He totally is reading from the novels in the novels it has the part were sara actually had a part for her opinion which is stated in this video of course in the anime it did not have the part saras opinions but overall did say the story just wished he said in the discription it was from the novels

This story will just make you realize that misunderstanding is one of the scariest thing. Not just in fiction.

@@panzerlite8108 Not in Moshoku Tensei, yes, that is my point. While romcom anime usually play the harshest misunderstandings as jokes, MT does not. Romcom treating graves misunderstandings at jokes and making lgiht of them is what feels wrong.

What resonates so much about this show is that the characters actually act like young people who don’t know how to navigate relationships. It feels real because we’ve all been there where you put your foot in your mouth and screw up relationships. Most other anime just treat characters like they are more wise than they’d probably be

Either that or they are absolutely inept to hold any kind of relationship with someone, romantic or not, this seems much more realistic altho frustrating at times from the viewers perspective. The show perfectly portraits that even tho his mind is of a 46year old at this point, the lack of relationships in his past life make him an actual 12year old as he is at this point in the show.

I've never put my foot in my mouth in a relation ship, but then again, I'm usually not the one who fucks up as a guy. If your entire thing is being about clear communication, then it's hard to do this.

It's worth noting that Sara does not really have a mention in the web novel. It's practically nothing more than a mention of "Rudy tried to have sex with someone and couldn't get it up" and that's it. I'm glad that the LN added her, though, because she does a lot for Rudy's growth as a character.

I tried playing one of my favorite small games (OneShot) and I remembered most of the story, but just forgot all the small little seemingly inconsequential things. Like where to go to get X, whether I should do Y before Z or vice versa... There's a part of me that hopes I don't get worse, but at the same time a small curious part of me that wonders if I DO get worse, I may be able to play all my favorite games all over again and experience them for the first time again.

I liked Sara. She was clearly immature, but made sense for her age. I'm glad to hear she learned and grew from it. Rudeus certainly did as well. I do wonder if we'll see her again in the future as a happenstance thing

Honestly, Sara was a well written character. Just a shame that, like most teenagers, she had no wisdom, and was quick to judge things instead of asking the right questions. Spoiler: Sara and Rudy eventually see each other again and reconsile. Rudy is has two wives at the time it happens. She does apologize to what had happened.

One of my favorite things about Mushoku Tensei is how realistic a lot of the relationships with other characters feel. It feels like people come and go all the time in this show like how Dead End split up eventually and all went their own ways. I feel like most animes would have it where they would be with those characters in a group for the rest of the show. Many misunderstandings happen and there are many sides to multiple characters you get to see. It's weird but some of my favorite pieces of media are these fantasy worlds with more realistic and believable aspects you see from people, relationships, and how people are mentally affected and change.

I'll say this, despite Elise's profession she was obviously a high quality woman from how she treated Rudeus nicely and told Sara off when she messed up. And Sara was definitely Waifu material but her lack of experience and stubborness are her only downside which I love how very real that is.

For the most part they were in charge of the psychological care of the cities form the lowest commoner to the high ranking nobles most ppl were given real life advice or councel . and Elise clearly show the knowledge of one in the profession. From the diagnostic of what happen to Rudy and how to cure/help him to the fact that she admonished Sara in regards that if you could not look at your partner and see hes hurt or have problems then you are not really ready for a relationship (of course shes cant be blamed for being an inexperienced kid )

I do not understand this mentality so many of you have. Sara's cruel to a stranger in pain even quickly accusing him of lying about his missing mother after a well known disaster . Then after months of being a good person she downgrade to Just mean to the now known Rudus. More acts of goodwill and she gets to indifferent to meh about the borderline Saint(here anyway) Rudus. It takes a suicidal(for most people) solo rescue mission and she stops being a bitch to him. THE SECOND she can she goes right back to being full cruel bitch trying to hurt Rudus anyway and as much as she can. Then a visibly drunk rudus vents and she's the victim. Nonsense.

