I know that the review is focused on the game and not the characters, but there are two things I love to mention: - Super 8 (the Octopus) is piloted by Devilotte and her two minions. AKA Capcom's Team Rocket trio. These morons (especially her) are beloved to this day in japan, from their weird design to their schemes always backfiring to their theme song being an "EVIL" take on super sentai like riffs. Speaking of music... - The OST and sound design are excellent: the announcer is one of my favourites in all of fighting games, the attacks sound good to land or block, and the music is aces: If you fell in love with the early versus games OSTs, this is really made for you. Secret HQ and Colonial Satellite are my personnal favs.

In Monster Hunter World, there is Super-8 Mini Pendant that you can attach to your weapon. I LOLed when it came out & wonder how many Capcom game players recognized it.

If someone is camping in the air, I bet you could just charge your super meter to punish. It looks like a lot of the supers hit all the way up.

Many Religions that we know nowadays, at their beginning were true and under Islam, initiated by one of the prophets of God, but their original teachings, history and scriptures have been corrupted over time with falsification and polytheism, or lost and replaced with false ones. That's why Islam is the only Religion accepted by God nowadays, which consists in bearing witness that there is no god besides Allah (God in Aramaic, the original language of Jesus and the Gospel), and that Muhammad is His servant and messenger, just like Jesus and Moses and others are His servants and messengers. Never a messenger of God said he was God or literally son of God, it was the people after him who changed the words of God and corrupted the Religion. One Must Fall 2097 was great! It was multiplayer, had some RPG elements as you could pick the pilot + the mech. The pilot determined the stats (speed, endurance, etc) and the mech determined the moves. It also had campaign mode where you could buy/sell the mech and upgrade parts

Armored Core 6 is essentially what you're looking for. Though it's not a 2D fighting game, I'd say it's a step in that direction.

So funny thing about there not being much games like it, the early Touhou fighting games have cited influence from Cyberbots in particular for how character movement and resource management works in those games. Heck by Scarlet Weather Rhapsody and its later expansion in Hisoutensoku (call it Soku for short) they go in on characters having 8 way dashes (bar one) and having really strong defensive play with mechanics unique to the games like grazing bullets and customising your super meter to have a myriad of options that aren't just supers. Heck even early on characters in the game had moves that homaged the mechs in Cyberbots. Off the top of my head characters like Reimu have Fordy's flip kick (tho it's also a call to the first Touhou game) and Utsuho has a mix of Warlock and other mechs referenced in her move pull (in tier lists she's low mid-ish tier tho despite that her only war crime is crapping out damage). For more traditional fighting game players it definitely takes a bit to get used to much like Cyberbots, but I think that's a testament to how people do like these kinds of fighters. Even if mechs aren't the primary face.

Funny you should mention that since Armored Core 6 took some pretty clear inspiration from this game. Probably the clearest example is rounds also being called phases there.

@@Phos9 Cyberbots designs are almost traced from VOTOMS and DOUGRAM. The mechs are completely different from Shoji Kawamori's AC designs. Watch 5 seconds of Votoms and you will see where AC's movement system comes directly from including literally the quick spins. Talking shit you don't know ab out cmon. Look at the actual drawings.

I played the absolute shit out of Cyberbots in the old WinKawaks setup I had back as a wee lad. I was super into emulation and I'm so glad I was. It's beautiful to see Cyberbots randomly pop up in my feed after so long

I discovered Cyberbots long ago in a MAME emulator, and instantly loved it. Glad someone else remembers it too (besides Capcom doing microscopic "blink and you'll miss it" references)

