The talent with Bobby and Phillipe was just beyond comprehension. The entire lineup at this point was a machine and there is nothing like it. AMAZING - I was so lucky to have seen them live over a dozen times from 1974 to 1979 - I was also a young kid and back stage in the dressing room with all of them - Pervis & Bobby where just so much fun and cool -Henry was just cool - Phillipe was amazing - If Thom Bell did not pick the Spinners from the very bottom of a long list of acts, a list proposed to him by Atlantic Records so he could have a group to work with... None of this would have happened. Only "ITS A SHAME", nothing else - Thom Bell, created and made the Spinners - The guys could dance and sing and where great entertainers. LOVE YOU THOM!

@@jacobbyerson5075 yes of course, but Motown let them go - they where all but done with barley two hits…and with one hit being from Stevie and not the regular Motown hit makers Motown saw no future in them…several months later Atlantic Ertagon gave Thom a list of many many groups that he could select to produce and the Spinner where the last name on the long list. When Thom selected them, as Thom knew that the group had untapped talent that was overlooked at Motown. Without Thom the Spinner would have been a one hit wonder group….Thom Bell made the Stylistics and Spinners… Period and of story.

Thom Bell didn't create the Spinners. They were a former Motown act ("It's A Shame", "Sweet Thing", etc). That's when GC Cameron was their front man. Thom Bell along with Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff (The Mighty Three), gave them more respect than they received at Motown. Ironically Phillipe Wynne was a relative of GC Cameron Thom Bell's arranging & composing with Joseph Jefferson, Bruce Hawes and Charles Simmons writing changed their whole game along with Mr Wynne's dynamics

Philippe Wynne and Bobby Smith deserve all the props they get, but I’ve always felt that Henry Fambrough was their secret and unheralded weapon. He was the change-of-pace guy. He could be the smooth balladeer like on “Ghetto Child”; he had a powerful falsetto; he was the consummate team player. If the Spinners were a football team, Phillippe Wynne would be the big powerful fullback; Bobby Smith would be the smooth running back with all the moves; but Henry Fambrough would be the guy you’d bring in when you desperately needed a first down. He could run the ball, catch the ball, or throw it if he had to. Not intending to talk about him in the past tense because he’s the last surviving member of the Spinners.

BECAUSE WHEN HE GETS LOOSE, I CAN'T SEE NOTHING BUT THE HOLY SPIRIT GUIDING HIS FEET. HIS EVERY MOVE IS A TESTIMONY AS TO WHERE HE HAD BEEN ‼️ I MISS THEM ALL SO MUCH ‼️ THERE WILL NEVER BE MUSIC AND TALENT LIKE THIS ANYMORE. IT MAKES ME FEEL SOME KINDA WAY 😢😭. This so awesome. I've loved the Spinners since I got their first album back in the early 70s. Mighty Mighty Mighty Singers of Pure Soul. They sang it for the ages and I'm here to testify to that. Say Rite On, not just Right On!!

True, Bobby Smith had a beautiful voice, but Phillipe's voice is so distinctive - to this day, there's nothing like it, and his ad-lib scatting added high energy to every song.

The Spinners is my third favorite group of all time. It's like people don't want to give Bobby Smith his proper flowers. He was always the lead singer before Philippe Wynne. Bobby sand lead on That's what girls were made for, Truly Yours and I will always love you, Motown hits before Atlantic Records. He sung the entire lead on I'll be Around the first hit on Atlantic. Give him his props a great singer and the best dancer in the group!!!

Great to see a contemporary live TV performance from the peak period of the Spinners career. They were riding high with the Happiness Is album and Rubberband Man had been a massive Billboard Hot 100 success. Pity about the sound problems at the beginning. Just a bit disappointed and puzzled that they didn't include their signature hit Could It Be I'm Falling In Love!

Man these old school Soundstage programs were amazing. I grew up listening to The Spinners back in the 70's and Phillipe "Soul" Wayne was an awesome lead vocalists. You can even tell when you hear the recordings alone. When i heard he passed away back in 1984, I was crushed. Phillipe you were awesome and I'll never forget your awesome showmanship. Oh yeah check out the gold shoes from the first segment of the program. That was fly.
