn't even get hit on by age appropriate dudes in her tax bracket anymore. Bad choices all around. Moral of the story: I couldn't have said it better -- "Don't date old men and step children are not for child-free women in their prime years"!

„Men want a bird they can put in a cage“ that‘s how Trevor Noah‘s mum described the phenomena that men see a women who is free, ambitious, independent and want that feeling of putting that woman in a cage. They could have tons of „birds“ who already are „in a cage“ meaning girls who want to be a housewife, who were raised to become one, but that doesn‘t give them pleasure. The caging in is what‘s so interesting to them

Abel wanted a traditional marriage with a traditional wife. For a long time I wondered why he ever married a woman like my mom in the first place, as she was the opposite of that in every way. If he wanted a woman to bow to him, there were plenty of girls back in Tzaneen being raised solely for that purpose. The way my mother always explained it, the traditional man wants a woman to be subservient, but he never falls in love with subservient women. He’s attracted to independent women. “He’s like an exotic bird collector,” she said. “He only wants a woman who is free because his dream is to put her in a cage. Personally, what scares me about aging and being single isn't that I have a biological clock and that there's societal expectations for women. It's that I love my friends and would be completely fulfilled emotionally if we could all stay single best friends forever, but I know that most of them will get married and have kids and I will incrementally become less important to them because spouses and families are real indisputable priorities over friends. So if my friends all get married then I need to also find a life partner to have companionship to replace to relationships that will deteriorate as everyone's lives go on without me.

everything you said in this video is a fact. I'm so sick of men getting upset and whiny when they see a woman being successful and happy. I will never downgrade for a man... I've done it in mild ways but I've witnessed so many women quit their jobs and gain a ton a weight to please a man who wanted them to stay home. It's a form of control. I'm glad mary kate did not back down. That's what happens when you are 30+, you start to know better. glad she married after her twenties...even if it ended in divorce.

There's surely a guy there you want to flaunt in front of. Context: i'm an accountant and i only work with old ladies. While we were toghter i mostly wore more sporty clothes and he never took me out so i could get the chance do dress for him. Te fact that I never gave iN and would still wear whatever i wanted, generated so much frustration that he left me after an year of relationship.

So personal story, I met a guy out in the music scene I so loved and was part of before I started medical school. He wanted us to be together right off the bat, did everything for me, and said I love you two months in. I remember at the time I had a MONSTER of a semester with the devil course of neuroanatomy final (basically 9 courses in one) and I was busting my balls studying for this. I remember I told him that if I were to come spend time with him at his place, I could only spend 3 hours of my day with him-9 pm-12 am because the rest of the day I had to make notes and study. I thought this was INCREDIBLY generous as I barely had time to workout, have time for myself, fucking I don’t know, relax? So This guy takes it upon himself to get tickets to the body exhibition which meant that I would stop studying at 3 pm-9 pm. I remember coming home at 9 pm, being tired as fuck, yet sitting down and starting to study. Girl, does this little bitch not sit on the couch, scolding my for not “coming to cuddle” with him? Does he not give me SO much attitude then get his grumpy little ass off the couch and literally go into the bed room without acknowledging my existence and sleeps. Girl. I nearly left in the middle of the night to go back to my town. Things were never the same after that. I could see through his shit. Even after waking up middle of the night to apologize and try to basically lie to me and convince me he didn’t mean how he behaved, I was so done. Bitch I was studying neuro, studying pathways of the mind and trying to pass my exams and all you cared about was to cuddle with you after spending 6 hours doing some useless shit I have no fucks about? Get the fuck outta here

@@wednesdaysdoll I really think it's similar to when short men go after tall women, losers and insecure men are drawn to successful confident women. The women have something the guy wants but when they get her they realize it doesn't change their own situation and that just makes them resentful towards her, so they try to tear her down. In some country in central asia men abduct the most promising aspiring young women such as medical students just so they can turn them into stay at home wives in their village. It's like the fact they're successful and smart makes them a more valuable possession even though it's all wasted. The men of course aren't worth shit.

You're boyfriend lied to you because he was a weak, pathetic, mentally abusive, insecure POS. Unfortunately, our brains lies to us, as well. The brain is an amazing organ, but it does have negative bias in thoughts thanks to that pesky limbic system and, specifically, the amygdala. In order to dispute these lies, we must use our prefrontal cortex, which is executive functioning, logic, reasoning, to dispute the lies. Your ex needed to keep you small, so he nurtured a great deal of shame within you and that's hard to overcome, but it is possible. When you struggle to dispute that voice, become objective and non-judgmental. Look at the facts, which are what you have accomplished in your life, how inherently good a person you are, how you would never do to another person what your ex has done to you. Recognize the lies because they have zero merit. You know your truth.

