That horror scene was brilliant. The actress who had the dummy on stage is fabulous. She wouldn't even need to say a word. All she had to do was stare you down! LOL!

Can we appreciate how good of a recovery Mary managed here? Someone calls her show out, and she not only weaves it into her performance ("There's no way you'd give me all the good lines!") but straight up adds an incredible feat that the audience might not have seen otherwise (talking at the same time).

Mary Shaw killed the old man telling the story cause he snitched.

The "Now,who's the dummy?" was very brilliant and they used it very good.Both in this scene and in the ending.Loved it!❤️ This movie is very good

Something interesting about this considering we don’t get to know for sure if Billy was alive or not, is looking at Mary herself in this scene. Even if we believe that a ventriloquist could definitely speak at the same time as her figure like this, she does sound actually a little distressed the more she argues with him. Could be acting of course but still, and then when the audience starts clapping, look at her face and the way her eyes dart around for a moment. It’s like she’s a little shaken by the moment and is taking in the fact the audience thinks it’s part of the act before composing herself. I feel like regardless of what the writers have confirmed or denied outside of the movie, if we leave it up to interpretation that would be a point in my book towards Billy being alive or possessed. To me it makes sense that her line afterwards was a sort of warning like “How dare you make me almost expose my secret”. Of course there’s good evidence supporting the other way around too and both theories make sense/are very interesting.

I know this is an old comment but had to answer. As far as I’ve seen, nope. You’d have to have some extreme skills to be able to produce two different tones of voice at the same time let alone being able to make them work at different speeds and have your mouth form two sets of words at the same time. Most really good ventriloquists just get excellent at switching their voice SO quickly that it gets as close as possible to sounding like an overlapping conversation

When Mary Shaw spoke with Billy it was like she would have a conflict with herself. Billy was really furious and Mary Shaw was trying to forget. Curious.🤔

Billy is the reason I was scared of dolls for years

The fact that Billy knew the boy’s name was Henry and that Mary knew that the disbelieving boy’s name was Michael is scary enough alone.

The way billy is arguing with Mary at the end it makes it seem so believable that billy is a real person alive in the dummy and the way he persists and gets angrier and angrier and intense and that billy doesn’t have Mary’s control all the time and that he is basically a real person in that dummy.

Dead silence is one of those movies where No matter how hard You Try to not get scared, You always sh*t Yourself at some point. This part made me a Bit Creeped Out But the Kills with the Tongue Rips. I can’t Man

Becky Kitwood another word for dummy is stupid, so she is saying he is stupid assume that she makes the doll talk. As people have emotions, she pulls off the agitated doll routine, and the doll becomes defensive saying i am real. The routine of them arguing back and forth would have made him look like a dummy(stupid). A dummy is not lifeless, in other words, they are mindless people who act without thought. He(Henry) should have thought before he had spoken. With the routine, someone who is embarrassed would feel like a dummy- lifeless. Asking him who's the dummy now is not that hard to understand at all, unless you're a dummy!

Its amazing talent for a Ventriloquist to do what they do what they can.

I was only like a minute into the video and my heart already sank with fear. 😨 plus if that thing was under MY seat i would've been scared out of my mind.

I wish there had been an extended scene or even a sequel (if it could be made by James Wan, mind you) that explains Billy. We know he's probably supernaturally influenced... but by what? Did Mary conjure a spirit to inhabit him? There's a lot of potential.

Omg how dumb are u guys the Goosebumps books came out in the 1990s and Dead Silence came out in 2007 which is after Goosebumps and Billy from Dead Silence didn't even inspire Slappy at all.

This movie haunted me all my chuldhood from watching it just once and 10 years later I search it up by memory 😂

I imagine that Billy was a bit like Pinocchio. Until that kid made him feel less like a real life thing and a puppet. So he turned into a more dapper Chucky. And every time he turned his head or did something creepy in the film it was not Mary it was Billy. Almost as if Billy is a herald for Mary’s arrival.
