Really delved into her story after visiting Sudeley Castle, and it is not an easy thing to read about. The fact that these grown men were accusing a child of being "fast", when in fact she was being assaulted - repeatedly - is sick. That painting of Lady Jane Grey being executed, along with the stories about her having an absolute (and easily understandable) meltdown in the hours leading up to her execution, was equally horrendous. That fat, diabetic, gout ridden fool has a lot to answer for! Glad Parr outlived him, even if she did marry the equally slimy and dangerous Thomas Seymour. Can't stand that guy either. Manipulative little worm of a man.

I disagree strongly that Henvry VIII was cruel or horrible. I believe the artistocracy about him caused the majority of those problems. It was a corrupt cess pool he had to survive in, and the only way you do that is to cut out all infected parts are any parts that show symptoms of possible infection. Similar to Balkan politics. All of those atrocities are blamed on the monarch by the anti-monarchy historians who never blame the merchants, international interests, and aristocratic schemers. Little Catherine Howard was sadly used, abused, and destroyed by a very corrupt system in flux at the time.

I saw a beautiful film years ago that told the story of Catherine as you have, sympathetic to a girl child becoming an innocent adolescent, used and abused by the now famous "patriarchal structure" in its heyday., a story too often still repeated in the world to the anonymous girl and boy children unprotected. History unlearned is history repeated. Thank you.

I've always wondered why Catherine Howard never fell pregnant. It is said that the Duke of Norfolk actually encouraged his niece to get a child by Culpepper. It would seem either Culpepper shot blanks or Catherine was sterile. It's hard to imagine a young fertile woman not falling pregnant. There was certainly plenty of time for her to do so. She must have known a son would have secured her position with Henry. Certainly it is said that her dead cousin Anne Boleyn mocked Henry for his impotence. One wonders how much Henry had been responsible for so many botched births or miscarriages of Catherine of Aragon and Anne Boleyn.

I did not realize Jane Boleyn suffered the same fate as Anne. I cannot even imagine the mental anguish and torture Henry's victims went through. May he be met in hell by the devil himself! A simply heartbreaking story. At 11 a child is a child and can’t be held responsible for the actions of an adult, she was a victim and not someone who has committed treason. I wonder how 'mad' Jane Boleyn really was, I used to be a mental health paralegal and people sectioned mental health issues act in a way that’s a present and immediate danger to themselves or others. They rarely act mad in a way I imagine Jane Boleyn did for it to be picked up on so quickly. I find the Norfolk's role more than a little interesting as they have always been Catholic, they are the primary Catholic family in England. I don't know if it was her uncle or cousin that Henry sentenced to death and the day before he was supposed to be executed Henry died. It was seen as a minor miracle at the time. One thing people forget to mention about King Henry VIII was how large he actually was, not in width but in height. He was a giant of a man. Having seen his armour many times at the tower I’m often amazed how big he was compared to the average Tudor man. Henry stood at 6ft 1in, not that tall by todays standard but the average at the time was 5ft 5in. An imposing figure that’s for sure and I imagine when dressed for battle up on his war horse he would have put the fear of god almighty into all those that opposed him

Here you have poor Cathrine, who was just a child, dangled in front of the King by her uncle much like he dangled Mary and Anne before her. Then there is Jane, who had some how survived the execution of her husband and sister in law, if she gave evidence against them who could blame her? She must have been absolutely terrified. Both of these women were obedient to the head of their family, as they were expected to be and as a result were used and abused before they were thrown away like trash. I cannot imagine the terror they must have felt when they placed their head upon that block.

It’s so wonderful to bring some much needed humanity to individuals from history, who otherwise are remembered as footnotes in the schemes of more powerful figures.

I absolutely adore history and far too often actors and writers stand in the way of truth for the sake of drama when the truth is far more compelling and interesting. I just recently found you and I appreciate your "documentary style" shows. Good storytelling and history! Thanks!🍿📚👏

Cromwell feared Norfolk. she was a pawn for the mechanizations of people who were desperate for power and got used. Norfolk didn’t care one bit about his niece, as long as he got closer to the king then the worst part? Jane Boleyn was her cousin by marriage. Howard’s grandfather was also Viscount Rochford’s grandfather so it was revenge against her own family for her sister-in-law’s murder but turned against her as well thanks to Cromwell covering his tracks.

Bravo! 👏🏼 I really find history interesting, but it was not until I became an adult that I realized this. I remember in highschool history class i was always BORED out of my mind 😅 memorizing dates and names of battles or this and that was not TRULY learning history. I love this kind of information. I have learned I love reading historical fiction & have read several books about the wives of kings. I especially loved reading about Queen Isabella of Castile & her two daughter's lives as well. This is the kind of stuff that really gets me interested. I like to know the lives of the ppl who lived in the past, their struggles, the way society lived and functioned, & I especially love seeing how people dressed. I am happy to have found your channel & it is becoming the channel I watch while I drink my coffee after i wake up in the morning 🌄 🙂
