The TERRIFYING Last Minutes of Bull Rider Mason Lowe

Ойын-сауық

The crowd's roar filled the arena as the chutes swung open and the bull exploded out, spinning and kicking frantically. Sitting atop 1500 pounds of raging muscle and sinew was a lean, focused cowboy, his gloved hand clenched tight on the bull rope. Mason Lowe held on for dear life, his lithe body absorbing the bone-jarring bucks and gyrations of the massive beast beneath him. Eight seconds stretched into an eternity as man and bull battled, the crowd screaming encouragement. With a final mighty kick, the bull sent Mason, but not before he reached back and grabbed a fistful of fur - he had made the buzzer. The crowd went wild as Mason jumped to his feet, fist pumping triumphantly. This was Mason’'s element, and he was born to be here.
Until one fateful day in 2019, when the cheers of the crowd turned to silent gasps of horror. What happened to this professional bull rider in those final terrifying moments?
Join us as we uncover the tragic details of what would become the Denver Western Stock Show’s first death in 113 years, and the 3rd death in Professional Bull Rider’s event history.

For me, the loss of Lane Frost was huge. That was back in the day when i rode a few times. He was gored and was pronounced deceased at Cheyenne's Memorial Hospital. Everytime i saw Tuff ride after that, i saw a lil bit of Lane in him. They were best friends travelling partners.

Very sad for this young man, may he rest in peace. I don’t understand why they would euthanize a bull for an injury to a rider. The bull is doing what a bull does in this instance, and that’s to get pissed off and get the guy off his back.

Intent lmfao. The animal has no intent, you have a flank strap done up so tight it causes pain and makes the animal feel attacked, the rider on its back also makes him feel attacked, he's doing nothing but what comes natural to ALL living creatures when they feel attacked.... fighting for survival. It's actually not as cruel of an event as what people think, why there are people who do the wrong thing, the risk of injury to the animal at accredited events is extremely low, lower than a lot of other disciplines, the bulls are actually bred to buck, it's in their genetics and the bucking bull is a recognised breed, their is vets at every rodeo, the rope around their rear is actually not designed to cause pain but to help encourage correct technique by giving them something to aim at, theirs a lot of misconceptions about rodeo out there

Watch the video closely - the bull never stomps on Mason. But as he was getting flung off, the bull catches him in the chest with a hard, upward hook with his head & horns with enough force to launch Mason into the air. Watch it at 8:04. That had to be enough of an impact to crush his innards, for sure.

