The Author didn't give Rudues a name as he wanted Rudeus to represent those who have given up on life, those who have shut themselves away from reality and indulged in their desire. Rudeus's Journey is the journey for redemption, the story emphasizes that " people can change" But it doesn't mean you will become a different person. Rudeus might have a different look, but he was the same insecure guy when he got Isekai. He was haunted by his past. He got over it but he needs people, relationships, and responsibility to hold it together. If those things fail, he would only return to the old path.

Yup. Throughout the series we see Rudeus break down a few times, and fail repeatedly. Despite being a power fantasy anime, this show displays a remarkable amount of weakness of character for the MC. While that sounds like a bad thing, it's really just to show how important it is to rely on those around you and be persistent. I think too many writers cheap out with stories of invincible characters, but characters who struggle and fail are far more emotionally engaging. I even appreciate that this series *doesn't* always end up with every conflict working out alright in the end. A truly engaging story has to have some stakes, and painting the situation as hopeless only to show the MC overcoming the odds can only be interesting so many times. I think there have to be some losses. It makes people more emotionally invested.

I think much more suit him is having a "Relationship" to other people, I mean what made him dispair but also made him successful in life is because his relationship to other people and much more important to his loved once. that what makes him an incredible MC, he wasn't just a lone wolf mc just like other typical Isekai mc, He was a human who cling to other people to not only help and loved those people but also loved and care for himself... he value relationship over anything in his life after all in his past life those "relationship" were mere fantasy to him.

Rudeus's backstory is truly depressing, it's clearly because of his bad luck. And once he had been shoved into that darkness, he couldn't pull himself from there. But that's all the more reason I love his character in his next life. He knows he has been given a chance and he genuinely wants to change. But it is hard to change bad habits. That kind of realisticness also makes his character so great. As an anime only, I absolutely love his character the most. It's like watching a very close humble friend go through life. Gosh, I'm so excited to see how much more development he will get.

This was good to learn. A lot of people don't like rudeus but to me he is by far the most interesting character in the show and feels like what an average degenerate would probably be like with nothing to hold him accountable. Starting from there instead of bullied kid with a heart of gold taken out by truck-kun is just so much better IMO. This is a man who actually needs a second chance, not just someone who needs more time in general.

  • @magicflierplays
    @magicflierplays Жыл бұрын

It's good to point out that with Rudeus having a lot of time on his hands from trying to hide from society, it made him a more depraved high schooler instead. Social issues like bullying will distort any normal person to want to avoid society altogether. But only hiding away in their little santuary 24/7 would make any sane person to feel lifeless, so those that don't have the courage to suicide would often search for things that make them feel brief enjoyment of life, and that would be either drugs, carnal desires, or related to anything else that can raise adrenaline. With Rudeus's mind mentally stuck as a fresh high school student, I would imagine he would be stuck to wanting to sleep with love interests that match his high school age. Of course, he ended up aging and became much older now, so many found him revolting. I personally didn't find a problem with this part of Rudeus considering his background, and he became an admirable father in the light novels.

As a LN reader I have a feeling that majority of anime viewers would not consider what's coming a "redemption arc" per se. There's discrepancy between what most viewers consider Rudy's most flagrant transgression, and how it should be "fixed", and what he himself considers the most important issue to fix. People think that he has to redeem himself for hypersexual behavior. But he wants to redeem himself for failed previous life, for rejecting family and ruining all the connections and future he could have. Hypersexualization is just a side effect of that major mistake he made, it is not a "root of all evil". So when he won't become a shiny paragon of virtue chad of a protagonist it will be a "shitshow in a comment section" once again.

"one small decision changed his life" - that pretty much sums up all of Mushoku Tensei, and is a core feature of the plot. I think fate is a core theme in Mushoku Tensei. In the story, fate is shown to be fickle and unpredictable, while simultaneously being solid and unavoidable. The two strongest characters both have incredible knowledge about the future and how small details change it. However, these characters's knowledge quickly runs out, leading to Rudeus's position in the story to decide his own fate. In short, the future is only known when no actions are taken, and any action (no matter how small) can change your fate. Which is a pretty good message when you think about it.

As someone who’s really fascinated by computers myself, I can really relate to Rudeus in the sense that if I hadn’t made a few decisions in my life to not stay home all the time, I would’ve likely become exactly like him. I hope that there will eventually be an OVA for the prologue because there are so many people who can relate to Rudeus, and it’s a shame that the anime didn’t include the prologue. Not to say that the anime is absolutely incredible, but this little bit would’ve made the anime all the better. Great video but there was one other key mistake he made that led to him being kicked out. Rudy's (we never learn his real name) older brother always used to support him and beleived that one day he'd make a change in his life. Even him not being there for his parents funeral didnt tick the older brother off that much. What caused his older to get angry and lash out at Rudy was the fact that he caught him jerking off to a picture/footage (cant remember which) of the older brothers daughter. Rudy had placed a spy camera in their shower so he could spy on his niece.

