BlackTree TV's Jamaal Finkley sits down with the 1 and only Johnny Depp to discuss his new movie The Tourist. We talk about him meeting Angelina Jolie and his first time abroad.
JOHNNY DEPP (Frank Tupelo) most recently headlined an all-star cast as the Mad Hatter in the worldwide box office hit Alice in Wonderland. Prior to that, he starred as real-life criminal John Dillinger opposite Christian Bale and Academy Award® winner Marion Cotillard in Michael Mann's Public Enemies, and received his third Academy Award nomination for Best Actor for Tim Burton's Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, winning a Golden Globe Award® for the role.
Depp is currently in production on Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, reprising his role as Captain Jack Sparrow. Depp played the pirate captain a third time in Gore Verbinski's Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, after Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest earned more than $1 billion, making it the third largest-grossing movie of all time. He received his first Academy Award® nomination, as well as a Golden Globe Award nomination, a British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Award nomination and a Screen Actors Guild Award for his portrayal of Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.
In 2005, Depp collaborated with Burton on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, for which he received a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical, and Burton's "Corpse Bride," which received an Academy Award® nomination for Best Animated Film in 2006.
Depp received his second Academy Award® nomination, as well as a Golden Globe Award® nomination, Screen Actors Guild Award® nomination and BAFTA nomination for his role as J.M. Barrie in Marc Forster's Finding Neverland, in which he starred opposite Kate Winslet and Freddie Highmore.
In 2004, Depp starred in The Libertine as 17th-century womanizing poet John Wilmot, the Earl of Rochester. Other screen credits include David Koepp's Secret Window, Robert Rodriguez's Once Upon a Time in Mexico, Albert and Allen Hughes' From Hell, Ted Demme's Blow, Lasse Hallström's Chocolat, Julian Schnabel's Before Night Falls, Sally Potter's The Man Who Cried, Burton's Sleepy Hollow, Roman Polanski's The Ninth Gate, Terry Gilliam's Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Mike Newell's Donnie Brasco with Al Pacino, Jim Jarmusch's Dead Man, and Jeremy Leven's Don Juan DeMarco, in which he starred opposite actors Marlon Brando and Faye Dunaway.
It was Depp's compelling performance in the title role of Tim Burton's Edward Scissorhands that established him as one of Hollywood's most sought-after talents, and earned him a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Actor. He was honored with another Golden Globe Award nomination for his work in the offbeat love story Benny & Joon, directed by Jeremiah S. Chechik.
Depp reunited with Burton for the critically acclaimed Ed Wood and his performance garnered him yet another Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Actor. Other films include Lasse Hallström's What's Eating Gilbert Grape, Emir Kusturica's Arizona Dream and John Badham's Nick of Time.
Depp began his career as a musician with the rock group named Kids, which took him to Los Angeles. When the band broke up, Depp turned to acting and earned his first major acting job in A Nightmare on Elm Street. He followed that with roles in several films including Oliver Stone's Academy Award®-winning Platoon before landing the role that would prove to be his breakthrough, as undercover detective Tom Hanson on the popular TV show "21 Jump Street." He starred on the series for four seasons before starring as the title character in John Waters' Cry-Baby.
Depp starred and made his feature directorial debut opposite Marlon Brando in The Brave, a film based on the novel by Gregory McDonald. He co-wrote the screenplay with his brother, D.P. Depp.
Depp recently starred in Terry Gilliam's The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus and will next be seen in The Rum Diary, based on Hunter S. Thompson's novel, for director Bruce Robinson and producer Graham King. He also lends his voice to Gore Verbinski's "Rango."

@@floriart2739 you know he's only 5'6 to 8". He's just a little guy! Not a tall model like guy. I think he's about right. My husband is 5'7". Just the right height for me! Any taller than 5'8", my neck breaks to kiss them, in a standing position. I liked in his quotes, he says he plays in bed, so a woman never leaves unsatisfied. Now, with this interview, I think maybe he's speaking the truth...

And, yes, he can wear anything! He's Johnny 'freaking' Depp! In 6 yrs since your 1st post, on this bunch of comments, life as you knew it kinda blew up for Johnny Depp! ATurd told 1 lie, Disney, fired him. Did they ask if it was true? If he was alright? Nope. They fired him inside 10 minutes of her lie going public. He also was forced to resign from the Grinderald movie, not because JK Rowling wanted it, but because the WB wanted too! But, Johnny got his $16,000,000. because he had it in his contract that if he worked 1 day, he would receive the amount of the whole contract. I think he might still get residuals from the Jack Sparrow, & POTC merch! His career was done. Now, I have to get into bed, warm up, & wait for MY; SweetieBabe HoneyBun to come to bed. But, honestly, he needs a few hours away from me, daily, & since Covid-19, I've found I need a few hours away from him, every day, too.

I love that he asks the interviewer about himself before he even introduces Johnny, then shows a real interest and shares something they have in common. What a gentleman. And he felt so uncomfortable when he said what a huge star Johnny is that he had to deflect with a joke. Then he displays his tactile nature by touching the interviewer to express his sincere gratitude for his appreciation of his work. Literally one of the nicest guys in Hollywood
You can tell initially the interviewer was nervous and Johnny just started to engage with him for him to relax, it’s so sweet and endearing that he would be that concerned for him.

How nice when the interviewer gave Johnny a compliment, and Johnny reaches out to shake his hand, and say a kind word to him. I would be so nervous if I had to interview someone like Johnny. But, he puts people at ease. Way to go Johnny!

I think especially in this interview Johnny Depp is so kind to put the interviewer at ease. If you listen carefully: Johnny is the one who asks the first question. He is reserved and polite so he makes it easy for the interviewer to talk to him. Johnny Depp is the best actor I´ve ever seen. He is never stuck up but always down-to-earth. That´s why I love him :-)

So many commenting on how lovely Johhny is, and thats true ofcourse, but almost nobody talks about Jamaal. The truth is Johnny is an extreme introvert, and Jamaal seem to understand this and manipulate the energy in the room to put Johnny at rest. This is a masterpiece in how to handle ppl in a way that makes them feel good. The way he sits down and lean back in the beginning instead of moving towards a handshake, the way he smalltalk to put Jonny at ease. Very good job sir!

The Platoon experience was really a baptism by fire for his first international trip!
Not sure but it seems like the interviewer is a bit nervous at the beginning and Johnny started so he can get a bit more comfortable.. I might be wrong but it wouldn't be a surprise since Johnny knows how it feels himself being nervous during such interviews :)