Sara could of used those 6+ months of learning about Rudus and gone "I was wrong about him before instead of assuming the worst let ask" She doesn't at least not till much too late. She wrong about this guy again and again and again it would normally take a lot of effort to then want to be with such a person more so after the embarrassment of being wrong about them so much. maybe a vow not to make assumption about them any more. She seemingly instead just was waiting for a chance to assume the worst of Rudus again. She went from 1-100 at the drop of a hat. She had those words sharpened to a razor edge ready to stab into his heart at a moment notice.

@@neotagatg3238she was immature, 16, flawed teen only trusting what she sees, she doesn’t question it until later when her anger has quenched down. In one moment of your life, you sure got so angry about something but then after a while, you thought to yourself “it wasn’t that big of a deal…” and regret it, that’s what happening to sara here. Also saying “she was cruel to a stranger” is a little too much, she was just mad that rudeus was subconciously rude to suzanne. I think her actions are justified for a young naive teen not knowing how to start and maintain a relationship, at the end of the day she figured things out and regretted it, that she was in the wrong.

this episode gave me an actual panic attack from how painfully accurate it was to my own feelings of regret when it comes to relationships and missunderstandings/miscommunication.

I love Sara's character in the light novel. I doubt we'll get to see her entire story animated, maybe in an ova or something. Her thoughts about Rudeus being a noble and the conversation she has with Elise did so much to really show how young and inexperienced she was. While her and the rest of Counter Arrow don't really add much in the long run, this volume of the light novel really adds to Rudy's trauma that makes his character a lot more human. Very great explanation video as always!

Also, spoilers if we ever get a season 3 (cope): I would love to see how the anime adapts Rudy's and Sara's reunion. Since vol.7 Sara has always been a character I wished to see more off solely to see how both her and Rudy matured over the course of the story.

The animation for the episode did go pretty hard tho which kinda made up for rudy not going so hard.

Sara is way too real. Awesome supporting character. It's important to note that despite Rudy still being pretty miserable after screwing up with Sara, it's a pretty big step in his growth. Same is true of Sara honestly.

the good thing about mushoku is that it depicts characters how they really are and SHOULD be, a 16yo girl at his first experience, a boy with a torn hearth, etc.

Sara love interest was borne of remorse for the way she had treated Rudeus. Rudy really did not feel the same way about her as he had felt for Eris, Roxy, or Sylphy. If he had, he would not have given up and left with Soldat and try to work out their misunderstanding. Years later, when Rudy was asked to joined an all-female adventure group called the Amazons to escort a royal back to the capital since their mage and healer had fallen ill, he would meet Sara again. At which time, their feelings for each other had dissolved, but Rudy learned from Sara she had already forgiven him due to the revelation from Elise.

Honestly this is why I fell in love with this show. They understand how to write people, not just characters. Legit I am working on a D&D campaign based on this series because I love it so much. I just hope I can do it justice.

In between University/Academy arc and Labyrinth arc, there's also Volume 10 and 11 which also connecting to the University, but it's outside of it. I won't spoil that much from a LN reader as myself but if you want to be spoiled just ask. 🤣😅

This is amazing, am so glad this popped into my recommended. I’m glad that Sara eventually learned the truth of what happened though, otherwise she’d live the rest of her life with yet another misunderstanding. Given Sara’s backstory things actually make a lot more sense regarding how wary she was of him throughout. Thanks for this recap, I’d love to watch more of these after episodes roll out but not sure whether that’s a good idea as the anime adaptation might catch up to what’s in these recaps and reveal stuff as time goes along. Not too sure though. Thanks though!

Thank you for making this content, I love this show and how good it truly is. The Animation, the story, how each character is portrayed. It is on another level I have yet to see in any other anime so far, Only two I could really think I have enjoyed recently has been Sword Art Online, watched when originally came out and read the books up to Just past War of underworld, and Black Summoner. Now I have watched other animes and have a meh response to them, but Mushoku Tensei really resonates, and I love seeing your content to give more details from the Light novel/manga that provides. So please keep doing what you are doing.