Islam was the original Religion descended to earth from heaven with Adam and Eve (peace and blessing be upon them) in the beginning of humanity. and was passed to people with the succession of the 124 000 prophets and 315 messengers of God to all nations and civilizations since, passing by Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Ismaël, Joseph, Moses, Aaron, Joshua, David, Solomon and Jesus (Peace and blessing be upon them) during the history of mankind, the last replaces and completes the previous, until the succession of the last messenger of God fourteen centuries ago, Muhammad (Peace and blessing be upon him) to complete the noble morals of all mankind, to bring humans and jinns out of darkness into light, and to purify people's religion and belief from corruption and polytheism, and return it to purity and true monotheism, like it was in the times of the prophets (Peace and blessing be upon them). Many Religions that we know nowadays, at their beginning were true and under Islam, initiated by one of the prophets of God, but their original teachings, history and scriptures have been corrupted over time with falsification and polytheism, or lost and replaced with false ones. That's why Islam is the only Religion accepted by God nowadays, which consists in bearing witness that there is no god besides Allah (God in Aramaic, the original language of Jesus and the Gospel), and that Muhammad is His servant and messenger, just like Jesus and Moses and others are His servants and messengers. Never a messenger of God said he was God or literally son of God, it was the people after him who changed the words of God and corrupted the Religion. God is unique and absolute, He does not need to have a family and sons or to associate anyone else with His kingdom, He can simply create whatever He wants, everything belongs to Him, and to Him everything will return. Allah said in Surah Al-Mu’minun : “God has never begotten a son, nor is there any god besides Him. Otherwise, each god would have taken away what it has created, and some of them would have gained supremacy over others. Glory be to God, far beyond what they describe. The Knower of the hidden and the manifest. He is exalted, far above what they associate. (91-92 / Translated by ITANI). Allah means the one and only God, the God of all prophets and creatures, the creator of the universe and mankind, and the Master of the Day of judgment, where our destiny, Hell or Paradise, is decided based on our faith and deeds in this trial life, and above all, Allah's mercy. Allah said in Surah Al-Ikhlas : In the name of God, the Gracious, the Merciful. Say, “He is God, the One. God, the Absolute. He begets not, nor was He begotten. And there is none comparable to Him.” (1-4 / Translated by ITANI). Allah said in Surah An-Nisa : O FOLLOWERS of the Gospel! Do not overstep the bounds [of truth] in your religious beliefs, and do not say of God anything but the truth. The Christ Jesus, son of Mary, was but God's Apostle - [the fulfilment of] His promise which He had conveyed unto Mary - and a soul created by Him. Believe, then, in God and His apostles, and do not say, "[God is] a trinity". Desist [from this assertion] for your own good. God is but One God; utterly remote is He, in His glory, from having a son: unto Him belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is on earth; and none is as worthy of trust as God. Never did the Christ feel too proud to be God's servant, nor do the angels who are near unto Him. I can't prove it, but I'd like to think that _Cyberbots: Fullmetal Madness_ was Capcom's answer to the alternate-universe _Mobile Suit Gundam_ anime series _Mobile Fighter G-Gundam_ , which in turn was basically _Gundam_ meets _Street Fighter_ . Coincidentally, in 1995, the same year that _CB_ was originally released in arcades, Bandai (now Bandai Namco) released a fighting-game adaptation of _Gundam Wing_ on the Super Famicom (Super NES) called _Gundam Wing: Endless Duel_ , which was very similar in gameplay and sci-fi aesthetics as _CB_ was.

Devilotte was how I found out about this game. I saw her in Super Puzzle Fighter and had to ask around a lot (this was before the internet was a widespread thing) to learn about this game. I'm glad she still shows up from time to time and Capcom hasn't totally abandoned the characters from this game.

Small touch, but you slowing down the flashing graphics for us epileptics was worth a like and a sub.

My first experience with Cyberbots was not Jin in MVC 1/2, it was Deviluke friendly firing herself with Blodia Punch at the end of her assist attack in Project X Zone. Granted, this is a DIRECT parody of Jin in MvC 1&2, but that’s besides the point.

You have some really fun video edit cuts. Really impressive stuff and I love the coverage on Cyberbots in general.

