The Tragedy of Ray Kennedy, How He Lived is Sad...

Ray Kennedy was a football legend. A force of nature on the pitch for both Arsenal and Liverpool. But his brilliant career was cut short by a devastating disease. This is the story of how Parkinson's Disease destroyed Ray Kennedy's career.
Ray Kennedy, as we all know was a football legend, and he had quite the journey before his glory days on the pitch. Born on July 28, 1951, in Seaton Delaval, Northumberland, England, Ray's early life was marked by a love for the beautiful game. Growing up in the North East of England, football was like a second language to Ray. He kicked his first ball around at a tender age, honing his skills on the streets with his friends. From those humble beginnings, Ray's passion for the sport only grew stronger.Despite his talent, Ray faced many challenges. The first one being, he struggled with dyslexia, a learning difference that made school very tough for him. But on the football field, he found comfort and success. His natural ability caught the eye of local coaches, who saw his potential and nurtured his talent.

Really love this man when he played for Arsenal. He was majestic. When he moved to Liverpool I still admired him and everything about him and he moved up to greater things I believe at one time he was the most bemedalled player in English football. RIP Ray, a great football legend❤

He gifted me one of the most beautiful moments of being a Liverpool fan! His goal against Bayern Munich in 1981 which qualified Liverpool to the final of European League to eventually win it. RIP LFC Legend! YNWA

Was a great player, one of the most decorated players in the game. Remember getting his autograph outside the old Arsenal Stadium, went to his testimonial at Highbury.

He was magic !! Terry mcdermott came alive whenever ray had that ball, he'd look up, see mcdermott and land the ball on a sixpence for him, it was unbelievable. Souness kennedy mcdermott and case possibly the greatest midfield ever, 2nd only to the brazil 1982 midfield of eder zico socrates and junior !!

I'm more than old enough to have seen and appreciate Ray Kennedy playing for Arsenal, Liverpool and Swansea. My abiding memory of him was that he played a major part in Arsenal's destruction of Liverpool in a league game at Anfield. The next thing you know he had swopped the red shirt of Arsenal for that of the Anfield crew. I also read his biography 'Ray of Hope,' where he detailed his illness - John Toshack, his former Liverpool team mate and by then Ray's manager at Swansea, refused to believe that Ray's illness was a contributory factor in the major episodes of fatigue he suffered and accused him of being lazy. What a sad end to a great career. Sadly, I no longer have Ray's book, I was unwise enough to lend it to someone who never returned it ! RIP Ray.

My uncle Ray, thank you for your kind words! 🙌🏼🖤 It’s really quite strange as neurological disorders run in our family, I have extreme fatigue alongside narcolepsy but Parkinson’s is such a devastating illness to live with! So proud to be related to a legend x

@@rachaelkennedy2134 It's great to hear from you Rachael, you are justified in being proud of your uncle. I'm sorry to learn you have been afflicted with something similar to Ray's condition as I also suffer from fatigue and a condition not unlike your sleep condition, so I feel your pain. Might I ask a (hopefully) small favour regarding the date of Ray's transfer to Liverpool? As I mentioned, I no longer have his book, but I seem to remember Ray's transfer to Anfield occurring around the late autumn after he had played a major part in almost destroying Liverpool in a league game. But Wikipedia states the transfer was in July 1974, which is obviously during the summer, therefore I wonder if that date is correct. I assume you have Ray's book so would you be kind enough to check the date for me. I look forward to hearing from you again.
