Malcolm Butler did step up and stop the last drive the Seahawks tried during that game, but he didn't even come close to beating the Seahawks all on his own. The Patriots won due to a number of factors. 1. They played well on offense and put up enough points to force the Seahawks into having to make a last minute drive in order to possibly win the game. 2. The defense as a whole slowed the Seahawks just enough to allow the Patriots to have said lead during the final minutes. 3. Pete Carroll and the OC made a boneheaded decision when they decided to try to throw the ball when they had a timeout and a beast of a running back in Marshawn Lynch. I mean, it makes no sense when you have a timeout left not to run the ball from the 1. If he gets stuffed, then hey, call timeout and then try to pass. The point is Malcom Butler gets way more credit than he deserves for that play. Sure, he made a great play and he deserves credit, but up until that point in the game, he hadn't done much at all. To that point, he'd only made three tackles with three pass deflections. That's hardly being beaten by one man. Sealing a win and stopping a comeback attempt is not the same as dominating someone all game and being the primary reason your team won. Butler wasn't the primary reason the Patriots won. His play at the end was just the icing on the cake. Even if the Seahawks had scored there, Tom Brady still would have had 20+ seconds left to try to get the Patriots into field goal range to force overtime. They had Stephen Gostkowski also who, at the time, had kicked field goals from as far out as 62 yards. It's not unheard of for Brady to chuck it down the field against a prevent defense for 10-15 yards at a time, calling timeout after each play, and getting into field goal range. 20 seconds with two or three timeouts is an eternity in the NFL.

Cool vid, I gotta say though, that whole comment from Sherm about never letting one man beat them. Unless Sherm's only knowledge of Brady was the media (Wich at the time seemed to be the case) he would never have thought those words let alone blurted them out live on camera. Brady never in his career put himself above his team, Brady is and was the consummate team player. It was, however, and is and will always be the Media that puts special players up on pedestals to be shot down for their own gain. Also, Brady had a few "signature" plays in SB 49, like, the TD pass to Lefeal in the first, the TD to Amandola, and the last scoring drive in the 4th, Brady was unflappable after making some uncharacteristic mistakes and the beating Bennet and Chaceler laid on him and Edelman. Rising up is what Brady does best. Still, you are right in that, this was one year that the heat was on Brady and he indeed had a lot to stand up to. Brady has a pretty good record of shoving the words of would-be upstarts back down their throats but, that year for sure the nay-sayers and arm-chair QB's were coming out of the woodwork. I remember the interview he had with Randy Moss shortly after the KC nightmare, he was pretty surprised at some of the comments coming at him and after that interview, the talking heads gloves came off, fortunately so did Brady's. Then there was that ridiculous deflate-gate shit-show! Anyway's, those are just my HO, I enjoyed this. Thanks for the vid.
