    Hello you two, I think so whether a price is high or not so high, it doesn't really matter, what's more important is that it's worth it to you personally. If you had been at home it might have been cheaper but then there wouldn't have been any adventures. That's what you have to do If it is worth it then the price is secondary, VG Oldie👍

    Not sure what it’s like now but the Caravan Club used to have really good breakdown, caravan insurance and pet insurance - membership literally paid for itself (and more) with those savings. Thanks for your vlog - I used to have a small holiday flat in France and my total cost for just running the place was 5,000 Euro (£4,262) a year (not counting transportation to get there). All the family and friends visited and it was fun but eventually I found myself on my own. Sold it and bought my L2H2 van and it was the best decision ever. Touring in my van for 5/6 months is expensive but I can now travel with my two dogs and see some fabulous places. I look forward to all your vlogs!

    The cost of a towbar will vary slightly depending on the vehicle and type of towbar (not every vehicle can have every towbar and there's also different types of electrics) so you may get one for £500, it all depends. The caravan is a much better option than hotels, especially for Winston. 👍🏼 Thanks so much for watching.

    Thank you for another informative video, Roz. The ongoing costs are less than I expected and a lot cheaper than hotel rooms. The big outlay is buying the caravan. For this reason, I'm torn between sticking with my tent, car camping, swapping my car for a campervan or motorhome or doing as you have done. Each option has its pros and cons. Please would you elaborate on why your Go Pod is unsuitable for park-ups, as the caravan pitches are your biggest expense.

  • @Roz.S

    @Roz.S

    8 күн бұрын

    Caravans require some setting up when you arrive to your destination. You have unhitch, level the caravan, put the steadies down, connect the water and waste water, apply hitch lock and wheel lock, amongst other things. Then you need to do all of that in reverse if you need to move the caravan. When staying in park-ups, you ideally need to be able to move (quite quickly) if asked to do so. Also, if touring Europe, there are 'aires' (park-ups) and most of these do not allow caravans for those reasons and because they're not self-contained (they don't carry their water onboard). Some people are happy to use park-ups in a caravan, but it takes a bit more effort in finding a suitable place to stop where you have the space to set-up, turn around, and where you know you won't be moved. Caravans are also a pain if you intend to be moving to a new place each day. Caravans are great if you intend to drive to a campsite, pitch, and then explore from that base using your car. Campervans and motorhomes are great if you intend to keep travelling, but stop frequently at different places as you do so. Hope that helps.

    Not thought of it before. I could get a hot plate type and save money since I'm always on electric, but the gas isn't that expensive and it's just another thing to carry. The gas does have more risk, but my caravan gets serviced every year, I have a carbon monoxide alarm, the hob has auto-shut off, I turn the gas off when travelling etc. so I'll probably just stick with that for now. Thanks for the suggestion anyway 👍🏼 and thanks so much for watching.

    I spend a little bit more on food when away in the caravan than what I would do at home, but not by much. I still go to supermarkets and try to cook in the caravan as much as possible. I don't eat out much but I will treat myself to some local delicacies. Thanks for watching.

    Great video. Cost of the caravan sites vary dramatically, for instance if you go to Cornwall its really expensive. Where here in Wales its not so bad. Definitely need to do your homework. The less touristy sites are my go to places.

    I don't know if you would include the cost of your internet booster? This is a great tool for someone thinking of starting up in caravans or motor homes.What you said about costs that are small but soon add up also are true if you have a house (Light bulbs, drainers,bedding etc).I think £23.38 is very good value as I thoroughly enjoyed your travels and Winston's wagging tail! Safe travels.See you both on the next.

    The purchase of the internet booster would be included in the accessories, which is a one-off cost. My sim charge for it is £10 per month, which I did not include. I forgot about that since it is a business cost of mine and I probably wouldn't have it if I didn't work and travel. Thanks for watching. Winston's tail is worth the £20 per day 👍🏼😅

  • @Roz.S

    @Roz.S

    8 күн бұрын

    Yes, it does cost a bit more in fuel, but it's not that much of a difference since my van is very economical and my caravan is light. I probably lose about 5-10mpg but still average around 40mpg when towing. This will obviously be different for everyone depending on what they're driving and the weight they are towing. Thanks for watching 👍🏼

  • @64BJH
    @64BJH23 күн бұрын

    Interesting but you need to add in additional van running costs, how many extra miles did you drive over and above your ‘normal’ mileage? Towing will reduce your clutch life and brake pads, plus your mpg will be reduced even towing your small caravan. Still an interesting summary of your years costs.

  • @Roz.S

    Yes, as campsite fees are going up most vans are choosing to just park in spots next to the road etc, only going to campsites when the need to top up on water and empty waste etc. I'm currently away for 64 nights around Scotland and my campsites have cost me over £2000 (my caravan isn't suited to park-ups, so I need to be on a campsite).

    Very comprehensive costs video, Roz. A couple of things: *I know fuel costs are a bit subjective, but how about an mpg figure for Dory when towing? *What about the depreciation of the Pod? I’d imagine this would be one of the largest single ongoing expense. You could argue that you could stay in B&Bs etc, for similar per night expenses, if you take into account not having to buy a caravan. However, I don’t think you would have as rich an experience as you are having on these beautiful sites. Also, I think you would find B&Bs more restrictive for Winston.

  • @Roz.S

    @Roz.S

    - Dory towing is about 40-45mpg (she's the diesel version and very fuel efficient) - I think that Go Pod's hold their value quite well (but I'll be able to tell you more when I come to sell her 😂). Shortly after buying my Pod, the people who make Go-Pod put the prices up on the new ones, so I think that will work in my favour. But whatever caravan I bought, it's going to depreciate. If you take into account the upfront cost of the caravan then yes, B&B's might have been a similar price. But over the long term, the caravan should get more cost effective the more I use it. So, if after 3 years I did the same calculation including the cost of the caravan, then it should be cheaper than B&B's. Plus, when I'm ready to sell, I can some money back from the Pod, so if I just use the money I lost in the depreciation, then it should be even cheaper. That's the theory anyway 😂 obviously, I can't predict the future 😅 Thanks for watching 👍🏼

    @@Roz.S a comprehensive reply, Roz😂. That's good fuel economy. I suppose depreciation is a variable variable. Apparently, there was a caravan boom after COVID, resulting in some ridiculous purchase price increases. This has apparently changed now, for example, a few well established caravan dealers have gone into receivership this year. So, I'm a bit surprised that site fees are still increasing.

    You should also do a breakdown of the cost of the towing van and fuel. I have a VW Touareg for towing, and a Airstream Nest. What I like about your Go Pod is the entrance located at the rear. My Nest has the same design. This makes for a very smooth tow, as the caravan/trailer is narrow, and in my case, I don't need the extended mirrors.

Some camp sites are getting silly in their price cashing in on a wave of a booming life style . £20 max or I walk away if everyone did this the rising problem wouldn’t be happening. I pay 10-19 quid or I find a park up I’m lucky I can do that I realise not all can .