90s Capcom had some absolute gems of arcade games. Seeing them take sprites and ideas from older games to make something new is so interesting to me. I think this might even pre-date the Gundam Battle Assault games too. Also your editing and visual gags are so clean, dude.

You videos are crazy good. As someone that has never been really interested in fighting games, partly because of skill issue, it's nice to take a look at this side and see the extremely cool shit that happens in this genre. Good work!

I remember this. It was released in the mid 90s, right at a time when Capcom was experimenting a lot of things and concepts with Fighting Games. That era brought us things like this game, or Darkstalkers, or the Megaman vs fighting games.

Great stuff. Another game of fighting giants is War of the Monsters for PS2. Before my friends and I went to see Pacific Rim I played as the Japanese Robot and my friend played as not King Kong. I threw him into a building which was crushed and used the delay to run to the ocean, grab a giant Titanic boat, smash it, and throw a chunk at my friend. And then a very similar thing happened in the movie and we were both low-key freaking out.

I loved playing this game in the arcade.

This game reminds me of Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots Arena, a PS1 fighter where you can knock limbs off your opponents to upgrade your own robot. I was OBSESSED as a kid, and this game looks just as fun!

I was suddenly reminded of One Must Fall 2097. It's been a long while since I've played that.

i was just trying to figure out how to play this enough to at least beat the arcade story and got frustrated and gave up yesterday bc it felt so confusing and jarring going to it from really any other fighting game but i feel encouraged to try again and probably just watch the story cutscenes on youtube since they fly by faster than i can read them in game

I love Cyberbots, particularly because of it's strangeness. I was such a Capcom junkie back in the day that my first introduction to the game actually wasn't Jin's appearance in MVC2, but I wasn't able to get my hands on it to play until after that game so I was kinda surprised Blodia didn't play anything like Jin haha. I was a big fan of Armored Warriors so it was on my radar mostly because of that. Also worth mentioning that Super-8's pilot Devilotte has shown up in several other Capcom games, and was a secret character in Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo.

HOLY CRAP the nostalgia hit me like a truck from an Isekai anime. I used to play this a lot in my cousin's computer that had a Final Burn Alpha emulator. I wasn't always a fan of mecha stuff but Cyberbots kinda made me more open to them since I loved their mech designs so much. Guldin was always my favorite, I love my mechas big and heavy xD

Man, Tech Romancer was so awesome, especially for anyone who was a hardcore mecha-anime fan, they literally got Char from Gundam to voice a masked villain character who uses a red mech.

This game has been sitting lonely in my capcom arcade collection (steam) so long... may give it a few rounds again soon.

I was fortunate enough to buy the Japanese-exclusive Saturn conversion of _Cyberbots: Fullmetal Madness_ back in the late 2000s/early 2010s. Unfortunately, I'm not man enough to try and unlock Z-Gouki (Z-Akuma), LOL. Nice video.

Rock Em Sock Em Robots Arena did a similar thing with interchangeable legs and arms, except you could freely change parts between the different characters, bringing entire parts of their movesets with them.

Yeah, one of the reasons I got the Capcom Fighting Collection was for Cyberbots. *And* Red Earth being playable to the west. I have the entire OST for this game on my phone and laptop. Favorite tracks include: 1. Megalopolis 2. Warlock Theme 1 3. Colonial Satellite 4. Staff Roll (Yes, I'm putting the *credits* theme here!) 5. And *ESPECIALLY* the Helion Theme. Was never talked about in the video but I found it worth mentioning. The pilot of the Super 8, Devilotte was in a few other games. She was an assist in Marvel vs. Capcom 1, and an assist in Project X Zone. Capcom *REALLY* likes making her an assist, huh?

I love this game and the beatem up it came from, Armored Warriors. It's basically an Armored Core style beatem up where you can rip off parts from enemies and make builds in real time.

This would have completely consumed me as a kid. I LOVED all the robot chars and games. It's atrocious that I never saw it.