The episode was difficult to watch for me. Suzanne says Rudy was out of line by saying what he said which, he was, but this tells me that Suzanne was not aware of what Sara said to Rudy that night. She was every bit as nasty, even more so. She hit Rudy while he was down, & while I do think he shouldn’t have said what he said, it was reactionary. It was a result of what she had done to him. & then she hits him & everyone was just cool with it. He could have justifiably laid her out in response & everyone would have just exploded on him even more. I think their story ends exactly as it should. I think you nailed it by mentioning Sara’s immaturity. She wasn’t ready for those types of feelings or the…obligation-pun very much intended-of a serious relationship.

For me Soldat and Elise are the GOAT, some times the approach to a problem needs to be different, and like someone said the anime is so relatable to real life, all good and bad emotions are present and we feel like we were there

One of the great aspects of MT is how it treats miscommunication. It's not a silly set up for comedy here, but something that can lead to true tragedy. Misunderstandings can have devastating consequences. Rudeus almost losing his first friend in Sylph because he thought she was a guy was a relative harmless way to invite us to this fact. I mean, the entire reason Rudeus currently is this depressed and uncertain is that Eris is a stupid blockhead unable to put her thoughts into written words! Rudeus almost letting himself get killed 2 times in a year and trying to end himself is all because of a very simple misunderstanding about how Eris feels about him! Sara gets her heart broken because Eris should not be trusted with pen and paper!

I really liked Sara but I knew something bad was going to happen. I knew the story wouldn’t let our boy Rudy be happy or have a win yet

Amazing video, Sam! Even made me notice a few things! However, the last bit isn't a spoiler, but cut content. Whoever is running this show has chosen to focus on Rudy's perspective as much as possible and to only show the perspectives of other characters when absolutely necessary AND when Rudeus isn't there to witness things. My guess is that they did this for budgetary reasons. The show's already expensive as is. I'm willilng to bet next episode starts with the Dragon from the trailers. Maybe you point people here from your cut content video.

Definitely Rudy's, mostly because he finally got to have the intimate moment with Eris, after genuinely making her fall for him. Then SHE leaves him a 2 sentence note, putting the blame on him. Sara and Rudy did have moments as well, but not the number nor the extent of Rudy and Eris'.

Thanks I really appreciate these episode fillins. Fleshes out the stories and gives more context.

The series is so well written imo. Misunderstandings like this happen all the time. The regret, pain and remorse that people feel makes the stories so real.

(Jazz hands & sings) Depression... Yep, this arc hits both sexes hard with the harsh realities of placing too much stock in both; A mans worth in his ability to perform and a womans capacity to arouse & be attractive. Elise is an absolute champion with how she is able to figure the situation out and explain it maturely. Rudeus is emotionally closed off, scared of being abandoned again. As Elise puts it, he needs to be with someone he can open himself up to and be vulnerable with in order to be able move on; Both emotionally and physically. The first and only person that came to Rudeus' mind when Elise said that was Roxy, the woman that helped him conquer his fears of going outside. A particular blonde horny elf in hot on his heels to tell him about his mother's whereabouts & what's being done about it. Also to tell him he doesn't need to be looking for Zenith any more, so he can pursue something other than Adventuring now. Setting up the transition nicely to the next Arc, as seen a little in the trailers.

I do want to add, the main reason Sara start looking for Rudy that morning was that they were scheduled to go on a quest with counter arrow and Rudy didn’t show up at the gate, and that was when she heard about him going drinking with Suzanne, great video, though

I graduated high school in 2020 when the lockdowns started. Every single one of my college courses ended up being online. Outside of my friends, I no longer know what people my age are like. So it makes sense that Rudy grew distant from how someone his actual age would normally act.

I think the most infuriating part of Sara's story is the people complaining on Crunchy about how there is no action. completely missing that this show isn't suppose to be action packed. it is a well thought out character driven world builder

Yes, it probably have been in a heat of moment, they were both drunk, but somehow when rudy is saying bad shit when drunk he can be beaten up, but when she said something that very likely could destroy young man (I know he's reincarnated, but given how fucked up his previous life was he's still not as experienced as average joe going to party every now and then) confidence for years it's cool, she's misunderstood or something? Nah. I was enjoying her character even though she was way more bitchy than Rudy's moping would call for, but after what she said when leaving? It maybe makes her even with Rudy after hearing what he have said, though she still had it easier than him. I really enjoyed the fact that he didn't follow her, I hate situations when one party (whatever man or woman, thought 99% time it's man) in relationship has to be "the bigger one" and apologize when both screwed up, or even just the other one screwed up.

