At one point in this performance, when their doing covers of oldies, they mention that they are doing another show soon. The show that they are promoting was "Uptown: A Tribute to the Apollo Theatre", released 1980. I think it's lost media, keep you're eye out!

Louis Price had a good voice, but he wasn’t in the tradition of David Ruffin and Dennis Edwards, who both had that razor edge to their voices. Melvin was arguably the greatest bass singer there ever was. Richard was smooth and probably underrated for the beautiful voice that he possessed. Glenn was in the tradition of Eddie Kendrick a good choice in that tradition. Even though Otis rarely leads any songs he has a great voice that helps the harmony. He is the bridge voice. He is the leader of of the group from a business standpoint, which is essential. He was and still is the glue of the group. His ego is in check not trying to be in the spotlight and letting others who have more commanding voices. It reminds me of a story about Andy Griffith. He let most of the people have the better lines on his first show. Don Knotts won some Emmy Awards as Barney Fife on that show. Andy didn’t win any. He did not complain. When he started the Matlock show he brought Don Knotts on that show. True geniuses do that, Otis Williams and Andy Griffith.

Louis has more than a “good voice”. He’s a singers singer. Ruffin called Dennis a “shouter “. Which he is. David has a more refined and versatile voice than Dennis.

@@brendathompson2378 Going to see Otis and the guys along with The Four Tops next month April 2024. Duke Fakir is still with Tops as Otis is with The Temps and both are in their 80s. As a kid in the 60s on up I loved and supported these groups throughout. Both Otis and Duke are the only surviving originals of their groups so I want to see them and thank them for their talent and music through the many years.

Declined in record sales yes. That move to Atlantic was probably good business for Otis but they couldn't sell records there. And it took a while after they came back to Motown to get a hit also.

I dont know if I would call it a decline. The industry was in flux. The R & B from the 70's wasnt selling anymore, and had melded into disco. Then disco TANKED. In fact, it was a movement to destroy disco, and that left a number of groups______Temptations, Four Tops, Stylistics, Blue Magic among others trying to find their footing. Then you had the extreme loss of writers and arrangers that knew how to write these tunes, but could not shape the tunes to a new audience. The Temptations traditional audience was having kids, and wasn't buying as many records as they did as teens and young adults. All of these groups finally figured out that the audiences in Europe and Australia, Japan and elsewhere didnt abandon them, and became PERFORMING groups, not recording groups. It's just how the cookie crumbles.

@@jessejames1956 in reflection , Louis price said the pressure to replace Dennis after Dennis replaced Ruffin, was enormous and often he was forced to sing in a way that was not natural to him. When Dennis returned , it was a relief first him to leave . Many of the replacement Temps were not paid equally nor included in contract disputes. Many were often put in their place and then slandered after they left. Damon Harris was treated bad then slandered as were Richard and Glenn and Louis. Even Ollie Woodson who helped rebuild them , left to join Dennis ! As Richard said in his bio. Otis, the least talented and easiest to replace , controlled everything . Why his bio. The movie based on wasn’t written til most of the originals had died so they couldn’t refute it !

Richard Street says in his book that Louis was told right before a show that he was being replaced by Dennis because they were going back to Motown. Louis ever the professional, did the show. If you listen to Louis today, he sings basically the same way he is singing on this show. He sang the Dennis Edwards parts on the Temptations movie. I can understand why Otis replaced members many times over. Dennis had an ongoing drug problem. Everyone knows about David. But even Ollie had a drug problem. And a few of the newer members had problems. I give Otis props for keeping the group together for all these decades. But he was bogus for short changing members out of money.