I'm glad young bi people have someone who they look up to identifying with them. Original: One of the cast members of Riverdale, Vanessa Morgan, called out the shows lack of diversity and spoke about being paid less. The show is trying to distract from the bad publicity by seeming more inclusive. Just a theory. Maybe Lili also just felt comfortable coming out because the media would be less scrutinizing with history being made right now.

So where my mind was going was my ex’s sisters, mom, aunts, etc. I was married for 24 years and he expected that I would never want to take classes or get a p/t job or have any other outlet for growth or creativity other than being a wife or mom (even though I feel like that was my BEST job ever.) I just find that Shallon raised some great questions and was answering from my experience☺️

Renee R that’s fine I’m just going based on my experience. My fiancé has one brother so the only women in his family are his mom, an aunt, and a sister in law. He doesn’t want me to be any of those so that doesn’t necessarily dictate what he looks for or wants in a relationship. HIs mother was a stay at home mom and she’s extremely clingy and doesn’t have an identity outside of that so he would prefer me to have things outside of being a mom because his mom didn’t. I think friends are better indicators in my experience because they’re individuals he choose to be around and around our age not women who are 30+ years older than we are.

Many mothers are jealous of the youth and Opportunities of their daughters. Don’t let them drag you down sometimes toxic people need to be cut out of your life. Or at least minimize contact. Also hold your goals close to your chest. Stop telling them your plans and dreams entirely. They will only undermine you. Sometimes the parent is a narcissist too. Anyway. Know they love you as much as they are capable of and that will likely never be the way you wish they could love you. It may never be enough. Just accept it and move on and stop seeking their validation. It only puts you in their power so they can tear you down.

I got married at age 40 for the 1st and hopefully last time. Thank you Shallon for being specific about your sources of information. I am my husband's 3rd wife. When he asked me to marry him in a NYC restaurant, my 1st response was "how do you see a marriage with me playing out?" He was shocked. "Like what would you like my role and your role to be?" I asked because he has 3 children from the previous marriages, and 1 of them was 6 years old. He had full custody of a 6 year old girl even though her mother is an emergency room doctor and he is a trial lawyer. I am sooo glad I asked because his answer was "whatever you want." I then told him what I hoped for my/our life, and we agreed. I then said yes to his marriage proposal. He's a lawyer, we made an emotional, mental,, and verbal contract right then about our expectations of each other, and thankfully after 5 awesome great years of marriage, we have both kept up our ends of the family and marriage contract. Very important, we also had a good talk about money, and how/who would handle finances before even moving in together. I lived in Brooklyn, New York and he lived in Columbus, Ohio when we met in The city while he was on a case, so marrying g meant I had to move to Ohio and instantlybecome a step-mother. I cannot tell you how right you are from my own experiences. Having those discussions before marriage is why we are so happy now. Thank you.

It is so funny you mention the data collection in relationships... I asked my now husband after dating for a month or so, what his wishes were in terms of relationships and for his personal life to see if we seemed to be on the same page. We were and now, 11 years later, we still communicate like this - open and honest. I see so many friends who are so afraid of asking their boyfriend/husband questions like this. But I also think it comes down to anxiety for being left - lack of self esteem. Nevertheless, it is very sad to witness... especially when you give them advise on what to work with to improve their e.g. anxiety for getting dumped. And they simply do not want to do the work. Being fully honest about who you are and what you wish from life - towards your partner - is one of the best things I have ever done. You feel powerful, alone but also as a couple

It is very true that if you want a partner you have to know that they support the activities you do (recreational or work), I immediately got rid of two guys who mocked me for studying an art degree, and I also immediately stopped talking to a guy who mocked that I practice figure skating and ballet, because it was very disrespectful to me, I dedicate hours of my time, hope in my heart, spend a lot of money, literally sweat and cry, for a dumbass guy to tell me it's worthless No hun, what I do isn't worthless, you're worthless to me if you can't respect what I do My current boyfriend for sure is on board with whatever I do, he never complains about my career or my sport, he's very proud of me, and he says it but he also shows it through his actions: He waits to see me or text me until I'm done with my classes or my training, he has asked me what I will do for a living in the future in a very respectful way and out of curiosity rather than concern, he has accompanied me to events concerning my career so I feel more comfortable (and because I asked him to) and he has never got mad about any sensitive question I have asked to him because he wants to be honest with me So really, really, watch the actions of your partners, to know whether they are supportive or you or not, it will really save you a lot of time

And I was smart and funny. In the end, his biggest complaints were that I was too close to my family and friends and spent too much time on my career. His demands were for me to stop all of those relationships so I could focus on him 100%. The end of that relationship was the best thing that happened to me. I find that most men are really looking for someone to take care of them. Not all but most men are just not self sufficient enough. I got divorced because I was tired of the treadmill. I was running all the errands and he...was at home...not helping out. Thats been my experience.

