@@jonhauge-evaldsson783 No. It sounds like the next video. :)
The people who we are supposed to feel for in this stories are the draftees: The common folk who are being sent off with sticks and stick shields to be slaughtered on behalf of “Lord” Eustace in a completely needless fight bc Eustace (the Richard Nixon in this story) is too proud too talk to the Widow and also because Eustace lost rights to the water in the first place 15 years before by rebelling against a great king bc Eustace thinks the Dornish are lesser men and peace is for the weak.

Yes!
Ser Eustace depresses me. Mainly because I'm confident that he himself is in a deep depression fueled by heaps of survivors guilt. Modern soldiers suffer from it enough without the added trauma of their fallen comrades also being their children. I could write you an essay at the many levels of baggage the old man's going through but it would be an exercise in pitiful sadness. I know some have called him a coward but I think the truth is that the old guy's give a damn is thoroughly busted and what bluster he shows is him just going through the motions of what he thinks is expected of him.
Another Sunday, another banger. Algorithm better recognize! We come here for the symbolism, we start for the tangents... Or maybe vice versa. Thank you.
I really enjoyed this. I truly love Dunk & Egg. 😊 I have a feeling Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms is going to be a great show. Tim is getting comfortable with character voices! ♥️
I really love how we can start to see Egg's compassion for the common people on full display in The Sworn Sword. Dunk is obviously a positive influence, but you can tell that this is Egg's own good nature at work here. Later in life, he really tries to become a king for his people instead of just ruling over them. The fact that Egg sees the human impact when the high lords play their game of thrones and squabble over land and "honor" plays a huge role in how he treats the lords vs. the peasants during his reign (even to his political detriment). Great stream gentlemen (and mods)! Super excited for Part 2 next week!
Whoever heard of a sweaty dragon?🤣I love these re-read streams and Dunk & Egg! I look forward to your content every weekthank you for all you guys do! You and IDG are the only ASOIAF creators who continue to fuel my love for this series!
The Dunc & Egg steams have been the highlight of my week lately! Cant wait until next week gents!
This one was that perfect blend of symbolism, plot, and antics! Can't wait for next week
One of the best KZreadrs for providing chill streams with some excellent thoughts to ponder about on top.
Ive been thinking when the series comes up this videos are going to blow up😂

I’ve been thinking that’s a great idea Aman 💚
Hey lml, Wats wood could have some links to the 13th century leader of the peasants revolt, a man named Wat Tyler. King Richard II had him stabbed in the throat during what was supposed to be a face to face peaceful negotiation. Serious Bloodraven vibes on that one lol. Dude was on the cusp of some crazy reforms so might have green man/poor fellow symbolism especially with the bloody mouth. As ever dope stream from you and Tim appreciate it and keep up y'all's good work 🙌
"Knight of the seven kingdoms" probably should be the first thing in the titles for these dunk and egg stories read through videos, to hopefully attract new viewers interested in the new series.
While Eustace has some admirable qualities, let's not forget that he is George Martin's type of villain, but a villain nonetheless: It's not just that he supported the wrong side in the Civil War, he also did it for the wrong reasons. He ultimately reveals that he is very prejudiced against the Dornish and Daeron's great accomplishment of making peace with the Dornish and uniting the realm, that's why Eustace hated Daeron the Good and was motivated to take up arms against him. Likewise, he loved Daemon Blackfyre for the types of reasons why men have liked militant and fascistic leaders such as Mussollini who overthrew better leaders, destabilized their countries, and caused massive death and destruction. Yes in monarchies it's essentially arbitrary that oldest sons or children rule (depending on the rules) and that legitimate children rule (while bastards don't), but there has to be some rule, and it's only by honoring that rule that you don't get civil war and massive death and suffering and destruction. We can sympathize with Eustace's sadness over the deaths of his children and wife. But Martin is not a nihilist. It is clear that Eustace was wrong and brought about the deaths of four kids and his wife, unnecessarily, for bad, prejudiced reasons. He is also completely dishonest in this story itself: He conceals from Duncan that he supported the blacks and that the Widow has the right to the water. Moreover, he let's his own pride cause the entire conflict. From what we learn of the widow, she would have given some water back if he had only come and asked for it, which was his duty as the knight of this land to his own people. He swore and oath to never go there because of a petty slight decades before. This is being a terrible leader / landed aristocrat who is reasonable for the suffering of the common folk on his land in the present story, just as he was responsible for their suffering in the past by leading them to war on behalf of a rebel. Don't be fooled by his poetry. All human beings are deserving of empathy and compassion for their suffering, even self caused. But Eustace is a villain and this is not a story of moral equivalence.

