The thing with Souness was that he was as hard as nails, could give it and take it but he was also a world class player.

You can't even string a coherent argument together kid..so I'm pretty sure you couldn't play Sunday league

I remember Billy Whitehurst running the Cricketers on Bramall Lane and getting up on the pool table after hours to do Elvis impressions with a cue as a mic stand. Total Blades legend from when football was a competition. I miss those days.
Souness and Dave Mackay, from Edinburgh. Ferguson is from Stirling. They're Scottish not English.

@@BigAndyK Souness played for Liverpool for much of the 80s. Dave Mackay played for Spurs in the 60s. So they both played in English football leagues, as the title says

I'm a Palace fan, and l absolutely loved Terry Hurlock. That was a great Millwall team, albeit for two seasons
I,m probably a bit older than most commentators here but the toughest duel I ever saw was at Tottenham v Burnley in the 1960,s when Mike England and Andy Lockhead used to spend 90 minutes kicking lumps out of each other but at the end of the game still shake hands and walk off in conversation together. A real mens game then,
No mention of Norman “bight your legs” Hunter.

Quite frankly Messi wouldn't have survived for a season if he played in the 80s and before. That's why I think Maradona is/was still far better than Messi.

Nobody talks about Denis Smith of Stoke City anymore. As hard as they come, sometimes borderline psychopath. Any transgression of his code was dealt with - with awesome and ruthless efficiency, and sometimes, brutality.

Billy Whitehurst is the hardest man to ever play football by a mile Been to so many after dinner speeches they all say he was the hardest bar non
The Premier league was only created in the early 90s. A number of these footballers never played in it.
Johnny Giles. Before the Premier League. Probably the best passer of a ball in the UK for most of his career. About 20 years ago, When Saturday Comes named him as the dirtiest footballer of all-time😳.

Blimey thst takes me back! Trevor hockey a little battler with a very thick beard. I rememer when he got promoted with Sheff Utd. They also had a very good winger in Alan Woodward. He looked older than his age due to his grey hair. From a Evertonian.

John Fashanu, despite being a gifted player, disowned his brother Justin after he came out as one of the first openly gay players in the UK. Justin Fashanu hanged himself at the age of 37. John dismissed him as an 'attention seeker'.

In fairness, Robbo was hard for 90 minutes every game and must have been very difficult to play against. Robbo was generally "hard but fair" - I don't remember him "doing" anyone deliberately. Souness could be a Rolls Royce for 89 minutes but if someone needed "doing"...

As a Hearts fan I have idolised Dave Mackay however he may have been hard as nails but was fair with it! He was embarrassed with the photo of him grabbing Bremners shirt but was just back from a leg break and felt that Billy Bremner tried to do it again. Mackay was also a very funny man and a great captain
