What if Harry Potter's soul was absorbed by one of the Dementors who boarded the Hogwarts Express in The Prisoner Of Azkaban? How would the Horcrux itself be affected, if indeed, at all, in any significant fashion of absorbed and removed from Harry himself? How could this entirely derail Dumbledore's Grand Plan for vanquishing the Dark Lord Voldemort once and for all? What about the reactions of all of Harry's friends, teachers, the Weasley family, et cetera, et cetera, and even the Wizarding World as a whole, including the Ministry Of Magic and Cornelius Fudge? Could and would Voldemort/Tom Riddle himself even still be defeated in such a scenario?

I Know that the original live action movie of "Super Mario Bros." lacked a lot of power structure to the title characters but I feel like I am only one of the small group of fans that liked that version of the film and yet I also I might be a party of 1 for even having interest for it. Many people I met either do not remember that movie or never shown interest; why is it that it is one of the many films that I like is named "Mud" at the Box Office/Blockbuster/Rotten Tomatoes? I guess I am that much of a sucker for live action movie remakes of video games or other films.

Maybe I’m reading too much into it but I think having not only Mario and Luigi show genuine affection for each other was really cool and important for boys at that age, but also making Bowser, a big masculine dude, sing big soulful songs about his feelings was good too. I like seeing kids movies show little boys it’s ok to show their feelings!

The funny thing is: This nailed my "head-cannon"-Bowser, like, perfectly.
Honestly, I loved how they addressed the voice issue from the start. Frankly, the over-the-top accent would've been very grating over the full course of a 1.5 - 2 hour movie

Thank you!! Why does nobody realize this? Even in the earlier Mario cartoon they didn't use that voice (or anything resembling it), because it wouldn't have worked.

I think the fact that mario and donkey relate over longing for approval from their father is a wonderful addition. I believe (not super sure on this one) that it is canon that the characters in the first Donkey Kong were actually Cranky Kong and Jumpman Mario, Donkey Kong and Mario's fathers respectively. I think it is a wonderful easter egg and callback to a different point in the franchise when Jumpman and Cranky were sworn enemies

And I enjoyed the whole "are we sure about the accents?" thing, because after that I realized I probably wouldn't have wanted to hear them talk like that the whole movie, so I saw that as more of an "if we give you this ONE SCENE of Chris and Charlie doing the accents, will you stop complaining?" kind of thing. During the part of the video talking about a prophecy, I'm just picturing Harrison Ford saying, "Hey, kid, It ain't that kind of movie."
As an animation nerd, the main thing that stood out to me from the very first trailer was how gorgeous the movie looked, and after actually getting to see it this weekend, I'm glad that wasn't the only thing it had going for it, I loved all the Easter eggs, I thought the story was really simplistic, but to me that makes sense for a Mario Movie since Mario in general is very light on the story, I think in general the movie feels like it was made with lots of love and passion and I really appreciate that, so I thought it was a pretty enjoyable movie, but nothing too special, I would probably give it an 8/10 overall, but that's just my personal opinion

SO HAPPY you reviewed this! Have you guys ever read the Super Mario Adventures comics? They were originally in Nintendo Power magazines in the 90s, but have been published in an entire collection. Bowser singing, was so out of place that it was the best hilarious scene in the movie. I cracked up so much when he went all in. Also, I kept thinking they tried a Disney tactic. Disney has a lot of catchy songs, that you would remember more over the movie itself. That 'peaches peaches' song is still stuck in my head.
I liked a lot of the small details like when he was in the real world he was actually getting bruised and injured. But then when he was in the Mario world, he didn't seem to get hurt from things. Just little details like that were fun.
28:39 the movie at its theme is about family and how much they love each other so obviously they’d do it together
@izzywoods794
Жыл бұрын
So i can see why you’d think the theme was family, but with stories, the main needs to learn a lesson about the theme or teach the audience one. I think this was hard to nail down because they don’t learn anything about family or even think about it through the movie besides trying to get his bro back. Luigi probably “learns” the most and it was a lesson in bravery and self confidence.
As someone who has never played a single Mario game, I actually thoroughly enjoyed this movie. It was just fun, I liked all the characters, the music, the visuals, and honestly the character development too. I think not having played the games helped me to get immersed in discovering the universe with the characters. It was nice to just watch the movie for the movie, rather than trying to catch all the references.
“The story is a vessel for references” such a good way to put it, but I don’t think it’s a bad thing. It was similar with detective pikachu honestly, and I still really enjoyed both these movies!
I absolutely loved this movie. I was lucky enough to watch it in 2 ways. Im 40 and I grew up playing ALL the mario games. I loved the Easter eggs and each little thing. But I also got to watch my youngest son who is 9 watch it. He has been OBSESSED with Mario and all the characters since he could walk. The child wants to BE a Toadie. Watching his excitement over this movie was worth it for me. I think they tried to target it to OG players and the new generation all in one. And I think they did a great job with it. Especially the song…. I loved it even with its flaws! And now my son wants to be a Toad even more… and owns all the plush characters available to mankind already!

