By 6 minutes in, the guest Nathan has spelled out the failure of Greek orthodoxy not only in Albania but in America. We should not forget that the Greek archdiocese only blessed English for liturgical usage in 1970 (the year the OCA received its Tomos of autocephaly). By 1970, many Greek Americans had families that had been in the country a century. They only began that year to say a few parts of the services in English (it’s still forbidden by the Ecumenical Patriarch to say, “Lord have mercy,” instead of, “κύριε, ελέησον!”) and by that time many people had tuned out and only came for the souvlaki. It’s too late now for the GOA because their Head is a Phanariot who will never understand America whose language is not even his second one. The privileging of Greek to the exclusion of comprehension is killing the church.

Albania is a country held together by shared language (two dialects, Geg and Tosk, actually) and culture. Northern Albania is largely Catholic due to Italian influence and the south half Orthodox and half Bektashi Muslim due to Greek and Turkish influence, respectively. But in no region are many people particularly religious, and the different confessions don’t pose a barrier to national unity because being Albanian is not about having a shared religious confession (as it is in a place like Orthodox Georgia) but sharing language and customs. Albanians were denied access to religion during Enver Hoxha’s regime but they never were, and still aren’t, that into religion. Same goes for expats. They form churches and even dioceses but it’s mostly a cultural association thing for them.

I pray that this movement of the Holy Spirit comes to fruit, and that phyletism be kept at bay. otherwise, it would lead to further schism within the church similar to those within the western rite churches.

I wish albanian people have real experience of presence of Christ! God bless them!

The new testament was experienced in the Greek language....they were bilinguals...and they communicated in lingua franca kf the era that was the Greek

Wowww you’re on an anti-Albanian roll over here. How about you let us Orthodox Albanians that have the stories of our grandparents have a word for once? Only the educated people might have been bilingual! The masses only went to church only knowing a few words like Kyrie eleison and such, and they didn’t understand most of the Liturgy. You think soldiers and peasant farmers were bilingual? I don’t think so. I think Archbishop Anastasios is 100% correct in saying that people abandoned Christianity because they were uneducated in the faith.

@@odetafecani1614 and all the saints..martyrs...omoligites....all over the East Roman Empire who didn't abandon their Saviour..who believed in him from word of mouth to ear....who never abandoned The One Holy Apostolic and for all(cath-olic =for all people of earth) And of course one should speak his shipetar language and write it either in the Athenian alphabet of in the alphabet of Cymean (so called lati ital alphabet)

It’s been written is several alphabets, and some Albanian linguistics have even come up with uniquely Albanian alphabets.

In Northern Epirus ..what is occupied by Shipetar regime....the orthodox faith of the Greeks continued uninterrupted..despite the fierce antihellenic and antichristian efforts of the cabinets of the Sqipetar goverments ever since....one should not forget the tearing down of the St.Athanasius church in Himmara...or in Agioi Saranta...and the forceful tactic of bringing in northern Sqipetars to the autonomous Northern Epirus christian orthodox areas....