Loved the stream, great work fellas. And the asoiaf youtube channel chat was hilarious 😂 I'm looking forward to a Nimble Dick squisher survival guide video
Love the connections made between winterfell and bloodstone emporer/azor ahai. Maybe Dave could do a short 10 mins video pointing out all these connections???
Just got off work so my brain is fried but leaving a comment. Cant wait to continue. Both of them do such a great job. Also I really hope LmL doesn't lay off the symbolism, thats why we love him!
The golden lion and the chequy, the lion still has claws. Who are you, the proud lord said, that I must baw so low?
Excited about Tim's new videos. Love the voices. The symbolism coming from the "balls" line was great. PHRASING
Eggcellent analysis, gentlemen.
When you said blood and fire in relation bastards flipping the sigil i thought of Jon Snow’s words being winter is here
Damnit I missed the live! I was really looking forward to it. You and Tim reading and explaining these books is my new favorite thing. Huge fan!
I’m so happy and so excited for you read along. Thanks to both of you
great stream! loved the discussion around 2:00:00 about the core themes of otherization being the great evil, and no characters or peoples being perfect. as well as the discussions later on about power and abuse!
Had a blast in the chat during this stream. Looking forward to a stream dedicated to ASOIF character YT channels 😂
Dunk and Egg quickly becoming my favorite source of asoiaf symbolism
Great teamwork, David and Tim. Appreciate it :)
had to catch you guys on the rewatch! Thanks guys, love it as usual
having never read The Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, these streams have been awesome! great work from both of you gentlemen!
The Thenns channel would be one of those no talking Primitive Technology channels.
Awesome stream, big fan of all the symbolism talk, I never really picked up on it in Dunk and Egg
My sweet summer children... I remember the days when the stream was called the Sword Sword...
"They died on the redgrass field, and are buried among the blackberries." Possibly symbolism: REDgrass, BLACKberries. Red and black, the colours of the sides of the Blackfyre rebellion. They died on a field coloured for the Targs, they're buried among the colour of the Blackfyres.
The Dunk and Egg series has my favorite characters in GRRM books!! I hope the show do them justice!
Nice! Been looking forward to this, lets go lads!
Great stream. Can't wait for the show.
It's great to see Dave and Tim's interaction become more complex with each stream. Loving the complementarity of symbolism and political commentary. Also really interesting the point on reconcilliation as one of this universe's themes.

Lmao best livestream I’ve ever listened to. Everything after 27:00 is TOP TIER ASOIAF KZread
Dave at the beginning: I’m not going to talk about bunch of symbolism this time guy seriously Me: That’s a damn lie 🥲
Please leave a like and a comment to support our favorite ASOIAF content creator. David’s analysis of symbolism is second to none and these chapter reads are so much fun!
Hearing the story again, I am struck that this is yet another instance where the timeline appears to have been reset by someone or something sending a dream to a main character that changes their viewpoint and alters their course of action. The crucial moment seems to be Dunks dream in which the villagers die and Egg slips down and is lost in the sands of time. This reminds me of when Jon decides that if he accepts the Lordship of Winterfell, Mel will burn the heart tree there and that will ruin everything. And when (f)Aegon and Tyrion pass under the bridge, Tyrion identifies Young Griff as Aegon VI, and then the boat is swept sideways through the open span and back under the bridge--or else there is a time skip backwards--and this time the stone men jump down on the boat leading to Griff getting infected. What is being envisioned is so specific, as well as as metaphorical, and it changes things so much, it seems like much more than a normal dream or line of thought or odd occurrence. I am not one to think that Bloodraven is doing this, because he expressly disavows to Bran that he has power to do this, and because I don't even think Bloodraven is the Three-Eyed Crow in Bran's original dream. I am not at all sure if this is Preston Jacobs Time Travelling Bran from the future, or the Green Men on the Isle of Faces, or a powerful wizard using a Glass Candle from some where far off in this world, the collective effort of all the Green Seers in the Weirwood Net, or some external intelligence meddling with things. But someone or something appears to have sent this dream to Dunk of what happened in the last time line or what is about to happen if things go down their present course, and that information is what allows Dunk to make the right decision that leads to saving the small folk and Egg, so we can get to Rhaegar, Jon, and Dany down the road in the right places at the right times to save humanity. Interested to see your thoughts during or after part 2 on this.

i hear you. there could be entities in the wwnet sending dreams, absolutely. i also think fate and necessity could be causing them to happen when they need to as well, I think Martin thinks like this
House Osgrey - "Stand Fast". I'm speculating, but the historical/inspirational source might be Clan MacLeod -> motto is "Hold Fast". This is a fairly Nordic infused Scottish Clan from the Isles of Skye, Lewis, and Harris.
Tim has convinced me that Sir Eustace is Daniel Day Lewis

I was in and out while the stream was live, I'll watch it in full tomorrow. But did y'all talk about how The Little Lion from the story is connected to Tyrion? They even talk about whether he's a dwarf, so I think there must be a link. I'm guessing the Little Lion foreshadows Tyrion somehow, but I'm not sure how. What do you think?
@LonkTheLunk
Жыл бұрын
I noticed a LOT of similarities between Egg's description during the bath scene and how Tyrion is described. The "eyes so dark they looked black," the specific description of Egg's hair color, and the line about Dunk almost cutting off his nose were all evocative of Tyrion. Plus, all of this came right after the line about few others than the blood of the dragon having those features, so this feels like Tyrion Targaryen symbolic evidence to me.