I love building PCs and it was my hobby around the time I was his age as well, I saved up and built my PC. But I never stopped there. After a few years of being holed up in my room thanks to Covid I decided to actually try in school, getting my grades up and actually trying I wanted to become an Electrical Engineer. Now here I am about to graduate HighSchool and unfortunately it didnt work out, I moved in the middle of my 11th year and had to switch back to Online classes, causing me to hole up in my room again for another year. Started going back an hour and a half away to my old school again in February and I cant really say I'm any happier, but at least I'm still working to something.

It only got worse and worse as I gained more and more freedoms as an adult. Time also feels like it just burns away so fast. If I wasnt a night shift part-time Casino Dealer making like 36k yr then I would literally be the guy from Welcome to the NHK. Instead, I'm just that guy on my days off. Its like a terrible loop of insomnia from addiction to stimuli and lack of eating from being too lazy to cook or too distracted to remember to eat.

It's wild how his pre-highschool life is so similar to mine, my highschool life wasn't the greatest either but I was never bullied well at least not physically.

This kinda hits close to home, having to be athletic and techie at highschool then went to college, got depressed then computers were my coping mechanism. Went to internet cafes played there from 8 in the morning to 8 in the afternoon. Still that guy but not addicted anymore tho.

This back story hit me harder than most - as I find myself like Rudy, wishing I had done more in school and or noticed my parents were willing to help with everything …plus I’m 34 too While not overweight, I look back to my childhood with much regret - doesn’t help my memories of childhood came flooding in as if they just happened yesterday Meanwhile my friends - when the subject gets brought up, barely remember the events

I believe the reason it was skipped is because the director was basing the anime on the WN series, as attested by what showed on his screen at the very start (in the LN he was watching undefined, implied-to-be-foreign porn, while on the WN he was watching a creepshot video of his niece bathing that he himself shot, in both cases pleasing himself to the video during his parents' funeral). In the WN his past is seldom touched and only a couple of mentions about the day that turned him into a hikki-NEET are made (it's mentioned that he was beaten and tied naked to the school's gate for a perceived transgression, speaking up to bullies), and the only mention made of it to the point currently reached in the anime has appeared when it should. References to the computer that started it all, if I recall correctly, don't come till later. EDIT: just to expand a bit on it, his younger brother tried at first to stop his older brother from getting rowdy, but then he saw that the video he-who-would-be-Rudeus was chocking the chicken to was an amateur voyeur video of his severely underage daughter, he not only stopped trying to stop the carnage, he became the most violent of them all, smashing the computer with a bat and destroying the bat against a filthy incestuous lolicon.

Another thing i noticed is the importance of push back in life. Seens like Rudy barely got any push back or friction as a kid so when you grow older you are unable rise above these problems. Also his family should have gotten mire involved, particularly his parents.

He really did need his parents involved but I think the one who failed him most was his older brother. As an elder sibling you look after the rest and if something so horrible happened to his younger brother by a bunch of punks and being a martial artist. He should have gone down and put a beat down on those punks, hell he may not have won the fight but the fact is it was the though that counts knowing you got your family backing you up.

@@kinghoenn3478 That's a primitive way of tackling the issue. The punks were going to be expelled from school but how is that going to fix Rudeus being publicly humiliated and his pictures spread around and laughed at? You have to be joking dude. Nothing was going to fix the situation no matter what and the only person who could improve his life was himself. What he should have done is move to another town far away and started over. His psychological trauma would still be there but at least he wouldn't be surrounded by people he knew in a town where he was bullied. Even with moving, getting a new name etc. he'd still have his quality of life decreased for a decade or so. His brother is not responsible for how Rudeus decided to be.

4:30 I don't even have any proper way of talking about this part "he's just like me fr fr" is all I can think of. When I discover someone else is better at it than me, it blows away any burning passion for continuing. I'm usually not the type give up easily but when you understand you can't be better even if you try is like the feeling of losing in an argument not because they are right but because you've been wrong the entire time. You feel talentless and don't equate to anything then tread life with no motivation or reason. I any case I'm trying to be better.

What was skipped was his life before that, he was a relatively smart kid, a junior highschooler building a computer by himself a whole 20 years ago was a sign of that (he was 34 at time of death). But the ego boost from that made him flop school and got into a crappy highschool full of delinquents. He still held onto his ego there, and that's what first triggered the bullying.