Little (potential) problem with the thumbnail. I’m an anime only fan. I try my best to avoid spoilers and stuff, and immediately avert my eyes whenever I see something that might be a spoiler. I didn’t catch on first glance that this was an AniNews video, but I recognized the thumbnail format. For a moment it led me to think that Sara was going to die, but knowing aninews, I trusted that it wasn’t going to be a massive spoiler and watched anyway. The point I’m making is that more people probably had the same initial reaction to the thumbnail but decided to not watch the video out of fear of more ‘spoilers’. I imagine they’ll continue to watch MT expecting Sara to die at some point.. Maybe shifting up ‘backstory’ to be visible more at the front of the title or in the thumbnail would help. Seeing as how this was completely glossed over in episode 4, I appreciate that you went over what happened with Sara the day after. I feel like Elise's statement struck home with the bases loaded. Literally backed him into a corner and didn't remotely realize how distraught he was over his condition. That said, I actually hope Eris gets the same kind of talk from someone cause the situation with her was far worse. Great episode!

most people feel sorry for sara, but i think rudeus got the worse of it all... its not even close. yeah he said stupid things and hurt her, but thats after she just left a broken kid, and made everything worse with saying she was only there as a "debt" repayment. just because she thinks rudeus might not find her attractive?

Most importantly what he said in that moment he NEVER would have if he knew she was around. But she specifically set out to hurt him when she left that room that night. she had no right to hit him after what she said to him.

Where Sara's party abandons her to fate, my man Rudy braved a blizzard, beasts, and the treant that held Sara hostage solo at just the HOPE of saving her. After all of that, Sara at least owed it to Rudy to hear him out and understand his situation, but that's just a what-if now.

@@TyTheTuber imo the slap within the context of walking past a open loud conversation was justified. From her perspective she went out on a date with someone that she started to trust, then when the moment got spicy he failed to launch. When that happens to guys they feel inadequate, when it happens to women they feel just as bad. So with the feeling of inadequacy and then walking by the guy you were supposed to get with last night said that you look like a kid and you have no chest, that would only confirm said thoughts. Now since we have the full context it feels unjustified but, that would be her perspective.

Thanks, Sara was just a person who had too much skepticism in her life well, they are just a kind of showed that. The fact is that sometimes that skepticism is the reason why things like this can happen again she’s not in the wrong, but she can jump to conclusions because of it. And because of that, the person she grew love for left. All because of a misunderstanding.

I finally caught up with the series, so I'm watching your cut content series. Kudos to you for doing really amazing job. Those comparisons and cut content adds so much depth to those scenes. To Sara herself, I think she was a good character with a lot of potential. Some comments stated, that she met Rudy at bad time, some at good time, but she was immature. I think I could agree with all of those statements at the same time. What I mean is she played bad game with bad hand and really bad decisions. Her shyness put them both at disadvantage. Firstly Rudy's trauma amplified and his ED showed up. Secondly she wasn't looking at whole picture of the situation she was in and made her conclusion on impulse. All the stages of their relationship were build on some prejudice from the begining. As you stated: - she hated him for his lineage - she thought he was weak and cowardly - she put him in "the situation" instead of talking to him about feeling they could have for each other - she marched to conclusion, while seeing and hearing Rudy down the street, when he was just trying to cope with his miserable state - she didn't go after him, leaving those problems unresolved. I know I did quite a bashing on her, but Rudy was at fault there too. He wasn't completely open about himself and didn't try to made up with her. His decision to go to the "hotel" was wrong in my opinion. This only put additional pressure on his cracked mind state. All of those bad decisions and wrong timings lead us to the result. Could she be his first or next wife later? I don't think so. She was a little to similar to Eris in some ways, so she clashed with her for slot in the harem. Maybe those similarities were part of the reason she didn't click with Rudy. Who knows, but after reading about their next encounters I think I'm pretty satified with her as a character. Only thing I'm curious about is, what she could bring to harem. We know the main cast is about Rudy's children, so her being some kind of genius was only a fluke or maybe their children could expand to new posibilities.

