For episode four of Skate Tales, Madars hightails it to Ethiopia to meet the skate crew building a scene from scratch in one of the world’s oldest countries.
The story of Ethiopia Skate is as real as it gets: from a parking lot in Addis Ababa, Henok Yetbarek, Michael Baheru, Ruel Desta, Babure ‘Babu G’ Teferi, Yeabkal Abraham and Yared Gobezie started a skate movement which would snowball with the help of two American skaters, JT Rhoades and Sean Stromsoe.
Within 3 years they would link up with Make Life Skate Life to build Ethiopia’s first free skatepark in the capital, and a year later they would double down on their success by building a second in Awassa.
Nowadays Ethiopia Skate has 150 skaters enlisted from around the country, and has registered as a non- profit in the USA meaning they can accept tax- deductible donations to keep their skatehouse open, build more terrain and, as Sean tells Madars ‘create more opportunity through skateboarding’.
Madars came by to build and inspire, listen and learn in a beautiful one from the Skate Tales storybook.

When we donate to a big aid company like unicef they dont do this and have much video evidence, they might give them food but they won't build them something that helps them have fun like a skatepark food is perishable memories from a skatepark will last forever, why don't you start a aid company called Red bull aid or something @ red bull, you would make waaay more than unicef and you could build these parks all over the world with the communities and stuff

JCT takes years for companies to get to where they are and start making boards and most of the time companies don’t even press their boards themselves. your acting like a press is the only thing they need to start making boards but it’s never that simple. and plus you really think poor people can afford to do that?
skateboarding is freedom
I am Ethiopian and appreciate my brothers for showing these people our culture and welcoming nature. This video made me smile.
I honestly wish this was over an hour long. I loved every second of this. More more more please :) great job to all those involved. Really want to go to Ethiopia now, the people there seem awesome.

This is my favourite series on youtube right now, cant believe its not getting more views. the wholesome skateboard stories are awesome and ya boy Madars is a great host, please don't stop at 6 episodes haha
This is amazing!! I was in Ethiopia a couple months ago visiting the country and was searching around for the skate scene, unfortunately I didn’t have time to go to the park. But I’m happy to see this!
That spongy injera bread is the best. One of my favorite foods. Staple of Ethiopia
Madars is the perfect dude for this, he seems so genuinely interested in hearing people's stories and sharing a passion for skating. Really top notch series and I wish more skaters and non-skaters would watch it.

I can almost guarantee that their equipment is heavily worn since they share amongst each other. Cant count how many times ive heard kids here in the US complain how they need better equipment in order to (insert excuseeeeeeeee)... its nots the shoes sweetheart. Love seeing these kids own it. All Skateboard brands should donate them dozen of boards so they dont have to skate shitty decks

Why?

I think helping them set up a small board press to make their own decks would be better... We know how flooding foreign markets with our products works out normally...

@@themoog924 I get a feeling you're not a charitable person, besides he just said why? lol. And before you come up with a stupid response, its donating, they're not obligated to give anything if they don't want to. But if they do, then those kids won't have to ride beat up skateboards.

@@macdee6040 Why do certain Westerners feel they have a duty to spread their culture all over the globe? Can't we just let other people do their own thing and develop in their own way? Also charity tends to breed dependence, so I always think long and hard about who I help out.

There is a crazy crew in Madagascar and the level is fucking good (given the infrastructures, and the lack of material and the price too expensive, it just blows my mind how good the level is). Please look out for Ariar Skateboarding (facebook and youtube) and show you support :)
