"Rest in Professional" is going to be my response to "SLEEP WHEN YOU'RE DEAD RISE AND GRIND" type folks from now on
I love how they named the company Oceangate, like they knew something scandalous woud happen to it.
"Titanic was a tragedy, but The Titan is a dark comedy." Perfect way to put it.
I feel like if you're born with a name like 'Stockton Rush' you need to just avoid all hyper-capitalist activities, if only because it sounds like the name of a bad guy from the BioShock game series.

Or the hero of an Ayn Rand novel.
i looked up the Pisces III rescue and, horrifyingly, the margin of rescue was even smaller: the rescuers got to work on opening the submersible the second they found it, and by the time they got it open, Pisces III had only 12 MINUTES of oxygen remaining. spine-chilling.
A fun little DP note - DP is why, if you drive your car into a body of water, you need to roll the window down and let the car fill almost completely with water before trying to open the door. The water pressing against the dry car makes it almost impossible to open & you'll tire yourself out before you get a chance to escape, but once the water's on both sides of the door it's no longer DPing you & you can open the door normally. **The More you know**

Yeah Mythbusters did an episode testing this in a car and a swimming pool and if you fight your instinct to panic and wait it out you're more likely to survive. But also if you have something to break your car windows that works too

Has anyone seen that "delta p" video? It's been here for many years, but for some reason a few years ago it came up in everyone's recommended feed. It was just weird, very dry tone, unclear who it's for (but it's gotta be part of an instructional/educational program for commercial divers, though it's still not the right tone, idk).

@@yourlocalnerd7788As for breaking the window, a fine point is better than blunt force, cos usually not easy. They sell cheap lil machined metal things, or put them on the end of things like folding knives & flashlights. 👍

I can totally open a door with two cocks inside me, that's just a skill issue. (For some actual DP horror look up Byford Dolphin accident, just DON'T at the images).
I don't know if y'all have seen the video of this thing being constructed, but the way they paint on the glue that held the two titanium rings on led me referring to it almost exclusively as the Papier-mâché Submarine
If you were still curious - a change in the volume of a container of a gas will change the temperature of the gas because of the Ideal Gas Law Pressure volume and temperature are all related. So changing the volume of the container of gas (or shitbox death trap submersible full of oxygen) compresses the air so fast and so hard that the temperature skyrockets. The oxygen reaches its ignition temperature and the air catches fire Deeper dive - pressure is a measure of the molecules of gas in a container bumping around, knocking into each other and pushing against the sides of the container. So yes, it is basically friction
As I am listening to this, a headline popped up on my computer with OJ Simpson's death, and all I can think about is the episode The Witches are going to make about him.
Thalassophobia is the term y'all are looking for. Fear of the deep sea.
It sounds like PH Nargeolet joined Oceangate because he thought his experience would allow him to spot warning signs and call off a dive before things went wrong... but he was also fatalistic in a "we'll die instantly if anything goes wrong, which wouldn't be too bad" sort of way. I've heard people who knew him say that his wife's death had dealt a serious blow to his mental health, which would explain the fatalism but makes his part of the story even sadder.
It was all just such an easily avoidable tragedy. A real shame.

When it comes to fears, I'm afraid of both space and the deep ocean I don't mind swimming or snorkeling, but I would never. Basically, I'm afraid of being anywhere where I can't reach. That's what freaks me out

Don't ever shoot this guy into a big water orb in space😂
Fun fact: For every additional atmosphere of pressure, the volume of a gas under that pressure wants to decrease by half. So just take the volume of the submersible and divide it by two 400+ times. How many adult men would fit in that space?
“Problem solve an implosion” is one of the most savage things I’ve ever heard holy shit
This was a great Episode of Well There's Your Problem. You guys need to do a crossover with them
Been bingeing episodes, just finished the Kissinger episode, got a vodka/tequila/shandy potion in me, and I love these legends. Keep doing what you’re doing.

It’s not a profession as in how you earn income. It’s an occupation, like “gentleman”-ie “i’m rich enough to do what i want”
Fun fact, air planes are not actually pressurized to sea level pressure. They are pressurized to around 3km altitude pressure, but they do this gradually and based on the actual altitude of the airplane.
If it was a one man thing there'd be no loss, the hubris on that guy to choose to leave the thing uncertified for depth, what other outcome could they have expected? :/ It sucks that he took others with him but the world doesn't need rich idiots who'll kill themselves and others to save a few quid

The only one I feel sorry for is the 19-year-old who, let's be honest because we're talking about billionaires - probably had an abusive relationship with his father. Like he literally didn't want to be there. The other 80% is just "fuck around and find out"

Yeah, like that Flat Earther who made his own steam powered "rocket" that had his machine kill him. It's one thing to take yourself out with your dumb idea, but once you have a body count...
Smallest note: it was a XInput Logitech controller for PCs, basically an Xbox controller, and it uses Wi-Fi protocol to communicate - I know this because I actually used to own one.
Its okay Hoots, I got the neopets reference.
Mandy stumbled on a near-truth with the commentary about Space Angel sounding like a teens from space show: one of the aborted attempts to adapt Sailor Moon into a live action show for the US market was called Team Angel, which swapped the Sailor Scouts for angel girls instead (though I think they still had the planetary associations?).
Space Angels would 100% be a Neopets Flash game
An act of hubris, justly rewarded by an act of physics. Mother nature gives no f#%&s.

