Discover the inspiring journey of Steve Heighway, a Dublin-born footballer who became a legend at Liverpool FC. Now that he is retired he looks back on his biggest regret and opens up on his time in the states.
Stephen Derek Heighway, born in Dublin, Ireland, on November 25, 1947, is a distinguished figure in the world of football, both as a former player and an influential figure behind the scenes. Heighway, known for his tenure as a winger with the legendary Liverpool team of the 1970s, grew up in a period of considerable change and development, both in Ireland and the United Kingdom.
His early years were split between Ireland and England, with his family moving to Sheffield when he was young. There, he attended Ecclesall Junior School until 1959, embedding himself in the local culture and beginning to show an interest in football. His education continued at High Storrs School, where he further developed his passion for the sport, before moving to Moseley Hall Grammar School for Boys in Cheadle, near Stockport. This blend of Irish and English influences would play a significant role in shaping his career and identity, both on and off the pitch.

A great player and one of my favourite Liverpool players. Stevie Heighway on the wing. The Kop still sings his name.

@@bowpet6574 mine too mate. I was 10 in 1971 when we reached the cup final and he was a key part of Liverpool success in the 70s.
Bob Paisley said he was like an Olympic athlete with his fast pace. Great player with a style of his own and could play with both feet.
Not a Liverpool supporter but saw him in a game for Liverpool v Newcastle in 1977, our kid being a Liverpool supporter; but he stood out in that game and in my opinion was the best player in the side that day, I truly think he was an underestimated player.
Steve Heighway was a fantastic player. I am glad he played for Liverpool FC.
No mention of some stellar performances in an Ireland shirt

There weren't many - maybe you can remember specific games that I can't. My memory is he never did it for Ireland
Brilliant player: one of my all-time favourites for LFC. Thank you for this feature; you've rekindled many happy memories.
An era of fantastic pure footballers. My favourite, Colin Bell.
A brilliant player for my beloved Liverpool Football Club. God!!! could he ever fly down that wing. His dribbling ability, at speed, was a joy to behold. One of my all time favourites, along with Emlyn Hughes.
Watched many Liverpool games as a boy with Stevie Heighway with 'Gazelle' like poise on the wing. Great player and much underrated. Great coach too.
Great player for my beloved Liverpool thanks Steve ynwa
Fake click bait. Having watched the whole video what rumours? Met him circa 2000/2001 at the Academy we stood and chatted about a player we were watching. He and the whole Academy staff were first rate. He is a legend as a player and as person, highly cerebral. His ability much like Trevor Brooking at crossing with both feet and what seemingly was a 90 degree angle to his run was unbelievable.
OLD school great player
Pure magic.
Great player 🤓👍
A Liverpool legend who doesn't deserve the awful click bait title to this video.
Confirmed the rumours? Click bait avoid this channel

When I was young , 16 or 17 , football wasn’t as frequently broadcasted in Belgium as it is now . Liverpool though , we could watch frequently . I remember the famous Belgian football commentator Rik de Saedeleer , ( nearly ) each time Steve Heighway had the ball saying …. “ … Heighway … the only player in Englands first division with a bachelor degree “. He repeated that time after time , game after game . That’s why I remember him forever
I think he still runs down the wing to this day when the Kop sings one of their Anthems.
Watched him until I emigrated to Canada in 74 As a winger I admired him Brian Hall Little Bamber I liked him too but no Heighway Wonderful Wonderful memories
Loved his rims up the wing
Now that he's retied, he retied over 40 years for f### sake.
My dad told me as a kid, if you want to learn how to play football watch Steve Heighway. We both thought he was an underrated star in the Liverpool team
