Honestly I've been 12pm- 8pm fasting for 2 years. I lost and have kept off 60lbs and eat and (sadly) drink what ever I want in that window. This is just my experience. Some mornings do suck but nothing tastes better than skinny.

Calories in...calories out....sure, yes, but....to say there is absolutely no difference in the results one would get if they were to eat 2000 calories a day of taco bell and donuts, as opposed to (for instance) 2000 calories a day of grass fed, grass finished beef, unsweetened greek yogurt and mixed berries, is simply not true. And I speak from experience. Your body composition, lean mass to fat ratio, and overall heath will be vastly different. No one can dispute that. And the same calories eaten in a smaller eating window, as opposed to a longer one, will garner different results. Again I speak from experience.

the whole idea behind fasting is to increase insulin sensitivity, promote autophagy and teach your body to be more resilient and adapted.

I’ve always seen and heard that not doing breakfast and breaking the fast right before noon is the more preferred method of fasting. I wake up at 6am so I wonder if that’s optimal to wait till then.

Everyone check out Andrew Hubermans podcast on fasting, changed my life and this video doesn't really give full context to the benefits of time restricted eating.

I cut do long periods of fasting. It actually doesn't make it easier to focus and I end up feeling worse. I can do a 13 to 14 hour fast and be good for the most part.

I've always looked at it as a way to eat less. I don't think there's any magic to IF hormonally, etc. It's just easier to eat less when I do it in shorter window.

When you can eat 1000+ cal in one sitting (good, bad, dense, low cal) it doesn’t matter the eating window …

Please watch Andrew Huberman and Jason Fung on this matter. Calories in and out is such a basic understanding. It’s not the only thing that matters. And intermittent fasting isn’t the same as just fasting.

Intermittent fasting has many benefits to your health besides fat loss, fat loss is one of the minor benefits but is definitely possible if you lower your carbohydrate intake during your feeding window.

There is zero correlation between carbohydrate intake and fat loss. Fat loss is a matter of energy balance, not macronutrient proportions.

@@graeme5060 I have been weighing my food and calories precisely since March 2020 with zero cheating. I have lost 75lbs doing this with zero exercise. I have used various combos of macros, meal timing and meal frequency during this time whilst keeping calories at exactly 2000 per day and protein at 180g per day. I have done four meals a day with lots of chicken, tuna and higher carbs versus very low carbs with lots of beef and eggs. They all work to lose fat BUT but the higher carb, lower fat more meals per day was unbearable from a hunger standpoint, especially when I was eating air popped popcorn and bread like Greg Doucette allows. More meals and more volume of food did not make the hunger between meals less but greater. The best combo I have landed on is 50% fat, 35% protein and 15% carbs from potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots, mushrooms, tomatoes, avocados and macadamia nuts. Protein from ground beef, whole eggs, chicken breast and tuna using 2 meals a day, 8 hours apart.

When I stopped doing IF, I lost more weight. Also, my HRV went up because my body wasn’t in a state of “flight or fight” all the time. Fasting is not the health boon everyone thinks it is. It’s only a trendy thing and unless one has a specific health reason, such as diabetes, it’s not healthy. Yes, one may engage the SNS more with fasting, but balance between SNS and PNS is more important for overall health.

Fasting can be a great tool. But to use it at length or too frequently isn't optimal. I prefer to "protein fast" on a day where I have an event scheduled. For example, 40-50 grams of protein for breakfast and again at lunch and then Thanksgiving dinner