This is very true and men always look for someone to take care of them. I want a partner, a decent intelligent man. These men are unicorns. I've met so many men who really don't have their stuff together, they are just boys looking for a substitute for their mommy. I doubt that I will marry, I don't see the benefit to women.

Ah! This video definitely made me bettter understand why my ex and I didn't work out. I didn't understand him and he didn't understand me, which led to us both trying to control each other and manipulate each other into becoming each other's "ideal". He would try to attack my career (I'm a teacher) by comparing me to his sister (who is in the same field as I am but who was still a student in Teacher's College and trying to get into the field, whereas I was already working and had been for about half a year by that time) which pissed me off. When I felt the need to vent about how I had issues with kids and how rude some of them were, he'd say how his sister didn't experience the same hardships and how she's better suited for the role cause she had been a dance instructor and knew how to work with kids better and all this shit. It always made me feel so hurt because I had worked so hard to become a teacher and I had the bad luck of ending up at a difficult school in my first year and felt really unprepared for it...I, on the other hand, would complain about his lack of religious beliefs and try to get him to be more religious because that's something that I value and that's a deal breaker for me (he came from a Catholic background but because he was forced to go to Catholic school, he stopped believing in organized religion so he wasn't open to practicing his religion). By the end of our relationship, we were both at each other's throats and fought over the same issues because neither of us would back down on what we valued and expected the other to give in. Like you said, the first fight is the most telling for sure. IF the issue is not resolvable, the two people need to break up and go their own way. No amount of time will fix things. Even if one person does change, that person can later become resentful if they changed to please the other person because he/she won't feel like he/she is being their authentic self. Anyhow, the point is, ever since I've started watching your videos, I feel like I've grown so much and learned to be true to who I am and what I want, to stand my ground on what I value, to put up healthy boundaries, and yet I also think I'm more empathetic now because I've started to understand other people's perspectives on important issues. Thank you, Shallon! You truly are the best! 💕

I recently learned to ask everyone who might be in my life in any close way so many more questions - so much earlier - than I usually do (not necessarily all at once, but some of them throughout a conversation - not an interrogation - & I can respond to appropriate questions asked to me, too, but I'd rather listen more, at least at first, and always keep listening - people like to talk a lot so it's easy). I'm asking things right away like: What do you think of BLM? (I learned I know a few racists...it wasn't great.) What is your biggest goal & why? What change would you like in the world? What was your greatest obstacle? Did you/ how did you overcome it? How do you feel? What is your greatest achievement? How did you accomplish it? How did/do you feel? How would you spend your time for a year if you could do anything you want and it's all paid for? What are your favourite books? Why? With which fictional character from any book, movie, song, play, picture do you most identify? Why? Who do you think you'd like to swap lives with for a bit? Why? Thoughts on drugs? Do you believe COVID-19 exists? If so, do you know or have thoughts from where it originated? Do you think its origins are malicious or unfortunate? Did you quarantine? If so, at what point? Do you wear a mask every time you go out? Where do you go out? Where would you like to go out? What's your family like & who are you within the family dynamics? Who in your family and friends do you love most; are most similar to; are most protective of; have the most difficult time getting along with; have an easy relationship with? Why? What have you recently learned, how did you learn it, how did it change you? (I'm not at the marriage/children phase in any way whatsoever so I don't have to ask much more important questions, but I know if that's where I'd be I would ask the important questions very early on, for safety, knowledge, and to not waste anyone's time.)

Hey shallon, that’s not what splitting is. I know you bring up BPD a lot and as someone with BPD who is continuously educating myself on the disorder I totally understand where you’re coming from and the points you’re making a lot of the time but sometimes what you say isn’t entirely accurate about BPD. I’ve commented before that you should check out “I Hate You Don’t Leave Me” as it goes over different cases and how that impacts the behavior that is displayed in adulthood. Anywho, splitting isn’t done as a malicious way to get power (I’m not saying manipulation isn’t a big part of BPD but this particular symptom isn’t that) splitting happens when idealization becomes devaluation because the person you idealized or just had a specific view of does something that does not align with that view so you devalue them to make the cognitive dissonance of what you believe vs the actions in front of you make sense. Obviously it’s not the persons actions that are bad but how the borderline views it. It comes back to black and white thinking and the inability or great difficulty in seeing shades of grey even in people. Hope this was informative :)

