Is this the toughest job on earth? Working outside, all day, in the coldest place on earth. The city of Yakutsk, Russia, where temperatures can fall to -81°F, -63°C. Sounds like torture right? Well, this is just life for so many in the World's coldest city and the remote arctic region of Yakutia, Siberia. But how do they survive outside all day in the harsh winter temperatures. The cold here in Yakutsk can be unforgiving and the market sellers here have to take unique & drastic precautions every single day just to head to work in the market and make some money. But how do they do it? What makes these hardy people so special? Well, lets head to Yakutsk central market, spend some time with these people, and find out!

I lived in Colorado, USA for many years and worked as a television videographer. Here's my hint for your camera, wrap it with something that will also hold a hand warmer. My cameras came with a cover that looked like a yellow rain slicker. I padded the cover, and put the hand warmer under the battery. I could work all day at -20F, when my competitors were at home sipping cocoa (but not getting paid).

Your better off to get beaver wool or otter to wrap around, hand warmers are useless. They don't even work for -5C. Just buy yourself a beaverskin mitt and make a cut out for your camera and if possible screw it to the glove to hug it around. much better, and than you'll never have to F around again. Coming from someone who has lived in northern Canada my entire life and filmed my work of diamond drilling which can wet and cold. Oh and make sure to put the slicker jacket piece outlining the beaver skin mitt piece for water proofing, and wrap it around like a curl to seal with the screws to seal for no water damage and max heat protection.

Sounds like a good solution for you. Beaver and otter skin are not readily available in USA. I did some camera work for a Canadian drilling company. We were in the hot dry desert in Nevada, and the cool but nice mountains of Colorado. I never needed my cold weather gear.@@daniellysohirka4258

Wow! You two are like a little Natonal Geographic program! Yakutsk is beautiful in winter. I had no idea about the fog - it makes the landscape a bit mysterious. I loved what the lady said - that people live in hot climates and she lives in the cold and to her, it's normal. It's so wonderful that you both can speak the language, especially because there are lots of people who don't speak English and you can speak to them about their lives. Well done. Very well done. I loved this video. Love to you both, Suzi.

Thank you! I enjoyed this so much. I’ve read a lot about Siberia and always been fascinated with remote places. I am 50 years old and hope to finally one day travel on the Transiberian Railway. I watched the video of you guys traveling by train. Also, my son’s father is Russian and lived 200 km east of Abakan on a river. I never unfortunately had the opportunity to travel to Siberia. My son also never has. But hopefully one day, somehow. My son and I live in Latvia. Have you ever been? There are plenty of Russians here so language won’t be a problem. Anyway, I liked the way you highlighted the friendliness of the people. I was so pleased to see that. A human connection is most important. Also the connection with nature. So thx again! I look foreward to the next remote spot!! Live, love and laugh🌏🤗🌻

This April my wife and I are off to Paphos in Cyprus to enjoy the sights. When you two get back to civilization, you both should get yourselfs to a nice place in the sun, and enjoy a great beach and swimming in warm waters.!! Get some sun on your deprived bodies. Best Wishes Dave.

The key to warm feet is a roomy, insulated boot, and good socks. A thin silk sock, with a good wool sock over it, is one way to go. A tight boot will freeze your feet, no matter how well it is insulated. A roomy boot has an envelope of air circulating around your feet, and that makes all the difference. Be sure the boot also has a thick, insulated insole, and a roomy toe box. Rubber boots are not recommended. They don't breathe, and they make your feet sweat, and then the sweat freezes.

It is late here in Ohio 2.00 am. The temp here today in February was over 50 degrees. Incredible. I was working on something and this video popped up. I would have saved it for tomorrow but the reference to Yakutsk caught me. I have a board game called "Risk" and Yakutsk is one of the territories found in the game. Hooked. This was a fabulous video because it shows the resilience of human kind. Who would ever choose to live and work in these condition everyday? Remarkable. Julia still has a smile, a giggle and a laugh hidden away under all those clothes. Nice!

I wouldn’t survive those sort of temps. We had very cold spell back in December which it went down to -13°C in the U.K. some areas was slightly colder but what made it worse was that we had snow which was a surprise because it wasn’t forecast and pretty much turned it into ice during the cold.

The northern most town in the USA is Barrow Alaska, same type deal as where your video was filmed. It's farther north then town your in but built on permafrost. If you crossed the bering strate from Siberia to Russia it would still be several 100 km North It's where in the Winter time they have 23 and a 1/2 hours of darkness and a little bit of light they have circles the circles the sky instead of rising and setting it's like that for a About 6 weeks in the fall and in the Spring until you actually get a sunrise in the East and a set in which still doesn't bring the sun up very high in the sky Karma but they cover their cars in the same type of portable garages they do in the city you're in because if they shut it off it won't start again until late Spring early summer.Just thought it was interesting.
