I love this format. We get a lovely David Attenborough style history lesson along with our European tour. More of this, please. A food guide of all the places you visit would also be nice.

Ciao Stephanie and Ollie, I thoroughly enjoyed this video. Venice is truly a magical place, so rich in history. I could listen to you two for hours, I am so grateful for this channel, not only do you give us a beautiful unscripted history lesson, but we also learn of off the beaten path history, a regular tour guide would not provide. So again, I am so happy that you both decided to do this channel. Thanks so, so much.

Amazing video! I went on a walking tour in Venice this morning. The guide did her masters thesis on ancient Venetian graffiti. Basically, venetians used to scratch in images on the walls of the buildings. You can still see some today! And most of these were hypothesized to be drawn by the poorer working class who were most likely illiterate. From her research she concluded that there’s ~6,000 of these drawings on the buildings of the city. Next time you can look around! You might find some!!

I love Venice as well although never have been there and yet have a grandfather who came from Italy! Just love learning more about it and seeing all there is, and love listening to both of you and Stephanie and Ollie, you both do this vlog well together bouncing well off one another. I have a Brass larger flat ring with the bridge in which people have known to go under and often proposals of marriage, have taken place. I do wear it and always remember it came from Italy as well, and so can carry a bit of Venice with me in this way. There is another ring like it that came from Italy, made by artisans, and it has Jesus and the disciples in the "boat when he calmed the storms" Reminds me that all storms can be calmed in this way! Truly is a 'Romanic' place and visit it often it really is just fine with me, and sort of think many others do not mind either!? Ollie, I had an uncle named Oliver as well! Do not hear this name so often at least in the U.S. but when I her your name, it reminds me of him. Glad you both can enjoy all of this, while you are still working, and doing all of this for us! Thank you!

Thank you for this wonderful vlog on Venezia!! There were many facts you taught me, though after five visits to La Serenissima, I have a passing knowledge of its legends and history. The beauty and ambiance of your video jogged my memories, and the magic of the place transported me once again. This city at twilight and during the night is fantastical. I recall being in Piazza San Marco partying with Spanish Uni students one night during Easter Week in 1972. Managing to catch the last vaporetto to Cannaregio, I was startled when a power failure occurred. The only light came from the waterbus, which made the reflections off the water and the shadows on the buildings, something I can never forget. Power was restored several minutes later which ended that phantasmagorical display. Chuck in Northern New England

Oliver, for an in depth exploration of how the Venetians created their civilization, wealth, armies, deals and double crossings, may I recommend Powers and Thrones A New History of The Middle Ages? I used to live in Middle Temple, yet Dan Jones' book reveals so much riveting historical stories, that it is a page turner highlighting how our modern world was created over one thousand years ago. You may delight in this historical book and may be inspired to write one of your own! Cheering for you.