The one thing that I would say about the movie, is that it could have used an extra 15 minutes to furthur expand upon the characters (more Luigi time, a better understanding of Toad, etc.)
I just went to see the movie with my 6yr old son and his buddies (because I'm "that" mum in the neighborhood). I didn't expect anything. And so I was really amazed! I played the games back in the day and had a great time. And my son was happy seeing Mario make all those "game moves" and stuff - as you said, kids want to see the that. The best moment was when Bowser startet to sing and all those kids around me cringed. my son actually held his hands before his eyes and said "oh no..." and I cried with laughter🤣 (off topic: This gave me a good opportunity later to talk to him about how Peach would never want someone who is so mean to others and that bowser should better get to know her if he really wants to be her friend - educate your sons! 🙂)

I'll say it then. This movie is bad. It's shallow. Unfunny. The characters are dislikable for the most part. The narrative is disjointed and weak. The music is all over the place. Mario and Luigi are worthless for 99% of the movie. Bowser is a stalker creep. The whole thing felt manufactured and fake to make a buck.
Hey, a nice surprise that these Bros are covering those Bros. I loved all the Easter eggs and musical cues. I laughed a lot. I rated it 9/10.
Bro, Bowser was about to melt that manhole cover. He got steel so hot, it was turned red. The cover was about to melt. But Luigi was being a tank to help protect his brother! GIVE LUIGI SOME RESPECT!
My family went to watch the movie Friday night. My parents and I (mostly me) were pointing out almost every single Easter egg. It was so fun. But the following morning, I found even more eggs in the soundtrack that I didn’t find when watching the actual movie. I really really really loved the movie. I been excited for it since the first trailer. Can’t wait for it to be on a streaming platform (hopefully one that I have)

I personally would have given the movie a higher score, but I will readily admit that as a longtime Mario player, I really resonated with the nostalgia of the movie.
I was glad it wasn't so serious and a movie for kids. I love animation...especially the serious Pixar and anime. But it was so nice that little kids can actually see this for just pure joy and fun.
At the end of the movie when Mr Blue Sky started playing, I immediately just connected to GOTG 2. And now that Chris Pratt is both Mario and Star-Lord. I think they the directors do the Mario movie did it on purpose for us.
I think one of the main reasons they didn’t take Charles Martinet for Mario is that they intend on building a franchise that’ll span for years and Martinet’s not getting any younger! They wanted to be able to keep the actors for a long time!