I know this isnt exactly on topic per say, but I think this might help some people. My dear friend/husband/father of my child and I broke up in 2017. We are still technically married and living under the same roof, but there was some logistical reasons for that that which involve (but are not limited to) raising our son who has special needs and granting the two of them the kind of time together that so many children and divorced fathers could only dream of. The road to our break up was a long one, but to cut it short and keep it relatable, we kept trying to make things work (something Shallon mentions now and then as the equivalent of flogging a dead horse, but I didnt have Shallon back then) and I eventually came to the conclusion that while I loved him, I was no longer IN love with him. And I had a series of epiphanies that were messages from the goddess of love herself that said "if you feel like this, then its possible that he does too and hasn't realised it yet", "with medical science constantly improving, you could easily live to 100, do you want to spend the next 40/50/60yrs with someone you arent passionately in love with? Could you, would you do that to him?" And finally the one that really hit me as a message from god herself, "would you be honouring your vows to god to love and cherish someone by staying, or would you be honouring them by setting them free? Would you be breaking them if you continued to love and cherish after the paperwork is finalized?" So yeah. Maybe this might help some people who are themselves wondering if they are doing the right thing by remaining married or not wanting to ruin what might be an otherwise wonderful marriage but for the "in love" aspect, maybe it will give another lense to veiw love and marriage and the spiritual aspect to it for those who value it, maybe it will help unmarried people veiw love and marriage with more clarity. 🤷🏼‍♀️ who knows. But I wanted to share just in case theres just one person out there who needed to hear it for whatever reason. For anyone interested in how its worked out: The breakup was awkward and awful (as they all are) Id never broken up with anyone before so it was a weird first. We had a tough couple of months while he processed, since Id already processed, and Id say it was about 4mths of passive agression before he came to me and said "you were right." We didnt tell our then 5yo for a while, he was about to start school and had enough on his plate, and his dad was already basically living on the couch so when he set up in the spare room, it wasnt strange. Telling him was easier than we thought, but then we do still love each other as family so it maybe wasnt as big a thing to process that "we are still family, but we are better to be just best friends" while still under the same roof. It was important to us moving forward to have mutually agreed upon boundaries and THOROUGH communication regarding expectations for the future and how we will raise our child and dating and everything else. Even so far as discussing concerns about the others dates perceptions of our situation and what our priorities are regarding our weird little family unit. We've worked damn hard to be emotionally and mentally mature to create and maintain this to be as healthy and loving and positive as possible for all. (we are still thoroughly communicating about everything, otherwise it wouldnt work) we pretty quickly found that it was a LOT easier to live peacefully and happily together without the pressure of trying to "make it work" and encouraging each other to find happiness in whatever way we need. Hes been dating, Ive been focusing on myself and my goals. We raise our son together, take him to drs appts together, are always able to stay on the same page about what he needs and wants and likes, etc. We're pretty proud of our little family, and we look forward to adding to it if/when the time comes. And unlike my childhood, our son doesnt have a clue that most divorces end bitterly and viciously. That the children are used as weapons against the other for their petty vengeance, or that the children are shuttled from one home to another based on what the courts say. Not a clue that divorce is usually a painful experience that wittles your entire relationship span, parenthood beginnings and shared happiness down to the dividing of property and money and how much money needs to be paid for the children. He just knows that we have separate rooms and sometimes dad goes out on dates and doesnt come back til the next day. That he can climb into either of our beds when he has a nightmare. Bit long, sorry. But its important to me that I might be able to add value here somehow.

Late 20s is NOTHING! You have all the time in the world to go after your dreams; just start small. Start with some classes, maybe a small side hustle, a project, a craft, and practice incorporating that more and more into your daily life rather than BOOM here I go to an OFFICE 40 hours a week. If you make it a mental priority, it'll be easier to make it a logisitical priority!

Babe don’t throw away what you have. You’re perfectly situated to pursue a passion. Figure out what you enjoy doing. Learn a skill from home. Take a class in coding at a community college a couple nights a week. Take one course for credits every few months online in a subject you find interesting. Relax and take in slow. You can earn a degree at your own pace. You can train in something new. You can learn to sew. Learn to draw. Start an online business in something that doesn’t feel like work. And have a side bank account that your husband doesn’t know about for special savings that your own secret stash. Women through the ages do this. It’s not being dishonest. But you need this nest egg built up through the years so if your marriage ever falls apart you have the the luxury of taking your time to get on your feet. And if you never need it you can take your husband on a surprise retirement trip when y’all are both 65.

It's not too late. If you are worried about education, it will always be there. There is no age restriction. I have two master's degrees, one I got in my late 20s/early 30s and one I got in my late 40s to start a brand new career. When the recession hit in 2009, I lost everything and had to start all over again. I had to take out loans to survive as a student for the second time (I am not married, no husband to support me during the dark times) and I supplemented my income with my hobby. I sold my art on etsy. I shuttered my etsy shop when I started to pursue my licensure. It's been at least 5 years and I still get people emailing me, begging me to start making my sculptures again. There is opportunity, even when it feels like loss, setbacks and isolation. Trust in yourself to find a path.