Apparently, after the death of his first wife, Nargeolet's mental health was questionable and his risk tolerance went up a lot.
I don’t know why, but “Sonar trickster Steve” killed me. Shut up and take my subscription.
Ps5, xbox and switch controllers are only $70 and are notorious for drifting after only a few months I would not be thrilled if my multimillion dollar sub was being controlled by one lol

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS, I WAS HOPING AND PRAYING FOR THIS ONE!!
The sound of the carbon fibre cracking would have freaked me out too - it does indeed sound like glass slowly cracking under pressure which is kinda what it was. I'm claustrophobic too and not skinny so yup i wouldn't have got into it.
having a killer episode of insomnia tonight so lets gooo! new respect the dead to keep me company for a little while!!
.... how long till someone tries to build a tube to go visit the titan....
Oh nice, yes, I'll enjoy this one
I mean I gotta listen to the extended cut... but you're still getting a like & comment here
We need to spread this so news anchors can compare measurements in units of Caelan instead of expressed in number of sportsball fields.
We all live in a white submersible...
Love you 3 ❤ excellent, I always learn something xxx
compressing a gas (or any substance) causes it to increase in temperature because the molecules being compressed pick up kinetic energy, and basically more energy means higher temperature. diesel engines don't have spark plugs like petrol engines because the heat from compressing the fuel air mixture in the cylinder is enough to ignite the fuel
@QuikVidGuy

If I remember my high school chemistry right, it's more that when the molecules are closer together, so they collide more. In an enclosed space, temperature, pressure, and volume always have to multiply to the same number unless gas is added or displaced
I remember there was a rich-family furry on twitter saying it could have been him (he did space tourism), and know he knows everyone would have laughed at him.
On the one hand, the guy going with his son did trust the company. But on the other hand, it seems like a bit of research would tell them the company was bad.
banging episode
Oooh looking forward to this!!👀
Yall intro had me crying laughing 😅😅😅😅... Didn't expect that
Binoculars and lifeboats wouldn't have saved more than a few lives in Titanic, especially not binoculars as those are only used to help identify something you've already spotted from a distance. They were still launching lifeboats in Titanic's final moments, so they didn't have time to launch more. The combination of the clear weather, the ship's speed, and the failure to heed ice warnings is what doomed Titanic.

The Californian's radio operators staying up might have saved a lot more lives. It's not their fault but had that ship got there in time they could have saved a lot of people.

so the true end of the titanic movie is Jack's ribcage crushing and head cracking and finally he's eaten by crabs and worms and isopods and such
Yes, this is what I was waiting for 💜💅🏻

Babes, I have set up my camp chair, my tent and my hotspot in preparation for the episode on Harrison Ford, that utter garbage person. One of these days...
You can buy third party controllers for consoles. Also, the Bluetooth transceiver was interfacing with the computer on board the submersible, not the mother ship. It's a terrible design any way you look at it. All of this so some rich boy who was told how special he was every day could do a thing that requires expertise and shared knowledge. I'm just sad he killed a bunch of people instead of just himself with his hubris.
The money was ALREADY SPENT to make and develop the submersibles. That move was not a smart business plan. Also, replacing the hull every three years sounds like a false economy.
Sorry, but I don’t have any sympathy for people like this or for people dying up on Mount Everest just to take a selfie and posted on Instagram. The most delusional thing about this whole Ocean Gate tragedy was how these paying adrenaline junkies insisted upon being called mission specialists by both themselves and Stockton rush.
@Spamhard
Ай бұрын
I'm pretty sure Stockton had to call them 'mission specialists' becauses there's laws in place about tourists being taken down to the Titanic. Like it can't be a tourist venture, so he relabelled and pretended this was research with 'mission specialists'. It's not the payers who demanded they get called that. Either way, I still have no sympathy for people dropping the price of a home (in some places) just to see a sunken ship through a tiny murky window.

I agree that refugees dying in the sea just for the 'crime' of trying to escape from horrible situations deserve our sympathy way more and they often get demonised instead.
