Breaks my heart as a Greek to watch our beautiful church turned into a mosque. That’s one thing everyone in this world should respect. Places of worship should not be used politically. Thank you for showing us it’s beauty that has been masked.

The christians also didn't respect the pagan groups & places of worship that they invaded, converted, and propagandised for their own gain.

I actually loved what Atatürk did with it. Coming together and share the love for God and not dividing people.... Well sadly Erdogan uses everything was his political agenda.

Yes, as an Australian, I have huge respect for Ataturk as well, as he accepted our fallen soldier dead at Gallipoli as ‘sons of Turkey’ after the First World War. And the Anzac dawn service we hold every year on Anzac Day at Gallipoli for our fallen soldiers is with the permission of the Turkish government. And religion has always been used politically throughout history and even today, so well done Ataturk.

Ohhhhhh My Goodness....... I just didn't want it to end....Ollie - I LOVE it when you go all history nerd on us. Please continue to do it as I learn so much. Steph - you looked so beautiful in that shawl on the ferry although a tad chilled. I have friends that are in Istanbul right now and I shared this with them so they can learn a thing or two if they missed out on something. The history just astounds me. How did they ever get that ceiling done in those times without all the incredible technology we have to us today. Just incredible. And of course Turquoise is from there ! (said making myself with a wet fish) it all makes so much sense now, Thank you again, and again and again. A frustrated traveller from Australia.

Have learned so much! Just have found more of an appreciation than I had before. Think you will save money this way, by sharing a room, and can imagine it would be easier for Stephanie to rest with a dear friend like Oliver right in the same room, and protecting her from what, we probably would never know, but it is a nice idea anyway! Thanks to both of you for taking this time to travel and share so much history and the fantastic times you do share together as you tour.

Stephanie and Ollie, as your Istanbul travel vlog brings out in impressively colorful detail, the impact of the exquisite beauty and grandeur of its architectural wonders never fails to overwhelm. To think that at one time I had an opportunity to reside in the city permanently but in the end I returned to California. If I’d stayed on I might be an Oriental/Turkish rug shop owner in the Besiktas District these days. Who knows?! One thing for sure, I would have offered Stephanie and Ollie a super deal on their favorite rugs.

As a big golden age mystery fan, a lover of historic buildings and a travel agent who’d been booking the Pera Palace for clients I looked forward to my say there immensely about six years ago. Oh boy was I disappointed. The location is extremely noisy due to the busy traffic, it was always difficult to get anything to eat other than breakfast as the restaurants and bar areas were always closed for private events and to top it off the general attitude of the staff was you’re lucky we let you stay here. We left two days into our week long stay for the Four Seasons Bosphorus, which I cannot recommend highly enough if it’s in your budget. Four Seasons Bosphorus was absolute heaven on earth though it lacked the British historical connection.