Wooh Warriors! 🏀
2:34:21 it also reminds us that Crastor gave his sons up to the others. I know they aren’t technically bastards, although I doubt Crastor formally married any of his daughters. They were given up to potentially form an army though.
Theon runs a terrible prank youtube channel, and gets genuinely annoyed when people fight back. Sansa plays lo-fi chill-hop beats to pray/relax to Marwyn the Mage is an ASOIAF theory channel
Could it be that the green men in the cage eating each other at the crossroad a hint to human sacrifice, or Jojen paste? Both Jojen and Bran are green men and bran eats Jojen in the weirwood net, or iron cage.
@DavidLightbringer
Жыл бұрын
it might, in a general sense, but upon further reflection it’s probably meant to symbolize how neighbors like Coldmoat Standfast are still eating one another 15 years after the Blackfyres and Targs who fought the war are mostly dead
Love the chat's contributions as always!
You mean Dunk and Egg _aren't_ a comedic duo?! 🎭
I would love to see a KZread channel of Mushroom's takes on events.
Loved all those alt YT channels 😂😂 so good 🤣
The symbolism is obvious when you point it out, but I would never have seen it on my own.

So you say The Great Empire of the Dawn built Standfast? Why not! Black stone and gargoyles! And the liech remind me of Moat Calin. It is built on a hollow hill, with black well as well!
Ser Eustace’s name sounds like “used to” because he’s living in the past

Have you found any probabel Blackfire suppoters in The Hedge Knight except the Brute of Bracken? One of Dameon Blackfires knights was called Redtusk. Maybe he was a Crakehall. They have a Bore with big tusks as a sigil. Maybe Redtusk was killed on the Redgrass field. He was probably kin to Ser Roland Crakehall of the Kingsguard. Perhaps they were even brothers. Roland probably fought for Daeron II on the Redgrass field. But maybe Roland blames Baelor Breakspear for the death of his brother and found an opportunity for revenge in the Trial of Seven at Ashford Medow. And if he could blame it on his own brother Maekar he could get both the Hammer and the Anvil in one evil stroke. Nobody expects the Kingsguard, right?
@jonhauge-evaldsson783
Жыл бұрын
I don't think Roland Crakehall was a Blackfire suppoter, though. He was a Bloodraven crony! He helped the beloved hand to put down the second Blackfire Rebellion and found Dunk among the prisoners. So maybe he was just helping Bloodraven to trim the family tree. For the sake of prophesy of cause! To bring forth The Prince that was Promised and save the world! Ofcause. Or maybe Baelor was just a political rival to Bloodraven. Baelor was too soft against Bittersteel. Baelor would be a two able and just king. To deal with Brackens and Blackfires, only a Blackwood like Lord Brynden Bloodraven Targaryen could do the job!
@DavidLightbringer

i’ve never thought about someone other than Maekar being the one to kill Baelor… interestingn
@jonhauge-evaldsson783
Жыл бұрын
Dunk has a lot of blanks during the fight. Maybe Aeron had time to ride by and slam his morningstar in Baelors head during one of those. Apparently, Baelor could continue to walk and talk and maybe even fight as long as he kept the helmet on.
@jonhauge-evaldsson783
Жыл бұрын
An even more crazy idea: The Laughing Storm used to smack of ornaments of helmets. So maybe he misstook Baelor for Maekar or Aeron in the fog of battle, and amed to low... Perhaps it was only a joke... Or maybe someone on the other side tried to copy the Laughing Storm, but had not practised it. It could be Maekar to humiliate his brother, but why can't he remember it in that case? It could be Aeron, one of the Kingsguard, or even the rotten apple.
@jonhauge-evaldsson783

I favour Bloodraven! He must have been there in disguise, don't you think? The master ov the games is called Plummer. It's a little bit suspicious. There are no mentions of moonstones or other gems. Does Bloodraven already mastered glamours at this point? Plummer and others could still be agents, though, and Bloodraven is just hiding somewhere close by.

Love most of your observations on ASOIAF Grey Waste Tim, but I respectfully think you are misreading Eustace’s statements which are not expressions of we the common people are pawns in their game of thrones, but rather akin to lost cause nostalgia for the Confederacy and the Nixon and Rumsfeld interviews where they defend their decisions and actions after the fact. Basically, Eustace is only the person in this story until Dunk intervenes who has power and agency-the Widow being restricted by the Castilian wielding power over her and giving her limited information-and he is the person who has made one terrible decision after another but refuses to take responsibility for any of them even after they prove disastrous.
