CORRECTION It was actually 1981* when Jimmy Bishop contacted Otis about doing the Reunion tour. Later that year (after the Lake Tahoe show) it was announced to the public that David Ruffin and Eddie Kendricks would be rejoining the group. No they were the LEAD voices of the Temptations. And only lead on the hits. You can't have a Temptation album without Melvins Voice and how you gonna leave Paul out? Nah...The real voices of the Temptations were the 2nd version of the Original Temptations. Eddie, David, PAUL, Melvin and Otis. THAT was the voices of the Temptations.

@@jaylene.turner6524 With all due respect. Read my post again. I stated that "the real voices of The Temptations were the 2nd version of the Original Temptations. The reason why I stated that was because most of the general public regards Eddie, David, Paul, Otis and Melvin as the Original Fabulous Five. However (mainly because of the movie) we know that Elbridge Bryant was thee Original member of the group. I was only putting it in context to explain to others. David was NOT a original member and you are correct. But as you know some folks are slow and they just don't get it. lol lol

This was a good overview of the history of The Temptations reunion. I remember their hit "Standing on the Top", and I didn't quite understand why The Temptations couldn't keep it together. I now have a better understanding of what really happened, and I've also learned how egos can really get in the way of groups staying together.

@@HB76558 I'm not surprised. I also believe that Larry Blackmon wanted to go in a different direction in the early 80's, because the big horn sound of the 70's was being replaced by the synthesizer. And bands in the early 80's was starting to downsize. And this shift is what caused EW&F to go on hiatus from 1983 to 1987.

Happy Father's Day for celebrity Dr Otis Williams as you see and have seen others learn and achieve at their highest level starting with the infancy stage of "the original Temptations" which included Elbridge "Al" Bryant aka "Bones", Otis Williams, Melvin Franklin, Eddie Kendrick and Paul Williams. followed by "The Classic 5 era" so on and so forth. with you Dr Otis Williams as the leader and founder of the Temptations, we all have seen you grow as you saw potential in the quintet line-ups. You believed in them. Nurtured their skills, taught leadership explicitly and then you provided opportunities to empower them to lead songs. Thank you Dr Otis Williams for you hard work and dedication over the years, for the changes of the times you've endured and the seasons you lived through. Yes, your leadership practice is required, because it is not all built around inborn personality traits. Even the best of your "Temptations team" did not have these skills honed from day one, all of you had to practice. All must rehearse. Happy Celebrity ❤️😂 Father's Day, Dr Otis Williams to you. The best to you always.

You are correct but ya'll its not just that easy to just "get Whitfield" at that time. Norman Whitfield had his own record company called Whitfield Records.. His first act was the Undisputed Truth, whom he had convinced to leave Motown, followed by Rose Royce, Willie Hutch, Yvonne Fair, Nytro, Mammatapee and Junior Walker. The Undisputed Truth scored their second biggest hit in 1976 with the disco song "You + Me = Love", their first single on Whitfield Records. Norman Whitfield had an international smash hit in 1976 with Rose Royce's "Car Wash", issued on MCA Records..

Hi Everyone! Please look at the interview between Dennis Edwards and Tom Meros. David RUFFIN did not have Eddie and Dennis money. Let's set the record straight. Dennis and Eddie left after their tour with $5,000 in cash each and each had a $50,000 bank note. David wanted all his pay in cash so he stayed at his brother Jimmy's house until Monday. He went back to Philly and visited a crack house and never came out according to Dennis. The promoters wanted to book another tour and double their money. Dennis nor Eddie could get David to come and sign the contract. You know the ending. Just look at the interview.

@@Relivelive This is another version that I have read about. However Dennis Edwards had an interview with Tom Meros and was adamant about the circumstances following their tour. David and Eddie were both deceased so I can't see any reason for Dennis to lie. He stated "David wanted all HIS pay in cash so he stayed with brother Jimmy until Monday. Eddie and I took $5,000 in cash and each of us also had a $50,000 bank note cashable in 10 days. David went into a crack house with $55,000 and never came out." According to Dennis a promoter had booked another tour doubling their pay. He and Eddie had signed but they needed David to sign also. Dennis stated he talked to David several times but couldn't get him to leave that "PLACE." I'm so heartbroken every time I think about the sad ending. Thanks for your comment.

David Ruffin is without equal in my opinion from all I can learn about him My greatest regret is that I can't know him for myself The other thing that stands out most in my research is the dark malevolent influence of Otis Williams throughout the Temptations story He was a master of manipulation with his humble smiling face and pretension of well wisher and good for all He was taking every opportunity to undermine certain group members and stay in the forefront I think he had an ego problem and a desire to be bigger than the group and the only way he could do that was at David's expense Otis was a parasite who sucked the life out of the Temps but keeps them going so he can keep on sucking 18:35 Sounds like David finally figured out how to play him by making him think he wasn't his enemy but Ruffin knew he was still an insecure little nobody who no one was ever going to come to see🤣

The idea for the Reunion was promising and it’s clear all the guys wanted it to happen as much as the fans did. However the execution failed quickly as it started from the album to the tour.
