This is the KZread home for the Mythical Astronomy of Ice and Fire podcast. We analyze the symbolism of ancient folktales in ASOIAF and compare them to the main characters in the story, finding parallels and echoes which reveal the broader tapestry of past and future events and archetypes which George R. R. Martin has created. As a result, we have discovered the cause of the Long Night and the truth of Azor Ahai and Lightbringer, which is not what we have been lead to believe. George is a master of symbolism and metaphor, and is well-steeped in world mythology. His books are part of the larger literary tradition of esoteric, symbolic writing, and as a result, analysis of A Song of Ice and Fire benefits tremendously when viewed inside that larger context... and that's what we do here. We do strict interpretations of the text, eschewing wild speculation to instead focus on the precise language and reoccurring symbolic motifs in the work. Merch coming soon 🔥

When you find out David can talk hoops in an intelligent way: yayyyyyyy When you hear David praise Boston in any way, shape, or form: booooooooo
Do you suppose Harrenhal is named with reference to German words "herr/herren" in the sense of "master/lord/ruler?" The whole story of the castle and its occupants is like a parable about what happens to people in power (regardless of who they were beforehand, or how they achieved their position)
WE NEED A FAMILY TREE FOR THE DRAGONS!!!
it seems Robert needed a justification for his rebellion, so he successfully convinced himself that he was an agent of goodness and for that to be true, Aerys and Rhaegar needed to be evil.
0:12 "Ulthos" probably means Ulterior, as in "existing beyond what is obvious or admitted; intentionally hidden", quite literally.
Also where's Daeron Targaryen
The real curse of Harrenhal was the enemies we made along the way
You did this video flawlessly... And i must say the art for the Bolton's is on par with the subject, kinda wish now they looked like this... Something a little more Abhuman. Bordering that fine line.
I wish I'd been here for the Ramsey/Tywin argument! Nobody bringing up that Nettles argument for Tywin is the same as saying Vader deserved to be saved because he really loved Padme. Vader killed a bunch of nameless younglings, but he would never kill his own son. CONGRATS NETTLES!
R’Rhaegar been Praising Garth abit to Hard outside Harrenhal on the Isle of Conspiracies
Maybe it’s Aemond in his mom’s(Alicent’s) lap???? Maybe he feels bad after he kills Luc
Does anybody know what the backing track used during 1:00-1:45 is?
37:48 Aragorn=Aegon which is jons actual name
Ive gone back and forth between the main characters (past and present) and I think Daenerys is the most interesting character ever written (not HBO version)
I've said so too and I agree
Epic!
I love that pic of dany at the beginning looks just like i imagined her before i saw emilia
We all want a Bron prediction for WoW!
Maegor is one of the heros for house Targaryen. Without him the realm would be lost. Aenys was to weak and the other to young. Why do people belife what the gray rats say about him?
because many of the murders, rapes, genocides, and atrocities that he definitely committed aren't within the scope of "maester bias" And he would have destroyed the house if not for jaehaerys, Alysanne, and Rhaena. Maegor died alone on the throne, everyone having abandoned him because of his cruelty and insanity
Hey dude I just want you to know that you make the end of my shift so easy going and funny and if I had enough money I would give you some or donate I just need you to know that.
Your Rhaegar segways remind me of the Simpsons. He's so needy.
I do understand why Rhaenyra would want to kill Nettles, after losing her son and then losing her husband must be very hard. Plus some dragon seeds betrayed her, so sleeping with her husband its another betrayal.
What about Elia? Lots of people seem to think that her whole existence boils down to her being an obstacle to the love of Jon Snow's parents. That's trashy.
Next time you get warm cans and need them cold quick, wet a paper towel wrap it around the can and stick it in the freezer. Gets cold insanely fast!
If. The Wall falls I'd love for all that captured magic to burst across the planet 🎆
17:20 took me completly off guard i am dying right know hahahahahaha may the Lord of Light bless u...!
Ned as king and Tywin as hand would have possibly been a tag team of superpowers.. honour and justice allied with brains and strategy
34:36 That's peak nostalgia right there. I loved those books when I was little
Girl Nettles sucks. trying so hard to defend the atrocities of Maegor throughout the stream, glad she wasn't in this stream to ruin it
Tim is the best guest on this show.