I honestly felt really bad for Sara reading the novels, I wished that the things didn't turn out as they did cause I actually really liked her character, but it was what it was. I honestly doubt that the rest of her story was going to be adapted at all, seeing how much was already being cut this season, so I'm sure a lot of people will appreciate this video a lot!

It was really nice to know that Sara knew Rudeus' situation from Elise. That night when Elise told Soldat that Rudeus was afraid of women because of his past, my mind screamed that Sara needed to hear it as well. It would've cleared the misunderstandings and Sara could've sympathized him. Oh well, it is what is and I'm just glad she found the full context at the end.

Thank you for this video. I'm not sure why, but this situation Rudeus was in really struck me, and how the anime cut out everything that happened rubbed me the wrong way on a major level. It almost feels like the anime adaptation is really trying to make you hate Rudeus for his underdeveloped emotional intelligence. I'm also surprised you didn't mention the scene where Rudeus put the knife to his throat, in my opinion, I thought it really capture genuine emotion.

Incredible video 🔥, I also believe that the core issue of everything are the "misunderstandings", which is caused by lack or a failure in the communication between the couple. The biggest reason nowadays i am always brutally honest with every single girl i might feel interested in. We tend to hide our flaws and our sincere opinions trying to avoid rejection or even afraid of causing discomfort to the significant other. But the lack of honesty and sincerity with both, the other person and specially yourself, may cause lots of communication issues that may hurt way more on the long run than a harsh truth or a insensitive honest opinion.

It's like a self fulfillling prophercy, Rudy was so afraid about rejection and protect his own ego while drunk that lead to Sara rejecting him. IRL, Sara would never forgive Rudy. Here, Only because of Counter Arrow members and Elise that she can know the truth.

True, although the reason he got into such a state was because she picked the absolute worst possible thing to say after he was unable to get it up. Neither of them are at fault to be honest. She lied to him to save her ego instead of trying to understand his problem, and then he went on a drunken tirade in public.

@@ricoselkum She definitly wasnt as insulting as him and rudeus clearly wasnt hurt by what she said he 100% believed her from the beginning when she said "this is just so i dont owe you" rudeus was hurt in his pride because he couldnt perform as he thought he should. While drunk he started to explain to himself basically that she was just to much below him rudeu is not supposed to be in any way right in this scene. Edit: to make it slightly more clear what i mean im not saying she was in the right but rudeus was clearly in the wrong. She thought she got rejected and she said from the beginning even before he didnt get it up that she just did it as thanks. which he wasnt insulted by she didnt make fun of him she just felt insulted. After which rudeus actually did insult her. shes 16 rudeus is like 40 at this point get real.

They are both in the wrong, but she was the one who triggered it when she tried to excuse her reasoning for trying to sleep with him, which was "just an obligation" That devalued what they had, and also devalued all the work Rudous had built himself up from since his last girlfriend betrayed him (Sleep with him, cut her hair, leave him a horrible;e note that devastated him) etc... I mean once she slapped him later and she left the dagger behind he was moments from offing himself right behind her.)I am curious has that happened right behind her, what her reactions would have been..

The note was self explanatory. Eris never said she dumped rudy. She just said we're not suitable for now. Im going for a journey then Rudy thought he was ditched. Eris also doesn't know how to write so yeah. It sucked.

For how the letter was written in the light novel. It is actually better understood with the cut content, whereas the show has the letterhiving off the impression that Rudy was below her station and thus she left him.

its a spoiler because of their future reunion in LN 13 likely being covered. Rudy will learn of what happened at the same time anime watchers will.

I got the impression from the anime she was "eris, but without the street smarts" meant to portray how easily one can chance into a misunderstanding by placing one's pride over one's heart.

so moral of the story at the end: don´t leave things ambigious and don´t expect someone else to perfectly understand what you want without spelling it out
