Fun fact according to IMDb trivia: The close-up of Leatherface cutting his leg on the chainsaw was the very last shot to be filmed. The actor was wearing a metal plate over his leg, which was then covered with a piece of meat and a blood bag. His scream was the actor's genuine scream of pain, as the chainsaw repeatedly hit the plate. The friction from this caused the plate to get very hot and it burned his leg.

BBC Four did a three part documentary series about ten years ago called A History of Horror, in it host Mark Gatiss interviews Tobe Hooper who when talking about the filming conditions said, "they all hated me at the end of the movie... there were two wrap parties and mine was sitting alone on the porch of the house". I do recommend checking out A History Of Horror, all of it's on KZread so easy to find.

Soooo, I watched this movie for the first time about a year ago. I was home alone, with some lights one, watching this and I cannot believe how much I loved this movie and how down right scary it was! I knew how this movie would play out, not from spoilers, just a feeling, and was still jaw dropped by this. It is always so refreshing to see a horror movie that is beyond terrifying. I put this movie in the same group as the original Pet Sematary, Suspiria, The Shining, A Nightmare on Elm Street, among a few others not only as one of the scariest horror movies ever made, but as horror movies that I actually find scary. I would love to see you make a video for what you think are the scariest movies of all time. But with all that being said, I don't think I will be joining you for most of the other movies because I have only seen the remake, and from what people say about the rest, I have no interest in watching them

You brought up so many interesting points about how bad it was for the actors to work on this film. They really worked hard, for little pay, to make this movie. That's part of what makes it so real; even if the "horror" is cinematically fake, the despair (and frustration) is authentic. Great review

Nice review, some people may say it's plot is thin but the simplicity works to its benefit. The soundtrack is mainly noises but there are moments that sound like a theme was there - specifically when Leatherface makes his first appearance. All around though, any new comer will be just as locked in their chair as sally was. Looking forward to your thoughts on the sequels.

I totally agree this film is a classic. Imo it feels so terribly real from the simplicity of the story, characters, and the opening monolouge. And that ending was so perfect! That couldn't have all been acting on Sally's part, some of that had to have been pure insane happiness to not have to deal with those shooting conditions anymore lol 😂😂. The silence of the film, The beauty of the cenimatography and how grossed out it makes you, and how they kinda compare people to cow; its kind of genius really!Amazing review Kylie!

She did say during her interview that the very last scene wasn't acting. Apparently, they thought they were wrapped on the film, but the next day they had to do reshoots of that last scene and she was hysterical. I can't believe she even stuck out that entire shoot, she really went through it!

I mean what's scarier than the images you personally have to fill in yourself from your own experiences? I've also never actually watched any of the franchise before. My mother took me to see the Texas Chainsaw Massacre when i was 10 years old. I was shaking in my pumas, it was absolutely terrifying! For a movie that was not particularly gory they were able to touch a nerve with the pacing, suspense, and piercing music. TCM is just as terrifying today as it was 40+ years ago. One of the more important components about TCM is that it can actually happen. It's a very plausible situation. That alone is fuckin scary. 😆

I just finished the movie not even five minutes ago and I’m genuinely trying to find out how people like this movie and how she’s a fave “final girl”. Maybe it’s because the movie is from 1974 but Sally was pissing me off the whole time. Getting beat up by a broom is where I knew this whole movie was a joke. The constant screaming leading them straight to her was ridiculous. The flailing arms was insane. She was completely unharmed and wasn’t even putting up a fight. Just constant flailing and screaming even when she did have a chance. The truck scene is what I really found hilarious. Thankfully she got away but she has no qualities that all final girls have. I haven’t watched a lot but from all the final girls, she’s def the worst one and would be the first to die in a final girl movie.

You left out the creepy narration that introduced the film at the very beginning. Usually when I would watch those creepy tv shows (back in the day) that would have an opening narration starting with "The show you are about to see...." I would be creeped out. Case in point: Unsolved Mysteries ("....what you are about to see is not a news broadcast). I love how this movie started out with "The film which you are about to see...." and then followed with a narration of what's to come. It seemed quite creepy and not something you often see at the beginning of a horror film.

I am incredibly interested to see your take on this franchise BECAUSE not one of these movies is cohesive with the next lol. This is the one franchise I've never been able to get into. I like the original. Enjoy the remake and that's kinda where it ends for me. I think the final girl thing is maybe because of that. With Friday, Halloween, Nightmare, Scream...those all feel like the same movie genre so the same people come back to enjoy them and final girls are compared and in ALL of those, final girls are revisited at least once, if only for a small moment. This is a very different franchise and I feel like because its so different it doesn't have the solid fanbase the others do so the final girl falls through the crack of that broken foundation. That's just my opinion. Maybe I will join this journey with you and actually watch them all ALL the way through because I've kinda watched at them and given up midway through.

Well I’d can Say it definitively Deserves the title as one of the scariest horror films of all time. When I’d watch for the first time beforehand, right up to Texas Chainsaw 3D all of the films from the franchise none has the atmospheric Mundane Brutal tension art direction as the Original had accomplished. Documentary explains the Terrible working environment which were crazy within itself. All around Fascinatingly Astounding performances from Marilyn burns Gunner Hansen, Paul A partain!

My fave horror movie of all time. Everything about it is just so well done, sadly to well done in fact. This series became VERY dedicated to remaking the first movie over and over again because it was just so good so the series as a result is pretty repetitive. You may dislike a lot of it. Number 4 to me is an under rated gem(everyone else hates it but I love it because it is so random and none logical, which is pretty much why I love the first film). The second is not to good in my book, part 3 is pure middle ground. The remake, as far as remakes go is really, REALLY good and Texas Chainsaw 3D is pretty much Friday the 13th done with Leatherface instead of Jason. The other ones are REALLY bad. That's my take on the full series.

Yep Grade A film for sure, and my favorite horror movie. You should look up the political and social subtext in the movie, that is if you haven't already. Apparently there is a lot of it that goes over your head if you're not from the 70s. Such as when they're told that there is no gas, it's because the country had a gas shortage at the time.

Worlds smelliest horror movie? Are you getting any ideas for your next video. Maybe wear the same clothes for 4 weeks turn the ac off create a true classic. I get to use 1 of my favorite words "visceral". This movie stands out for that slimy, gritty very un polished real life look and feel. Oddly enough both Wes Craven and Tobe Hooper actually excel at low budget and big budget movies. You should check out "Funhouse" from Tobe Hooper there's something beautiful about the way it is shot. This movie used to make me very uncomfortable starting from that scene in the van. For some reason we used to impressions of the Franklin character back in the day, probably cuz we were high and it just made sense. Alrhough it seemed at the time that they just stumbled upon this house and the people in the movie, that fact that there was set design and actors involved just makes it all the more impressive