Right, people always talk about how the voice itself would get grating.. but not the fact that Martinet is an aging guy. He's shown he can do the voice in a semi-regular way for a few minutes, mostly in con appearances and fan interactions (stuff like that). But Mr. Martinet's in his 60s-70s isn't he?
I feel hitting the fans with the 'is the voice too much?' right in the beginning was a good play. The Brooklyn Style Voices are awesome, and the VAs all did amazing work. Getting it out of the way early literally gets it out of the way early. And since the movie keeps a very brisk job from the moment they discover the warp pipe, you don't have much time to 'get upset' over it since you're dragged into the events.
My kids (ages 3-6) loved it! One kid thought it was a little scary at times, but the other two didn’t get scared at all. But my oldest ate this movie up and won’t stop talking about it!
Whenever someone says Chris Pratt I just think of f*cking Wild Kratts. Like if you get why.
Them coming to the mushroom kingdom feels wild but does keep true to the fact that Wrecking Crew, Donky Kong and The first Mario bros all take place in New York during the arcade game age before we get introduced to the Mushroom kingdom in the NES era And on the topic of a prophecy: That's more of a legend of Zelda Trope. The starchildren of Mario are more about deciding their own fate than have it be told for them
I have almost never played Mario games (or video games at all and even when I did, the last time was about a decade ago), so I really liked the simplicity of it - I felt like I understood the film good enough. I couldn't really hear that it was Chris Pratt who voiced Mario, even though I knew it. I really liked the depressing star, by the way.
As usual. Superb content. I've watched almost every spoiler for mario but yours and NewRokstars format just works the best for me! You desserve more followers. Keep making contents and tap in other medias to review.
My 6 year son refers to it at the Bowser Movie, cos he is a bowser fan not Mario lol 😂
Fwiw, when I first learned who you two were, I knew immediately that the Super in Super Carlin Brothers was a SMB reference. I’ve only seen one other creator use super like this and this is the Completionist in his lets play channel, Super Beard Brothers.
You could make a drinking game from this video, a shot everytime he says ''like'' and then die from alcohol poisoning.
I personally loved it, I might give it a 9-10, it was just a genuinely fun movie, not every movie has to be like Encanto or Wall-E, sometimes all you need is a good fun movie to watch, and I don’t care what anyone tells me, Luigi is the best character in the movie and the games and that scene where he blocks Bowser’s fire was incredible, especially because it was a callback to the plumbing disaster scene where he pushes back the mirror that was flying at him

Not gonna lie I do think this movie is better than Encanto and Wall-E
Okay but can I just thank you guys for confirming a fan theory I’ve had since 2013!!! You never did Mario theories so I was never sure if it was a pun or not but the conformation is everything!!!!
Something I doubt people would catch unless they’re rainbow road obsessed like me: When Mario first went onto rainbow road the music that played was the gba rainbow road music.
2:44 actually that’s wrong complete misunderstanding idk where people keep getting that from She’s voiced by cyndi lauper Cyndi confirmed this herself Lou albano was one of cyndi’s closest friends so it was a way to honor him
I’m so happy you make the Secret Life of Pets comment. I felt the exact same way 😂
I love your review videos. both your perspectives are always so interesting!!
All the "problems" you see in the movie are your years seeing movies to the excrutiating detail to create theories. The movie was quite good, my nepew and I (too young and too old) enyoied allot, both times we saw it.
Great review guys, you really nailed it on the head. I’m usually just a fan of your movie theories but this review was great to watch and a great way to start my morning. I definitely agree about the nostalgia. Keep up the good work. 🤘🏻
I was hoping that we’d never see Luigi till the end of the movie. Looking back at it now I realize that this set up wouldn’t have made any sense, but hear me out. When the boys warped down the pipe and separated Mario would show up in the Mushroom Kingdom, somehow get involved with Princess Peach and then the typical story line would go from there. As the events were unfolding the audience would A. Forget that Luigi was in the movie and/or B. Question: “Where is Luigi?” throughout the movie. Then, at the end, before the credits, we see him fall out of the sky and land in the area of a creepy haunted mansion. *Roll credits*
This was an amazing movie, and I loved Peach in this movie. I hope for more movies.
Jack black was perfect in this movie and the peaches song was the best part of the movie but the music video is even better
Just so y’all know I immediately caught the reference when I found this channel and I’m not even a Mario fan 😂
Wait, so you're telling me no one got the reference in your name at first?! I honestly LOVED the movie! I watched it today and it's been a long tie that I've been so captivated and could not look away. It was funny, it was clever, I loved the music, scenery and easter eggs. Certainly had the same reservations regarding Pratt though, but if I hadn't read his name listed before the movie, I would not have known, so it was fine in the end. Growing up, I wasn't allowed any game consoles, so I was only introduced to Mario Kart Wii and Galaxy as an adult, but loved it immediately
Man, hearing all the Mario Brothers and Bowser talk brings back good memories of Spring Break Bowser Super Smash Brothers. Good times. Always enjoy the movie reviews guys and thanks for the fun content! Also, what is a better cringey movie song - Bowser's Peaches or Kristoff's Lost in the Woods?
Blowing into the cartridge in the antique shop 😂😂😂
Me and my friend were just jamming to the music. I am a huge Mario nurd and I had a smile on my face the entire movie. I loved all the Easter eggs.
18:30 ok so there’s a kind of popular theory that peach is related to rosalina from mario galaxy. So if the sequel is set in space similar to mario galaxy, maybe they could explain peach’s backstory there? I highly doubt they take this route but if they’re making a sequel we should get some explanation.
You guys really just helped me because I thought I was insane with Toad being a double agent
This movie is absolutely fantastic! 🤩🤩 Anybody who hates this movie either doesn't understand the Mario video games or is just choosing to hate because they are a hater.

