Cereal straws were no joke. When I was little, kids all thru my school loved those things, even older ones too. Whoever came up with that idea is an absolute genius in mind and child at heart, it's just the most perfect combo they coulda pulled

Bananas could go that way! I believe it was a fungus decimating trees because banana grafting for farming resulted in fewer variations making them vulnerable. I'm reminded of history shows talking about how Bananas tasted different as there were more available varieties. As a lover of banana bread, I just hope the banana extinction doesn't happen in my time.
@pennyforyourthots
Жыл бұрын
@@trashcatlinol I mean, it wouldn't be bananas going extinct, just these specific variety that we eat right now. They're actually used to be a different variety of bananas that was popular back in the day (around the 1950s I believe) that DID go extinct, which is by artificial banana flavor doesn't taste like bananas, it tastes like the old extinct bananas. Realistically, we will probably just cultivate another variety of bananas to be similar enough to the current ones, it would just take a while and probably a lot of genetic engineering, but it would probably be far faster than back in the day where you literally had to wait for plants to grow and reproduce to select the genes you wanted. Bananas collectively probably won't go extinct, but even if the current variety does, you'll probably still be able to eat something very similar.
When Monster first came out with the rehab line they had a flavor called Rojo Tea which I absolutely loved. I was crushed when they discontinued it.

That wasn't the only reason those things came back: There was a time a few years ago where 90s Nostalgia was huge thus prompting a Nostalgia Fad (like the one the Boomers had back in the 80s). Nickelodeon in its heyday made a comeback, The Lion King made a comeback, Nirvana made a comeback, Steve Urkel made a comeback, Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo made a comeback, and so did 90s Snacks and Beverages (although it took one internet guy to bring back Crystal Pepsi. Look up The LA Beast for reference). So it's primarily thanks to the Gen Y Nostalgia Fad that stuff like 3D Doritos and Dunkaroos even got to make a comeback.

The 3d chips are not the same 😭 they were much more airy and puffy back then now they are as hard as regular doritos
I remember grabbing a crystal Pepsi back when they re-released it and was absolutely amazed how exactly it tasted like Pepsi. No weird taste or after taste. It was nuts
I got so nostalgic when I saw the Pokemon spinning tops during the cereal segment. I had a Jigglypuff one when I was like 8 years old. Never would have thought of that again.
Something I never see people talk about in these, "nostalgic food", videos are the A Bugs Life popsicles with the gummies in them. I. Frickin'. I haven’t had cereal straws since I was maybe 7 or younger but I still remember what they taste like. Sad I’ll never get to try it again
I remember around the same time of the green and purple ketchups came out, there was a butter company that made a squeezable colored margarine thought I remember distinctly because I remember going to my grandma's and she bought that for me in blue because of the time it was my favorite color, and we used it on pancakes. That would probably be something if you do another entry of this. I distinctly remember this as squeezable liquid margarine that came and colors like blue and pink and I think also green and purple. I only remember buying the blue and I remember one of my friends being excited about the pink one.

Margarine used to be colored pink due to butter companies not wanting it to be confused for butter. I do not remember the rainbow butter..... closest we got was a whipped blueberry, cinnamon, and strawberry butter. Don't remember the brand. I was shocked when the school served us flavored cream cheese... I didn't like it at first, until I figured out what cream cheese was. It was just very unexpected. Love flavored cream cheese now, though I never buy it for myself.... probably for the best. Sounds awesome, though! And so sweet! My great grandma loved blueberry butter on English muffins. It was my favorite part of breakfast because flavored butter was a treat. Edit: after a while thinking on it, and rereading the post, I DO remember those squeeze bottles of butter! We wanted to get them for corn on the cob but mom always said no. She didn't like parkay. She changed her mind when they came out with spray butter.

What you said about the cereal straws, remembering them on a Saturday morning watching cartoons hit so hard man take me back 😂 cartoons were fire back then as well TMNT, Yu-Gi-Oh, avatar, xiolin showdown
I definitely remember the Kelloggs Pokémon cereal. I was so excited when my mom bought it that I couldn't wait til the next morning to eat it. Opened it when I got home and saw that I got a poliwag toy. Good memory
I was a big ketchup lover as a kid. I tried the purple ketchup. It was disgusting. It had a different texture and tasted off, likely from the mass amount of artificial coloring they had to use to fulfill the novelty. I couldn't even finish the bottle.
@kyleellis1825
Жыл бұрын
Really? I far preffered it to red ketchup because it wasn't as runny and not as sweet.
I was obsessed with the purple ketchup as a kid. I remember it being a bit gritty in texture but I didn’t care because I love that it was purple.
I miss 2000's promo food. I remember 2 specific ones not featured here too; both monsters Inc movie related. The first one was a yoghurt that included a monster inc sticker to get you to buy them, but the cool thing was the pot itself was a giant plastic building block like lego. After monsters inc ended they still kept going for a while, it was really weird they didn't continue it though. The other was also a yoghurt but called Mike Mazowski's eyeballs. It was a round pot with green yoghurt that had a black circle in the center. The cool part was the green stuff turned your tongue green! I think it was vanilla flavour too.

The re-released crystal pepsi is my all time favorite soda, it was sweet but not overbearing, I wish they kept making them. I think I still have a bottle somewhere.