I still am quite skeptical about Bran the Builder being the actual builder of the wall. To me, the ideas about Starks making a pact with the Others and Wall being built as some monument sounds more likely
“Put down like Old Yeller” Hilarious but depressing. Fucking D&D
someone needs to cast kevin nash to play Maegor Targaryen lol
Lmao, grandma black kills hundreds, but someone was sexist so that's much worse. Never choose sides, you'll just box yourself in.
Couple things id like to ask!!! When ned finds his sister..is Howland Reed not there?? I mean yeah i know he got cut up by Arthur Dane.. but if my mate comes walking out a tower minus a sister but with a baby.. im asking what happend. Also i doubt Rhegar is leaving her with two kingsgaurd and no nurses.. so they needed to be sworn to secrecey too yeah?
great video i’m bummed i missed the stream, can anyone tell me where to skip to so i dont get spoiled for hotd, i paused at 1:42:19 thanks
David, you would absolutely love Warhammer 40k, Brother.
Great stream! You three should do more psycho analysis style content for ASOIAF
Farkk this dudes the fucking biggest tosser hands down
I thought old Nan was in the room with me!
“Be content with a normal sized house.” 😂
I'm just here for the temple of the dog cover band.
Hightowers are always causing trouble.
The greens are in the right, I’m sorry but it is the truth. A king does not have the power to just name an heir when there are others who should naturally be that. If kings could just rattle off the succession how would they ever not stay in power? Sons Daimon To be clear, the king CAN name an heir But he claimed to want stability, was he just too stupid to understand what everyone else knew, the realm would go to war over it, and all your kids will kill each other. Was he really this dumb to not admit this? She has 3 bastard kids. She screwed over her own claim when she had kids outside her marriage. Everybody knows it. Sure it feels wrong, but feeling something is wrong, doesn’t mean it isn’t how things legally need to be.
I just don't think it is in George Martin to write or even suggest a conventional romantic relationship. I always thought Lyanna was a lesbian who ran away because she didn't want to marry ANY man. But I can see her agreeing to become the feudal era equivalent of a surrogate mother for Rhaegar and Elia if they help her escape being forced to become Robert Baratheon's wife.
that's an interesting angle, but there are far too many clues that it was in fact romantic. It is possible that it started out as seeking a surrogate mother, and then they fell in love. some people have suggested that
I think the big reason that Jaehaerys always worked against women inheriting was because if any scenario in which they do leads to him being labeled as a usurper. 1) Women and men inherit equally (as Alysanne suggested with Daenerys being chosen over Aemon. The fact that she felt that this was something that was reasonable to ask, and how Valerian doesn’t have gendered language and how powerful in their own right Visenya and Rhaenys were, might mean that this is how it was with Valerians always, but the maesters might have fudged that history): If this was true, he'd be a usurper TWO times over. Not only would he be claiming a throne meant for his older sister, Rhaena, but he'd also have risen against the true king Maegor. If an older sister inherits before a younger brother, than the throne should be passing through Visenya before Aegon the conquer, meaning Maegor should have come before Aenys. 2) If a daughter comes before a brother (as was the Rhaenys Velaryon argument over Baelon and later Viserys and is the default in all of Westeros except on Dorne): Than it was usurpation for him to take the throne over his brother Aegon's twin daughters. Unless Aegon wasn't king before he died...but that only applies if Maegor was legitimate! So, no matter what, if the woman inherited in this situation, Jaehaerys is a usurper. So, I don't think it was him disliking his older sister Rhaena's example of women in power
I heard they’re going to cut her on some Facebook page I follow, hope it’s not true
It is not HBO anymore, they changed the name to HBRRO.
First time finding your channel. It all just works my friend. The look, the humor, the wit, all of it. Keep it up
If Euron ends up at Harrenhal, I suspect it's Bran that he'll be battling for control of the Gods Eye. After all it's Bran's kingdom he'll be trying to claim.
I think Euron is only interested in Daeny for her dragons. Once he snaggs one with Dragonbinder I suspect his plans to marry Daeny will slide to the bottom of his to do list.
personally I think he wants to use her for a blood magic Nissa Nissa ritual
@@DavidLightbringer That sounds exactly like Euron's style. Falia Flowers learned the hard way how Euron's courtships end.