Or they actually wanted a movie and not the equivalent of a Mario sideshow.

@@Taydar there is no threshold of plot that qualifies a movie. If footage has a plot of any kind, it is a movie

@Priestess Lucy yeah there is. Otherwise why bother putting any effort into your film. No you don't need Mufassa's emotional death, no you don't need Baby mine, no you just need a bunch of references.

Or...maybe they just don't like it? Seriously, sometimes it's nothing deeper than "eh, not my thing." Personally, I found it to be harmless fun but definitely my least favorite of the two recent movies I've seen (D&D: Honor Among Thieves was just more my speed). A perfectly passable and enjoyable movie that I would certainly recommend, but not much beyond that. Kind of like the Mario franchise in general now that I think about it.
That little blue star surprised me and I laughed so hard that I cried???? Especially “life is sad prison is sad”
I always thought that it was because of that you guys chose the name for the channel. And you 2 are super. And not just on the channel but also in real life. I want you to continue to have success.
I warmed up the Chris Pratt voice. On Princess Peach, she was made a princess because she’s the Tallest.
8/10 Wasn’t actually bad at all. Good animation, good references, touching brotherly bond, poor plot.
I totally agree with Ben's views, I give it like a 65-70 score. I was expecting a bit more from this. The plot and story was weird to me and it wasn't my favorite that they were "real people" entering this world. It doesn't make sense for this pipe to exist to this world in the middle of the Brooklyn sewer. Like having their parents and origin was never a question that needed to be answered. When you play, they just exist in this world, help rescue a princess, and that's fine. It was also strange to me how in "real life" Mario was GREAT at parkour around the construction site, yet at the practice obstacle course with Peach he was awful. They set it up that, they were going to have to do levels in the desert, like in the actual games and reach "check points" to get across, just to then completely disregard the whole "training" to amount to nothing as a montage, which was disappointing. It's hard because I didn't know what I wanted from this movie HOWEVER ALL the easter eggs and nostalgia was what made the movie. The music was the best part because it brought you into it, as if you were playing the game too. And of course Jack Black STOLE THE SHOW! Bowser's plotline and motivation was not a problem at all, I loved all of that, but it was everything else just fell flat.
Re: kids watching the movie. My kids are almost seven and just turned four, and they both loved it! But they’ve also had Mario as a central part of their lives for… almost three years, which is how long my oldest has been obsessed with Mario. This was my youngest’s first time at the theater and I was worried whether she’d be able to handle it, but aside from hiding her face at some of the scarier parts (Luigi’s mansion in particular), she did fine, and had tons of great reactions to various parts. I think Luke would absolutely do fine with it, and probably the twins, especially if they’ve already been to the theater. As a parent who grew up with Mario and now has Mario-crazy kids, it was such an incredible experience to share with them!
Baby Bowser in the sequel? you saying there will be time travel? or do you mean Bowser Jr.? Bowser's son
my only issue with the casting is the fact that they used a big ticket actor for mario in general, idc that its Chris Pratt specifically. way more people, even who played the games, have heard of all the other actors but not the actor who voiced mario in the games
