This scene is more sad than scary I think. Mainly because Henry was an innocent man trying to help Jamie find out the truth about his wife's death, plus he had nothing to do with Mary Shaw's death. I felt bad for him.

Because Mary Shaw was a evil psychopath even when she was alive. She kidnapped and killed Michael Ashen not just because she insulted her(most little boys do) but because she wanted to create the perfect doll.

The movie shows us that if you don't scream when you see Mary Shaw in the first instance in a direct way, she will "force" you to do it in an "indirect" way, as she did with the detective whose tongue was torn out by Mary Shaw when he screamed after falling from a great height when the bridge he and Jamie were crossing broke, a bridge that Mary Shaw herself caused to break. In conclusion, if you don't scream in fear when you see her, she won't go away, she will find a way to make you scream and then kill you.

I remember watching this at night in my darkened bedroom. I couldn't sleep for nights. The movie Darkness Falls gave me my fear of the dark. This movie gave me my fear of darkened closets and basements.

I feel bad for Henry, he is basically the most honest character in there, and seeing him get killed made me angry, cuz his family never killed Mary Shaw but I think it was because he talked too much and was helping Jamie stop Mary Shaw

Prodably the most memorable and scariest death of this movie.

Now this was a sad death, but also a sad death in horror movies in general. While usually in movies like this and others these deaths happens to generally unlikable characters, we really didn’t wanted to see this good old fella die, and his final moments when he was trapped exploits that fear in full measure.

One of my favorite horrors from the early 2000s. Great atmosphere, an old fashioned spooky vibe, that amazing abandoned theater by the water, and a super villain. I think movie audiences heard this was from the guys who made Saw and their expectations were skewed ... they wanted a sadistic crime story with contraptions/traps and such. But it's a solid thriller with style and chills. I just wish they made a better rhyme for Mary; Shaw and dolls don't rhyme, LOL.

You'd think an old man has seen it all and wouldn't be fazed by anything.

I saw this movie when I was in elementary school and it scared the shit out of me and this scene still gives me the fucking creeps and I’m 21 now

what happen if you just close your eyes and stay calm? Maybe taking nap?

He has the scariest death in the movie tho 😭

The funny thing is the movie implies she can only take your tongue if you scream. So if our old man here who knows exactly what he's dealing with would have simply looked at her she would just be looking awkwardly back. Wonder if that ever happened 'Damn didn't fool him now I gotta leave.'

No, I can imagine that Mary naturally has the vocal range to mimic her voice/earlier in the movie I believe she demonstrated the ability to create illusions.

That's why you should never put a creepy doll inside your house even in different kind of scenarios.

I will... NEVER forget the first time I saw her creepy tongue amalgam and noticed it was as long and snaking as it was because of how many tongues were attached to it.

At the end, when Henry's tongue got rip I was about to cry cuz when Henry forgot about the man at the wheel chair and the stupid lady. It went terrible he can't do it alone so he gave up, don't give up guys if this happen to u, SCREEM CUZ UR NOT SAFE! U know that, the old man at the wheel chair it was such a good act about not being a doll, I didn't know it was him OMG AND THE LADY

Just maybe if you turn around like you just didn't see her that's called the baby mother effect in just walk away slowly?