Some may remember, but I remember having a Doritos flavor chip that has two flavors in one bag. One of the collision bags that I used to eat are pizza cravers and ranch
Randomly watching this while eating and I just had such a nostalgia rush from almost everything I saw in this video. Really makes me miss growing up in the 90s and 2000s

I remember the green ketchup being good, I also remembered colored hotdog and ham burger buns. I think what I miss most is the crunchie bar cereal, it was too good.
It's kind of wild to hear about these. I remember these, but then I moved to another country. Cereal Straws never really disappeared there. They just weren't advertised as Cereal Straws. Doritos 3D have always been a thing there. So hearing that they disappeared in the US was pretty wild, because they've always been around in other places.
Seeing this, I remembered the old Irn Bru ice creams you could get (in England). My sister always loved them but one day they just stopped making it. The interesting thing is that once my sister found one of them at the bottom of a freezer in a corner shop... It went out of date in 2014. We found it in *2021*. I wish none of these foods had been discontinued! I love foods with novelty flavor and color variations. Also! I'm ready for the return of the clear craze!!
I think now would be a fine time to reintroduce Nintendo cereal. Maybe do some Kirby or Fire Emblem cereal to go along with it. Other than that I’d be interested in seeing McDonalds bring back the Beefsteak Sandwich sometime. Hell while they could still be sold, why not also have a vote on what international menu Item that American consumers would want to try. Also I would love to see them reintroduce Crystal Pepsi in a matter akin to how they have Mtn Dew Baha Blast available in retail temporarily

Theres something specifically about pokemon on products like cereal or lunchboxes that give me even more nostalgia than the cards and show themself, it somehow perfectly captures the time period to me :')
My great uncle loved crystal pepsi so much that when he found an old bottle by pure chance and drank it all with no regrets
Apparently as a kid I loved the purple ketchup, once it was discontinued I refused to eat normal ketchup. I wonder if that has something to do with how I still dont like ketchup to this day. Also, my mum loves crsytal Pepsi, when they had a special re-release a handful of years ago, she bought so much of it.
My grandma got that green ketchup once when I was a kid, I REFUSED to eat it, I thought it had gone bad 😂
OMG cereal straws. I loved those things so much, I'm so sad I can't get them anymore 😭
you ever noticed how every bottle of coke says coke classic or original tase on it? That's where new coke comes in it was a new formula for coke, it was before my time so I can't comment on the taste but apparently the backlash was so bad that original coke sales skyrocketed
There is something truly tragic about foods that are no longer produced. Stuff like video games, dvds, music cds, books, comics, general collectibles… they don’t truly gage unless you don’t take care of them. Not unless it’s truly enough time for paper and plastic to yellow, you don’t normally see the age. But foods are just so temporary. People throw out leftovers in under a month kept in the fridge. So many of these foods will just never be experienced again, because you simply can’t find any of it that’s fresh with all of its original taste retained.
I seriously haven’t thought about the original Pokémon cereal in probably 20 years. Somehow or another I had one of those toys and never knew where it came from until just now.
I loved the cereal straws. Also anyone remember yogos? The jelly candy with a yogurt shell? I miss them

a couple other later 90s/early 00s discontinued foods i remember: Swoops which were almost potato chip-shaped chocolates i only ever got the Hershey's milk chocolate version but they had other variants based on other chocolate brands; Vertigo lollipops which were a large piece of chocolate on a stick with a thin lollipop strip attached.

Cereal straws were pretty good,3D doritos were just another shape, around 2018-2019 they were making green shrek ketchup and it's once again just ketchup. I did try Crystal Pepsi when they re-released it the aftertaste was a little off but other than that normal.
Cereal straws so so freaking awesome, man. Crystal Pepsi on the other hand, somehow was even worse than regular Pepsi.
Man I remember cereal straws since I’m a 2000s late millennial kid as I was born in 1999. I also remember those wacky straws too. Was the 2000s just the decade for straws?
LMAO, in the summer of 2007, we stayed over a family friend's house. We DEMOLISHED every single straw within a few hours. Tummy aches from too much milk, but was worth it.
The discontinued food I miss the most is probably The Jimmy Neutron Funky Fries, I loved eating blue fries as a kid ^^
I remember my dad picked green ketchup up, it was weird as hell lol, I remember not eating it after the initial trial, but this was also just about 20 years ago
The only one of these products I've ever had was the Froot Loops cereal straws when I was in middle school. I didn't like milk but the few times I got that edible tube made of vividly colored wafer in my lunchbox I'd gulp that shit down. I didn't know they returned! I've got to pick some up to fill that nostalgia-shaped hole in my heart. (Edit: I've also had the Apple Jacks flavor but it didn't leave a mark on me)
Crystal Pepsi had to only be in select big city areas because I did not see it anywhere or realized it was 'back'. At least Coca-Cola had the decency to put a word out Surge was available for a limited time. Bought maybe five cases of it myself. A month or two before that it had to be located via website through some vendor (e.g, Fantasy Games tabletop and card shop) because... reasons. I still have one of those chip canisters from back then. A couple were saved and used to keep my Lego figurines in one place.
I remember the different coloured ketchup It did taste different and was a lil chunkier than regular heinz ketchup - I remember being put off by purple chunks in my food
I distinctly remember Parkay releasing two squeeze butters. Nothing wrong with that. The twist? They were baby pink and baby blue. Made corn on the cob look interesting.