I was fortunate to live near Joe Wiley, Tuff Hedeman. They treated these animals as world class athletes..I've pet and scratched many a bull that later left many a cowboy stunned in the dirt well before the blink of 8 seconds. My stallion seemed pretty eager to be a pickup horse and it seemed these bulls really didn't have a hate towards any cowboys, just sure agility. By contrast, a good friend of mine inherited the family dairy and grew up among the same jersey cows and rythum of milking, feeding and handling gentle milk breeds. One day, a cow hit him with her head. She had turned suddenly because he was spraying for flies. He picked up a fence board and hit her in anger. I don't condone that. It was some years later and his grandson, about 4, followed him into milking barn. The bull, whom was pulled and bottle-fed a few days after his mother was hit, was all grown up and followed you like a puppy. Nine years had passed since that fateful day as a calf. His wife called upset and said her husband hadn't returned from barn and would I go get him and the grandson? So I caught my horse, threw a lead rope on him and road him over to their barn. I remember seeing her anxiously peering out the kitchen window and the boy's toy John Deere ride on laying just enough in barn door to keep it from shutting. I got to door and called their names. A wail broke out louder than the unusually quiet cows needing milking. I slipped off my horse and opened the door. I ran to the sound and all I could see was back of bull. He had his head down grinding something into the ground. He turned for a second and looked at me and I stared. Then, he bellered, turned around and carefully tilted his horns away from me and went to barn door. My horse backed, and the bull stepped outside and stood beside my horse. I turned and went to grab the boy and realized the "mud" and rags was my friend mashed into a rut in the dirt. I carefully picked the boy up and walked to barn door. I called my horse so he stepped between us and bull. I put the boy on him and got on him from off side. I grabbed lead rope and slowly spun us away from bull. I hadn't saddled or bridled my stallion because I was just going to remind the guy lunch was waiting. I got to the back door and she came out screaming. I told her she has to be cool for her grandson. I asked where her husband's gun was. I set the boy on the couch, got a good look at him, wrapped him in a blanket and told her to call ambulance and sheriff. I went and got the gun and met deputy at gate. Ambulance came soon after and they looked at the boy. So another deputy showed. I tried to get my horse to shoo the bull away but he stood guarding the barn door and the mess left of my friend. A decision was made and the bull was shot. This bull had carried that little boy on his back. Hed drink a beer if he could knock it over. Never showed any aggressiveness in nine years. I often wonder as the bull carefully walked around me and the boy and quietly stood by my stallion, why he chose that day. There were cameras and the gruesome attack was caught. I believe the bull remembered that day way back when his mother was hit..I also believe my friend was a good man but, the camera caught a different reason. He had suddenly started screaming at the boy because he was getting dirty. Screaming a while and the bull came in. My friend had picked up a broom and swung at the boy telling him to shut up. It was then the bull took him down. It's sad to see, after the bull died and the video, that the bull seemed to understand the grandfather was going to hurt the boy. A lot of questions unanswered today..But Id noticed my friend seemed more aggressive driving and very shortened temper far different than the guy I knew. He had some heart issues and the blood pressure meds were being adjusted. Recently a new dosage and type and I was not sure what was going on and his wife was not sure what was happening. I believe the bull could smell, and sense that my friend had changed and the child was not safe. How sad that bull knew what we didn't. I'm sorry my friend died. I'm more sorry that boy saw that and lost his grandpa, I lost a friend. Dairy cattle are way easier to handle than beef cattle. I know how big and reactive PBR bulls are in the arena, but they are well cared for not just as an investment to breed more..they are a way of life. Joe bucked into his seventies even though he had plenty of good help. He cared for those animals and found a future for them to live, not become a big Mac. My friend with the dairy had much less affection for his milk cows even though he spent three times a day with them milking. Id like to think about if I were a cow or bull that being a superstar bucker living your life out with best feed and care and a good retirement is way better than the grind of feedlots or the forced pregnancy, hormones etc and having your calf ripped from you year after year til you get shoved into a auction and then butchered after giving everything in anything but a natural need to mother, bond, or be on clean grass. That boy grew up . He decided to do something better than his grandfather. He asked me if I regretted shooting the bull. I told him not in that moment. But, sometimes life throws you a really bad storm. It's not the storm that counts, it's how you set your sails for safe harbor and try to keep that in site no matter what. 😊

His wife must have made the choice to support him in his quest to ride the bull. The fans paid to see these fearless young men try to hang on for 8 seconds and then get off safely. Rest in Peace Mason. I will say this. The bull never once stamped on his chest. There was one blow to that area when Mason was already in the air. Also, for anyone who doesn't know why bulls behave this way in the ring, it's because of a very tightly applied cinch to the bulls most delicate of area. The bull did not deserve to be put to death for just being an animal in pain. Take away the cinch, it's the very least this so called 'sport' can do.

I love how they pin the blame on bull with his “wild nature” how about the rope around his flank that’s shocking his groin to make him buck so wildly. I really don’t like this sport not only to the cruelty of the animals but people like this die, so no, it’s never the Animal’s fault. But some people with their western cowboy dreams got the nerve to be surprised when something bad like this happens. But regardless of my thoughts and feelings, my condolences goes out to his family.

How is it cruel? Nothing is hurting the bull. That rope is on the back part of their ribs, called a flank. Same as a horse, if your heel hits that on accident, that horse will toss you. All the rope does is tighten real quick when it comes out of the gate causing the bull to buck. While the bull is bucking the rope has already come loose. Soooo the bull isn’t being harmed. He’s trying to get a featherweight off his back cuz now he’s pissed.
