The STUPIDEST Landscape Photography Challenge in the History of EVER
This is the stupidest landscape photography challenge in the history of ever. But, what's a photo challenge if not fun.
My Instagram: bit.ly/BvSInsta
My Camera Gear: bit.ly/BvSGear
We're on a landscape photography trip in the Lofoten Islands and I decided to do another one of my photo challenges. And while some of the photography challenges have been pretty easy so far, this one is just straight mean.
One of the participants gave me the challenge to take a seascape photo while standing in the freezing Arctic Ocean with a 10 stop ND filter on my camera. Yeah, this isn't exactly the tropical photography I was hoping for. But, I think I made it work.

That Popsys guy, I don't think he likes tripods.
What kind of Canadian are you?... that's summer weather :P
That video came out really cool, man! And the photo looks great as well! It was a lot of fun watching the challenge and filming ;) And I know how cold the water was, since I was swimming in it :)
Fond memories... :)
Dude!...you're Canadian...no whinging about a bit of cold water! We've got a reputation to keep up :)

Good to hear, Peter! Best of luck.
You're welcome for the challenge dude! Still surprised you didn't wake up the entire village with you screaming, swearing and shouting! Good times.

The more I watch the more I like. You're very talented and your vlogs are easy and entertaining. Thank you so much Brendan. Damn, I so wish I had a chance to travel to Norway.

That was crazy ... lol. Be safe no matter what .
Omg that shot you took while freezing your...%-=/+$$#+ off is A M A Z I N G , my hats off to you my friend!
You should invest in a good set of hip waders to stay warm and comfy in those conditions.
I thought it was a selfie in the water! Did come out as a good shot! Will be good to see what James comes out with.
Bravo from Italy, Brendan! Well done!
Hamnoi in the Lao language means ‘small testicles’. How appropriate 😂😂

Awesome Brendan.
You may try a challenge i once did which is to over exposed photos. It opens huge spaces for creativity as you can focus attention on one element while the rest is blown out.
I would have set it to the highest ISO and widest aperture. It’s just a challenge, not to get an award winning shot! 🤷🏾♂️ Your feet are literally what helps your overall body temperature. That’s why soldiers in wars are always told to change their socks.
Dumping a canoe in a frigid stream twice in an afternoon left an indelible memory of something I never wanted to happen ever again, least of all on a challenge. It takes the breath right of you. 🏔 Nice shot! Rock on!

Nothing like having the air sucked from you by a cold smack of glacial water!
I’m freezing by just watching you do that ... but, still like the image, Brendan! 😎
Did a seascape in the northernmost part of norway in february a few years ago. It was about -20°C and a lot of wind. I was timing the waves perfectly until the ocean decided to bring out one that doubled in size and went far beyond the point where I was standing. Saved my photo gear, but it was one wet and cold photographer who had to take the 2 hour drive to get home ;)
My own personal slogan for Seascapes is: 'If your feet aren't wet, you're standing too far away' Last time my feet got wet? A week ago, but the sea was a bit warmer here in Cornwall.
Was not like that in Patagonia, it’s only water get in there. The lengths we go to get the shots. Well done 👍 Brendan, apart from that squealing of course.
Scheiße, what an amazing photo you took under those harsh conditions! You even surpassed your usually high standard. Well done Brendan :)
Saw this and first thought was, THIS HAS GOT TO BE A POPSYS VIDEO
I thought all Canadians are used to a bit of cold water

Coconut wine😂😂 LIKE THE FILIPINOS HUH HAHAHA
You could have stood on the beach with feet in bucket of warm water, it's not like he specified feet in the sea lol. The things we do for a shot.

I have to say that the effort to take that picture ws well worth it ;) Great photo.
It looks so different without snow.
That was an absolutely gorgeous image. I think the worse I have done so far was knee deep in mud at city park in New Orleans while taking a maternity shot because I didn't bring the right size lens I needed. Lol.
Great video enjoying this

Hah, cool challenge... literally! Nice shot though - I'd have thought less foot movement would have been better but also can understand that was probably pretty difficult to achieve!

Yeah, the 10stop ND really limited things, haha.
Remember your youth..........pond hockey in late spring and oops, I went through the ice..........damn, that's a cold run home .................... :-)
Has anyone ever told you that you’re nuts? 😂
Fun fun fun! But I'm a tender foot!!! I'm working on understanding focusing and my research indicates with a 16mm at F11, 5' to infinity (focused at infinity), or 2' to infinity (focused at 1/3 the way) would have provided you with ample sharpness without having to focus stack and suffer more time in the water. Why chose to focus stack? Enjoy you videos, keep it up. Inspired by you to shoot Banff in winter....
@BrendanvanSon

I was shooting at f8, the foreground would have been slightly out of focus. At f11 or16 I could have gotten away without doing it. But, with the 10stop ND that would have meant a 60 or 120 seconds and I thought that would make the sky too flat.
NIce B-roll :-)

While you were risking all I was out in my back yard taking a few photos of a deer and her two fawn. My challenge to not scare off the deer was successful. By the way, great shot from the water!

haha! Nice work not scaring them. Back where I'm from, though, the deer might walk right up and take a selfie with you :D
I've seen you use a new hat instead of the usual cap... Do you think warm head compensates for cold feet? ;)
Good one! Never knew you speak german "Scheisse!" 😁😁
It didn’t say YOUR feet. Could have been the tripod’s feet. 😂
History of ever
7:56 "Scheißenhausen"!
Dude.... Aren't you from the Great White North? Haha! You've been traveling too long! It's good to temper your sea legs every once and a while!

grats to the winner : )
jeaaa nice commitment with cursing in german. How does it comes that you are getting german once you are frezzing in the water? :D

You spelled "stupid" wrong. haha
Brendan you should have read the challenge as a lawyer would have done... The challenge did not specify that you MUST stand in the water behind the camera while taking the picture . So you could have setup your camera on your preferred composition and taken the picture using Canon Connect software while dipping your feet in the water!
