The Surreal World of Set Designer Shona Heath
#Surrealism
Shona Heath is one of Britain’s leading Set Designers and Creative Directors. Her Surrealist Art-inspired sets have contributed to some of the most iconic fashion images of the last 10 years. In this episode of A Life Less Ordinary, Shona invites us into her London studio and explains how she became interested in Surrealism as a child, how a shared passion for art historical references drives her creative relationship with acclaimed photographer Tim Walker, and how Surrealist artists such as Francis Picabia, Max Ernst, Dorothea Tanning and Kay Sage have influenced her work. Ahead of our upcoming Impressionist, Modern & Surrealist Art Evening Sale (4 February | London) and Impressionist & Modern Art Day Sale (5 February | London), Shona will also join Sotheby’s specialists for a discussion of the enduring influence of Surrealism at the V&A Museum in London, where her work is also currently on display at the exhibition ‘Tim Walker: Wonderful Things’.

Well, if you're searching for the wrongest color and you find it, then it becomes the best

This can be intuitive too, like Chagall...
The film production crew behind this video did honour her work!

I love that you noticed and mentioned that!
Surrealism is a lot like never having to leave childhood or evolve into adulthood. Beautiful.

That's a perfect description.Maybe why I have always been drawn to surrealism. The dreamlike images and symbols are what I love. And of course the color and composition.

Enggak ah ..
Beautifully made video. The music, the transitional cuts, the setting, the featured work. Super! Beyond enjoying the gorgeous images of this video, I particularly liked how Shona Heath talked about other artists, and the emotional connection she has with art. So much of contemporary art criticism is chock-full of vapid jargon borrowed from semiotics, post-structuralism, or deconstruction. Cheers to discussing art in a direct and stimulating way!

I think they wanted to show too much in too little time. There's enough content, why not make it 10 min long and let her work sink in.
When reality is too much to bear, you find your ways to express a glimpse of fantasy in your head. Creation in its physical form.
She is extraordinary..
she is the most beautiful soul in the modern art … incomparable taste , grace , elegance , depth and compassion for the humanity , is everywhere is her work … probably because work with the fashion industry some could consider her somehow shallow … but look at her work again … nothing more profound … she is what Dalí would aspire to be … no other young live artist have achieved what she have done without effort … alone in her studio diving in her thoughts , memories , perceptions full of colors … wow amazing
WOW. Need to see more of this.
Omg her work is awesome. Also I love her voice so muchhhhhh

One day people will just give credit to peoples work. People like you making everything about gender and identity politics are becoming very tedious.

OMG~~I've been trying to remember and find "Masquerade" by Kit William!!! I loved those series of paintings as a young artist but I couldn't find or remember it (other than the treasure hunt). I love her for acknowledging one of my favorite artist and influences which is Dali. I stopped the video at 2 minute just to say thank you after a moment of elation. I'm still in shock. Thank you. You are such a Great Artist. You know why? Because you do great Art work! 💯❤️👏⭐️🎨🎥☝️🌹
